Attention Upper East Siders — A 'Gossip Girl' Reboot Might Be Happening

Listen up, Upper East Siders! Gossip Girl might be making a comeback to spread all the latest gossip on the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite.

The CW is apparently currently in “discussion” about rebooting the popular late 2000s drama. According to TV Line, CW President Mark Pedowitz was asked about a reboot of the show during the CW’s portion of the TV Critics’ Association press tour on Thursday, and told reporters: “There’s a discussion, but I don’t know if we’re there yet.”

“I don't know what it would be,” Pedowitz said, adding that it all depends on the involvement of the original executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

“‘Cause you don’t want to do anything without them,” Pedowitz added.

While it isn’t a final decision yet and details are few, there’s always been a slight possibility of the show coming back.

At 2016’s ATX TV Festival, Schwartz and Savage said they hadn’t really thought about a reboot, but Schwartz wondered what a modern day Gossip Girl would look like.

Schwartz acknowledged that “the internet has changed” telling E! News, “The world has become Gossip Girl now. ... Now literally everyone is Gossip Girl.”

And given that the internet has changed even more so since then, with so many social media influencers, a Gossip Girl reboot actually makes a lot of sense.

Even some of the cast members of the show have never ruled out a reboot.

According to Glamour Magazine, Blake Lively, who played Serena Van der Woodsen, told Variety in 2017, “I don’t know. Why not? It sort of all depends. Would I do seven years of the show? No, because it’s hard work and I’ve got my babies, and I don't want to be away from them that much. But I've just learned in life you never say never.”

Leighton Meester, who played the perfect Blair Waldorf, told Vanity Fair, “If everyone was into it and if the timing was right, you know?...I don’t want to say, ‘No, never …’”

So maybe Penn Badgley might want to make some adjustments to his calendar from his latest Netflix show You, where he plays the terrifying social media stalker Joe Goldberg.

We’ll be waiting, though, CW.

XOXO.
