House Judiciary Committee Member Steps Down Amidst Sexual Harassment Investigation
Democratic representative John Conyers has stepped down from his position as member of the House Judiciary Committee after sexual harassment allegations made against him led to a congressional investigation, CNN says.
"After careful consideration and in light of the attention drawn by recent allegations made against me, I have notified the Democratic Leader of my request to step aside...during the investigation of these matters," Conyers said in a statement. "I deny these allegations, many of which were raised by documents reportedly paid for by a partisan alt-right blogger."
Several former staffers accused Conyers of various workplace abuses. The allegations came about from a BuzzFeed News report saying that documents from right-wing blogger Mike Cernovich included claims that Conyers requested sexual favors from former aides.
I am grateful to my colleagues who have called for due process before weighing judgment. I would urge them to continue to do so for any Member accused of wrongdoing. Basic fairness requires no less.

Las Vegas Survivor Dies in a Hit-and-Run
The Huffington Post reports that a survivor of the Las Vegas massacre was killed in a hit-and-run crash earlier this month. 52-year-old Roy McClellan was in southern Nevada the day he died, walking along a roadway in Pahrump. He was on Highway 160 when he was hit by a Chevrolet Camaro.
At the Oct. 1 shooting at a Las Vegas music festival, McClellan reportedly helped transport victims to the hospital and was later in therapy to deal with what he had witnessed. "I don't understand why he wasn't taken at the shooting, but a month later he was taken this way," said his wife Denise McClellan.
This marks the fourth known death of a Las Vegas survivor. Shortly after the deadly shooting, Dennis and Lorraine Carver were killed in a car crash outside their home on Oct. 16, while Kymberley Suchomel died in her sleep a week after the shooting.
Roy McClellan, 52, was killed Nov. 17 when he was hit by a car in Pahrump, about 60 miles west of Las Vegas. https://t.co/PDjgVglI27
