Given the current political climate, it’s easy to imagine what might have been if Hillary Clinton emerged victorious from the 2016 presidential election season. Although most of us have moved past election results and are focused on making the best of what’s happening nationally, news junkies and nasty women everywhere will soon have the chance to view the 2016 election from Clinton’s perspective. The Washington Post reports that Clinton will call her latest memoir, which is due out this fall, What Happened.
“In the past, for reasons I try to explain, I’ve often felt I had to be careful in public, like I was up on a wire without a net,” Clinton wrote in her book’s introduction, which appeared alongside her publisher's book announcement. “Now I’m letting my guard down.”
The book’s publisher, Simon & Schuster, claims that What Happened will explore Clinton’s “intense personal experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party in an election marked by rage, sexism...and an opponent who broke all the rules.” Discussing her campaign and how Clinton recovered from her loss, the book also promises to warn readers of the “cautionary tale” of how a “foreign adversary” (reportedly Russia) became involved in the election cycle.
Clinton took to Twitter to share the news, saying, “Writing What Happened was hard, so is what we see every day. As we move forward [and] fight back, I hope this helps.”

The book was initially announced in February as a collection of personal essays leading up to Clinton's involvement in the presidential campaign. Now, What Happened is undoubtedly more personal, and perhaps for the better—it even reached the No. 17 spot on Amazon after its title was announced on Thursday.
What Happened will hit bookshelves on Sept. 12.
