Jane's Love Life Is as Complicated as Ever in the 'Jane the Virgin' Season 4 Premiere

The last three seasons of Jane the Virgin have done an incredible job of breaking my heart and then putting it back together, only to shatter it into a million pieces again…and again and again. The emotional roller coaster ride is also never-ending for the show's leading lady, Jane (the not-so-virgin anymore). As the show begins a new season, one thing definitely hasn't changed: Jane's love life is as complicated as ever. The Season 4 premiere begged the question: Will Jane ever 100 percent understand her feelings?

Ah, yes. Chapter 65 of Jane's story began at her parent's wedding, where she planned to tell Rafael she still has feelings for him, but was interrupted by a love letter from her late husband, Michael, which was found and returned to her by her first love, Adam. Basically, Jane completely forgot about her undeniable love for Rafael as soon as she set eyes on Adam, Jane the Virgin's newest character, played by Tyler Posey. I mean, can you blame her?

And so began another love story… Adam and Jane were engaged when she was 19. Their reunion nine years later must've been a work of fate, right? At least Jane thought so…for about five minutes. In typical Jane fashion, she couldn't make up her mind about the men in her love life, torn between admitting her feelings for Rafael and exploring a new romance with Adam. Is anyone else having flashbacks to Season 1 Jane, when her heart was with both Michael and Rafael?

I was hopeful that the love triangles ended with her marriage to Michael in Season 2. Even after his tragic death, I was confident she wouldn't end up back with Rafael. They were doing such a great job at co-parenting and being friends! Then this new guy comes along, and by Jane's standards (and mine), he's perfect. So why can't she make up her mind?

While Adam and I thought the stars were aligning for these two once-forbidden lovers, Jane could only see one face in the sky: Rafael's. My question is: If Jane was so torn up about Rafael, why would she even go on a date with Adam? Even more so, how could she just bolt in the middle of a seemingly perfect date as soon as her baby daddy came to mind? And when she learned Rafael wasn't interested, she ran right back to Adam. The indecisiveness is overwhelming, but Adam is being so understanding about it. Lock this guy down while you can, Jane!

Jane's constant internal struggle has a lot to do with her overthinking. I get that she's a planner, but hasn't she learned by now that you can't plan love? Maybe she's putting too much pressure on having that telenovela love she grew up fantasizing about. Or her mommy instincts are confusing her heart. Plus, her family is unconventional, to say the least. I'm sure the widow thing doesn't help either. Jane tends to play it safe in love. Michael was safe for her. And now so is Rafael.

Sure, Rafael is Mateo's father, but if it didn't work the first few times, what makes Jane think something would be different this time around? As hot as Rafael is, he's old news. I'm ready for Adam to sweep Jane off her feet and finally end her forever conflicted feelings.

I'd personally love to see more of spontaneous skinny-dipping Jane, rather than play-it-safe mommy Jane who's worried about who she feels 100 percent about. This potential fling may be just the thing to stop her from being so damn cautious all the time. A little less conversation, a little more action, please.
