The 'Pet Sematary' Trailer Is Filled With Creepy Kids & A Demonic Undead Cat

It’s that time of year again, when horror movie trailers run rampant and it’s impossible to watch even prime-time TV without being freaked out by something in the commercial break.

Next up in the world of horrific trailers is Pet Sematary, a remake adaptation of Stephen King’s horror novel of the same name. The trailer shows a young family moving into a new house in rural Maine, and patriarch Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke) can immediately tell that something is off.

The rest of the trailer follows John Lithgow as “unusual neighbor" Jud Crandall telling Dr. Creed about the strange things afoot in the forest in the back of the property. “It was a myth,” Crandall says. “Kids used to dare each other to go into the woods at night.”

We then see those kids playing an ominous rhythm on drums and marching in hyper-realistic animal masks. Combined with a matted, evil-looking cat and some gross and misplaced dirty feet, the scene is set for some otherworldly, zombified madness. “Sometimes dead is better,” Crandall says. (That's fair; I now don't want to see a child OR a cat for at least another week.)

Last fall, another one of Stephen King’s previously adapted novels, It, became a box office smash. Its sequel, It: Chapter Two is set for theaters in September 2019. With Pet Sematary’s release date set for April of the same year, it looks like 2019 is going to be filled with lots of mind-bending, otherworldly thrills and chills.

Though real life has proven itself to be scary enough lately, sometimes it feels good to step into a dark world where things can always be worse. Check out the trailer for Pet Sematary below:
