First Lady Melania Trump will be making another visit to child migrant facilities in the next coming days, her spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham confirmed to CNN.
“Yes, Mrs. Trump plans to visit additional facilities sometime this week,” Grisham said when asked if another trip would take place.
It is not known where the first lady plans on going for this trip, but it is likely she will get a first-hand look at immigration processing facility, as had been her plan when she visited McAllen, Texas last week before having to leave due to the flooding.
Mrs. Trump’s spokeswoman said that the first lady “wants to continue to check on children.”
“The first lady is moved by what she is hearing, and what she saw in Texas, and she wants to again see and listen for herself what is happening in these places,” Grisham added.
Last Thursday, the first lady spent an hour touring the Upbring New Hope Children's Shelter in McAllen, a center that cares for unaccompanied children who have entered the United States illegally and are waiting to be placed with family or with a home, CNN reports.
Mrs. Trump visited with approximately 55 children at the facility, and walked into classrooms as the children were having lessons.
But her trip was overshadowed by the jacket she wore on the trip, The Huffington Postreports. The $39 Zara jacket had the words “I really don’t care. Do u?” printed on the back in bright, bold print.
She wore the jacket on her trip from and to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, but did not wear it while in Texas.
The jacket sparked quite a debate about the first lady being tone deaf and insensitive for wearing such a jacket while going to visit the child migrant facilities, but the first lady’s spokeswoman said it was simply a jacket.
“I’d hope you guys would want to cover her visit with children today. It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn’t going to choose to focus on her wardrobe. (Much like her high heels last year),” Grisham told HuffPost.
However, President Donald Trump tweeted a different story as to the meaning behind the jacket.
“‘I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?’ written on the back of Melania's jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!” Trump wrote on Twitter.
Since the implementation of the zero tolerance policy, nearly 2,000 immigrant children had been separated from their families. However, Trump signed an executive order last Wednesday to “stop separating undocumented immigrant parents and their children and instead detain them together.”
