Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada, said on Tuesday that the motive for the Monday van attack has yet to be found, but investigators “have no reason to suspect that there is any national security element to this attack,” according to ABC News.
ABC News reported that the prime minister told reporters, “Obviously, all Canadians continue and will continue to have questions about why this happened, what could possibly be the motives behind it. As was indicated last night by our public security minister, at this time we have no reason to suspect that there is any national security element to this attack, but obviously the investigations continue.”

Meanwhile, the suspect, Alek Minassian, will be held on 10 counts of first-degree murder because of the 10 individuals that died. The Washington Post said that Minassian is facing 13 counts of attempted murder for those injured.
Minassian’s next hearing will be on May 10th, and the judge ordered that he have no contact with the victims or their families, The Post reported.
Toronto City News detailed the series of event that led to Minassian’s arrest. After driving his van down the sidewalk, Minassian mimicked the police throughout the standoff leading to his arrest.
