Disney World Kept the Magic Alive During Hurricane Irma Because It's Disney World

Not even Hurricane Irma can put a damper on Disney magic. Although Walt Disney World in Orlando shut down for two consecutive days (Sept. 10 and 11) for the first time in its 46-year history, the House of Mouse still tried to make sure their resort guests enjoyed their vacation, Cosmopolitan reports. With all the parks closed, guests staying at Disney World resorts didn't get to do everything they'd planned to, but Disney still wanted to give them the best vacation possible, despite the hurricane that was raging through Florida.

Thanks to a few (or an entire cast of) familiar faces like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Chip and Dale, Pluto and Goofy and a host of fun activities, kids have stayed entertained while waiting out the storm.

From Donald helping out at the front desk, to coloring with Lilo, to a puppy parade (Disney + puppies = dream combination), the cast members at Disney World resorts have been hard at work to live up to the Disney standard of family vacations.

Slashed prices on food didn’t hurt either.

And it seems like there was plenty of entertainment for parents, too.

Disney World's parks—with the exception of water parks—reopened today with “Extra Magic Hours” for guests “who weathered the storm with us,” according to the website.

Although Disney World still has some cleaning up to do, the theme park's reputation for delivering a magical family vacation is still glass-slipper clean.
