In the wake of rapper Mac Miller’s death this past Friday, a lot of attention has been focused on his most recent ex-girlfriend, Ariana Grande.

After it was announced that the 26-year-old had died from an apparent drug overdose, Ariana was attacked by online trolls who were blaming her for his death, which we now know couldn’t be further from the truth. Loyal supporters of Ariana refused to believe the accusations, and the "No Tears Left to Cry" singer was forced to disable her Instagram comments as a result of the backlash.

On Monday, one of Mac Miller’s closest friends, Shane Powers, took to his podcast The Shane Show to prove just how involved Ariana Grande was in keeping Mac healthy during their relationship. According to Shane, Ariana was an immense help in keeping the rapper sober.

“She was incredible when he was first sobering up. She was a f–king G to him … There could not have been anybody more supportive of him being sober than Ariana. I saw that. I was around it,” Shane Powers said. He also added that Ariana was “an unbelievably stabilizing force in [Miller’s] life, and she was deeply helpful and effective in keeping Mac sober and helping him get sober, and she was all about him being healthy, period, in this area of his life.”

So it is completely untrue and unnecessary to accuse Ariana of being a source for Mac’s struggles or a cause of his overdose, when she was actually incredibly supportive of his sobriety. According to Mac's friend Shane there was no one “in his life more ready to go to the wall for him when it came to him being sober” than Ariana.

Though Ariana hasn’t spoken publicly about Mac’s death, she did share a sweet photo of him on her Instagram on Saturday.

Fans had previously criticized her for leaving the relationship, and she responded by saying “How absurd that you minimize female self-respect and self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship because he wrote an album about them.” She referenced how she “cared for him and tried to support his sobriety and prayed for his balance for years,” but caring for him when it took such a toll on her was not something she could continue to do.

Shane Power’s comments have helped to shed some light on the nature of Ariana and Mac’s previous relationship, and will hopefully help critics to see that they should just leave Ariana alone.
