Ariana Grande released the music video for her new single “No Tears Left to Cry” just last week, and everyone (including us at HC!) have been raving about the inspirational lyrics and awesome visual concepts, with everything from Ariana taking off a mask of her own face to dangling off a fire escape with one hand.
Another of these concepts, though, was Ariana trying to walk in a room that’s spinning, so the ceiling eventually becomes the floor. While it’s mesmerizing to watch (and meaningful, as director Dave Meyers explained in the behind-the-scenes video), it’s also causing some fans to jokingly reminisce about a certain song from High School Musical 3: Senior Year.
“Scream,” aka the “Bet On It” of High School Musical 3, is an absolute classic (remember how Zac Efron injured his wrist while filming it and we were all so worried for him?), and a great character moment for Troy Bolton. He even rips down the basketball poster of himself in a particularly dramatic move, and I remember 9-year-old me was #shocked. Fans couldn’t help but draw parallels between the spinning East High hallway in “Scream” and Ariana’s own rotating room, causing one fan, Tumblr user snaacks, to combine the two into one epic video.
It’s almost surprising how well the two go together (even though, of course, “No Tears Left to Cry” is a bit more optimistic), and I hope Ariana and/or Zac see it and get a laugh out of it. And if this is making you nostalgic for the Wildcat days, mark your calendars, because High School Musical 3: Senior Year will join its two predecessors on Netflix on May 1!
