On Tuesday, President Trump and first lady Melania Trump flew into Texas to check on disaster relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey. And while that's all well and good, the Internet is taking issue with FLOTUS's shoe choice, which wasn't exactly the most practical option for someone who is heading to help out with an emergency that has caused massive amounts of flooding and devastation.
The president and first lady were photographed leaving the White House and boarding Air Force One. For the occasion, Melania opted for all black, topped off with a bomber jacket and... stilettos.
While the outfit wasn't anything out of the ordinary for FLOTUS, some people felt it was a bit of an out-of-touch and cringe-y choice.
And here we have Melania Trump modeling what NOT to wear to a hurricane: 5-inch stilettos.

Not an expert, but are stiletto heels the best footwear for a disaster zone? https://t.co/pkALTnKvz0

According to CNN's Kate Bennett, the first lady's communication director later responded to the controversy with a statement, saying, "It's sad that we have an active and ongoing natural disaster in Texas, and people are worried about her shoes." In fairness, Melania did change into sneakers upon actually landing in Texas - though it's still unclear why the heels were necessary in the first place.
