Cardi B is originally from New York City, and it looks like she’s decided to show some love to her hometown this chilly season. According to AP News, Cardi handed out free winter coats near Marlboro houses in Brooklyn to help residents, especially children, combat the cold weather.
The rapper is originally from the Bronx, not Brooklyn, but she also grew up in public housing, Fox 5 NY reports, so the event must have been especially poignant for her.
Cardi wanted the event to be all about the children, which could be an effect of the recent birth of her daughter Kulture with Offset. Many kids who seemed to be fans of Cardi were present, as evidenced in a video shared by reporter Stacey Delikat.

Unfortunately, Fox 5 NY reports that Cardi was three hours late to the event, meaning that the people who showed up to receive coats were left to stand shivering in the cold in the meantime. As Delikat’s video shows, the children grew restless, asking where Cardi was until she showed up.
No official comment was made by Cardi about her lateness (though late or not, Cardi's charitable gesture does not go unnoticed), but she did say that she wants to set an example for kids in the future.
“It's important because we got to set an example for the kids in the future,” she said. "Sometimes people think we just be doing the messed up things but we really care for our kids, our community.”
