Kanye West's return to Twitter certainly hasn't been uneventful — for both the rapper himself, and the President of the United States.
Kanye went beyond his normal motivational quips in a series of tweets on Wednesday. The rapper touched on topics like his Yeezy apparel company, the firing of his former manager Scooter Braun, the sunken place, and eventually, his love for Trump (and Hillary Clinton).
You don't have to agree with trump but the mob can't make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don't agree with everything anyone does. That's what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.

If your friend jumps off the bridge you don't have to do the same. Ye being Ye is a fight for you to be you. For people In my life the idea of Trump is pretty much a 50 50 split but I don't tell a Hillary supporter not to support Hillary
I love Hillary too.— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) April 25, 2018
This seemingly didn't fit well with his wife, Kim Kardashian. Kanye tweeted to clarify he doesn't fully agree with anyone (including Trump) but himself.
my wife just called me and she wanted me to make this clear to everyone. I don't agree with everything Trump does. I don't agree 100% with anyone but myself.
— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) April 25, 2018
Kim later chimed in to address her differing views on Trump, while also defending Kanye against claims from media outlets that his mental health is suffering.
Yesterday it was announced that Kanye had parted ways with some business people and media outlets made this about Kanye’s mental health. Rather than just a simple business decision. So I’m glad he tweeted about the state of his company and all of the exciting things happening
— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) April 25, 2018
He’s a free thinker, is that not allowed in America? Because some of his ideas differ from yours you have to throw in the mental health card? That’s just not fair. He’s actually out of the sunken place when he’s being himself which is very expressive
— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) April 25, 2018
Now when he spoke out about Trump... Most people (including myself) have very different feelings & opinions about this. But this is HIS opinion. I believe in people being able to have their own opinions, even if really different from mine
He never said he agrees with his politics— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) April 25, 2018
Kanye will never run in the race of popular opinion and we know that and that’s why I love him and respect him and in a few years when someone else says the same exact thing but they aren’t labeled the way he is and you will all praise them! Kanye is years ahead of his time
— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) April 25, 2018
Kanye's Trump tweets didn't stop after a call from Kim, though. He later posted a photo in a "Make America Great Again" hat, and a separate one of a Trump-signed hat.

And then... the president replied. TWICE.
Thank you Kanye, very cool! https://t.co/vRIC87M21X
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 25, 2018
MAGA! https://t.co/jFf5ONASlv

Kanye quickly became a trending topic on Twitter, but while Trump supporters were happy to see someone of Kanye's prominence praise the president, others weren't.

Far too many people don't have the luxury of closing their eyes and ears. They feel it in their lives and can't act like what they see and know doesn't exist.

They see the statistics about black applications for real estate or loans or employment being turned away because their name was Jamal and not James

I love that great, brilliant artists have the power to imagine a better future. But artists can't be blind to the truth.
— John Legend (@johnlegend) April 25, 2018
The defining trait of Trump's campaign and political profile was his embrace of white supremacy. He made it clear every time he spoke. Some serious cognitive dissonance to ignore that for the other x% you might find appealing. I guess I agree with >1% of anyone's thoughts though

Please, please, please let me never turn into a person who needs publicity so badly that I endorse racism, misogyny, homophobia, corruption and self-loathing.

Chance The Rapper, on the other hand, jumped to Kanye's defense.
Talked to him two days ago. He’s in a great space and not affected by folk tryna question his mental or physical health. Same Ye from the Vmas, same Ye from the telethon. https://t.co/2zY3KpllV2

— Chance The Rapper (@chancetherapper) April 25, 2018
After tweeting that black people don't have to be democrats, Chance took a brief break before returning with two more tweets.
Next President gon be independent
