As excited as I get for a new school year, the first day is always a little nerve-wracking. Will I have a bad teacher? Will that cute guy from my dorm be in any of my classes? Needless to say, a day filled with the unknown (and the mourning of summer) usually leads to some nerves and anxiety. While heading to his first day of school at Thomas's Battersea in London, Prince George basically summed up all of those feelings in the short walk from the car to the building.
Before showing up to school with dad Prince William at his side, four-year-old George posed with him for an inevitable "first day" pic at Kensington Palace, PEOPLE says. The shot shows George looking excited and happy, which I think is how we all try to look when we're taking these photos for our moms.

Things got a little more serious for George when he and William arrived at Thomas's Battersea. Maybe it was the photographers there or the absence of pregnant mom Kate Middleton (who's suffering from intense morning sickness), but George definitely wasn't looking so thrilled anymore.
The father-son duo was welcomed by the head of Thomas's lower school, Helen Haslem. Although George adorably shook Haslem's hand, he kept a firm hold on William's hand. Tbh, I think we all have those days in college which we wished we had a parent around to hold our hand.
Despite George looking super nervous, William later said that the drop-off ran smoothly. At an event at Kensington Palace, he shared, "It went well. There was one other parent who had more of an issue with their children, so I was quite pleased I wasn't the one."
Don't worry, George. If there's anything education has taught me, it's that the first day is always the toughest. Hang in there!
