Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

A Cub Scout Is Asked to Leave Troop After Asking a Legislator About Gun Control

11-year-old Ames Mayfield was reportedly kicked out of his Cub Scout pack after asking a Colorado state senator why she wouldn't support "common-sense gun laws,"The New YorkTimes says. When Mayfield's troop met with Republican Sen. Vicki Marble in Broomsfield, Colo., his mother Lori Mayfield recorded him asking Marble about her beliefs on guns.

"I was shocked that you co-sponsored a bill to allow domestic violence offenders to continue to own a gun," Mayfield told Marble. "Why on earth would you want somebody who beats their wife to have access to a gun?"

Although Marble answered the question by saying that less crime would happen if a society had more guns, Mayfield's mother was later asked to meet with an overseer of several of the area's Cub Scout packs. She was told that her son bringing up gun control upset den leaders because the topic was "too politically charged," and that he wasn't welcomed back to the group. Mayfield has found a new pack for her son to join, but the incident has caused a stir within Colorado's Boy Scout community

Japan Braces Itself for Massive Typhoon

Japan is facing threats of major flooding and powerful winds as Typhoon Lan approaches landfall Sunday night into Monday morning. Heading toward the country's southern coast, the Category 4 typhoon is already producing winds of 134 miles per hour and has caused monstrous waves in South Korea. The Independent reports that the storm has already killed two people and that thousands were asked to evacuate before landfall, when Lan is expected to weaken to a Category 2 or 3 storm. It's unknown how the weather will affect the results of the country's election day.

Hershey's Experiments With Something New

Instagram user thejunkfoodaisle reports that Hershey's will soon bring a new kind of candy bar to supermarket shelves. Instead of working with the classic chocolate flavor, the company will reportedly try out a golden-colored bar with "caramelized creme." Peanuts and pretzels will also be featured in the new treat, so it's safe to say that this bar will likely satisfy any odd cravings you may experience. The bar is rumored to start appearing in stores this December.

What to look out for...

Today is National Boston Cream Pie Day, which sounds like an incredible excuse to indulge in dessert. Celebrate by tracking down an actual Boston cream pie near you, or just do the lazy thing and stop by Dunkin Donuts for a Boston cream donut.
