With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding set to take place on May 19, many people are *dying* to find out what the bride-to-be will wear on the big day. Since the couple announced their engagement, everyone has been buzzing about what her dress could look like, and while the dress is heavily under wraps, new details (and rumors) have emerged since then. So what's the sitch? Here's everything we know about the mysterious gown so far.
Who will design the dress?
Big names such as Ralph & Russo, Alexander McQueen, Erdem or Burberry have been rumored to design Markle's gown, according to Harper’s Bazaar. Why these designers? There are a few breadcrumbs that have been dropped!
For example, Markle wore a Ralph & Russo dress in her engagement photos. Erdem is a British fashion house run by Canadian-born designer Erdem Moralıoğlu, and according to PEOPLE, Erdem has made some changes to its PR team, suggesting that there might be a big announcement coming up in the future. Aside from that, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are both fans of the brand. Given that Markle now lives in the UK after living in Canada while filming Suits, Erdem wouldn’t be a surprising choice. Markle is also a fan of Burberry, Vanity Fair reports, and Kate Middleton wore an Alexander McQueen design for her wedding.
Who won’t be designing the dress?
Victoria Beckham (sorry, Posh fans!). Rumors suggested that Beckham might be designing the dress, but Beckham set the record straight, telling The Guardianthat Markle didn’t ask her to design the dress. “She looked absolutely beautiful in my jumper. I’m sure it will be a really fun wedding. But no, she hasn’t asked me to do the dress,” says Beckham.
What will the dress look like?
Though Markle chose a less traditional, semi-sheer dress for her engagement photos, InStylereports that people can expect her wedding dress to be pretty traditional.
“I think she might surprise us with something quite traditional, very beautiful, maybe even a little bit conservative. And I think that when you’re looking at Windsor Castle as the backdrop, that’s exactly the right note to be hitting,” Katie Nicholl, author of Harry: Life, Loss and Love, tells InStyle.
Vanity Fair reports that her dress for the ceremony will be a traditional, classy style with a bit of an edge – but it’s also important for the dress to be timeless. Her dress for the reception will be less restrictive. Since Markle is a United States native being born and raised in Los Angeles, people suspect her wedding will have an American twist.
How many dresses will she wear?
She’ll have two custom-made dresses: one for the ceremony and one for the reception, according to Vanity Fair. A girl's gotta have options!
What tiara will she wear?
Not the same one that Kate Middleton wore at her wedding in 2011, explains Harper's Bazaar. According to PEOPLE, the Cartier Halo tiara worn by Kate Middleton will be displayed at the National Gallery of Australia during the Royal Wedding. Leslie Field, the author of The Queen’s Jewels: The Personal Collection of Elizabeth II, told PEOPLE that Markle will probably opt for something less traditional.
