You might want to grab some tissues for this one—Meghan Markle finally spilled the beans about her relationship with Prince Harry, and it's all too sweet. Vanity Fair's October cover star reflected on the past year with the heartthrob and the good, the bad and the ugly that comes with dating a royal.
Harry and Meghan have been rather private about their relationship, which is no surprise considering the amount of bad press and negative comments Markle received after the news of their love went public. Things got so ugly that Kensington Palace released a statement on Harry's behalf in Nov. 2016 addressing the harassment Meghan and her family had endured.
Though the media made things difficult for the Suits star and her family, she handled it like a pro and continues to do so. "I can tell you that at the end of the day I think it’s really simple,” she told Vanity Fair. “We’re two people who are really happy and in love. We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception. Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”
Meghan said the media is "noise" to her and she's only concerned about the people she's close to. But when it does get tough, she knows who she can lean on. “It has its challenges, and it comes in waves—some days it can feel more challenging than others,” she said. “And right out of the gate it was surprising the way things changed. But I still have this support system all around me, and, of course, my boyfriend’s support.” How cute is that? What a great way to handle the negativity.
If you were waiting for this interview to get even cuter, Meghan told the mag that her relationship with Harry is still going strong. “We’re a couple,” she said. “We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.” Aww! So do I.
