I’m all for pairing together classic actresses to play relatives, and the trio of Green sisters on Friends was a prime example of powerhouse actresses being onscreen family. My only regret is that we never got to see Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel with both Christina Applegate’s Amy and Reese Witherspoon’s Jill at the same time. Although a full sister reunion may not ever happen, we’ll soon see Aniston and Witherspoon together soon. According to HelloGiggles, the two actresses are working together on a new TV series.
Aniston and Witherspoon will star in an untitled show about morning shows and New York media. They will also executive produce the show alongside others, including Harry Potter screenwriter Steve Kloves. The Hollywood Reporter states that the show will likely market itself to HBO and Netflix, and given the talent attached to it, it ought to end up on a huge network.
The series would be Aniston’s first regular TV role since Friends ended in 2004, although she once made a guest appearance on Friends costar Courteney Cox’s show Cougar Town. In a Jan. 2017 interview with Variety, she talked about being ready to return to TV. “I’ve thought about it a lot,” she said. “That’s where the work is. That’s where the quality is. At this point in my career, I want to be part of wonderful stories, exciting characters and also just having a good time.”
Having scored an Emmy nomination for her recent role on Big Little Lies, Witherspoon likely doesn’t mind a return to TV either. I’ll be keeping an eye on this news like a hawk—after all, who doesn’t want these Green sisters on their TV?
