Remember last year when Barbie tried to be more inclusive by creating a dolls with different skin colors and body shapes? It was a sweet attempt, but we knew the children's toy industry could do a lot better. Now in 2017, we're seeing more awareness that there is no one standard of how a woman should look (40 shades of Fenty Beauty foundation, anyone?), and the new Vitiligo doll designed by Kay Black is spreading this message to children everywhere.
According to Refinery29, the dolls are inspired by model Winnie Harlow, who has been outspoken on raising awareness for the disease. Talk about an awesome step forward for diverse representation, because realistic features are beautiful. More of this please.
