In Case 2018 Wasn't Terrifying Enough, Ohio's Got 'Zombie' Raccoons To Deal With

CBS News reported on “zombie-like” raccoons spotted in northeast Ohio that are currently under police investigation. There have been over a dozen reports from citizens over the last 3 weeks about raccoons acting strangely during the day. These nocturnal animals are not usually out during the day, which makes their behavior even stranger.

Robert Coggeshall, an Ohio photographer, told CBS about his experience with the raccoons. The raccoon “would stand up on his hind legs, which I've never seen a raccoon do before, and he would show his teeth and then he would fall over backward and go into almost a comatose condition,” he said.

The police came to euthanize that raccoon and 14 other ones reported to Ohio police, according to CBS. The Ohio Department of natural Resources suspects that the raccoons have been suffering from a viral disease, distemper, that makes them sick and causes them to lose any fear of humans.

Vice noted the similarities between the viral disease the raccoons are facing and traditional theories about zombies. Both viruses are incurable and attack the brain, causing hysteria, with little warning. Hopefully, we wont end up in an episode of The Walking Dead featuring these creepy creatures.
