Ariana Grande Addressed Her 'Toxic' Relationship With Ex Mac Miller: 'I Am Not a Babysitter or a Mother'

Two weeks ago, Ariana Grande confirmed earlier reports that she and her boyfriend of nearly two years, Mac Miller, had split. Grande announced the news in an Instagram story, and the way she talked about Miller implied that the breakup was amicable. "I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form," she wrote, also telling Miller, "I can’t wait to know you and support you forever and I’m so proud of you!!"

Since then, Miller has been arrested on DUI and hit-and-run charges, and Grande has reportedly moved on to Saturday Night Live's Pete Davidson. But when a Twitter user implied these two things were connected — and that Miller's mistakes were Grande's fault — she was quick to tell him how wrong he was.

The initial tweet stated, "Mac Miller totalling [sic] his G wagon and getting a DUI after Ariana Grande dumped him for another dude after he poured his heart out on a ten song album to her called the divine feminine is just the most heartbreaking thing happening in Hollywood."

Grande replied with a screenshot of a note she wrote, beginning with, "how absurd that you minimize female self-respect and self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship because he wrote an album about them, which btw isn't the case (just Cinderella is ab me)."

She continued, "I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be. I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming/blaming women for a man's inability to keep his shit together is a very major problem. Let's please stop doing that. of course I didn't share about how hard or scary it was while it was happening but it was."

Grande added that she will continue to pray that Miller "figures it all out," and that "any other woman in this position does as well."

Her tweet — which was posted Wednesday morning — has since garnered more than 160,000 likes. The person who issued the initial tweet responded by apologizing, and of course, Grande accepted.

Hopefully, both Miller and Grande are taking care of themselves — together or not.
