Most Potterheads will agree that the Harry Potter movies are fantastic and a great representation of the series. There was no greater feeling than getting to see these books come to life, but they can never replace the pure magic that the books brought us. Today is the 20th anniversary of the first Harry Potter book, and to celebrate, we're listing 15 ways the books were better than the movies. (They always are.)
1. We meet characters in the books that were never introduced in the movies
2. The books are funnier
"Oh, very good," interrupted Snape, his lip curling. "Yes, it is easy to see that nearly six years of magical education have not been wasted on you, Potter. Ghosts are transparent."
3. And explain everything in detail
Right down to the sweets in Hogsmeade.
4. We get to hear Harry's thoughts
5. Some characters don’t match up
6. Harry's eyes were the wrong color in the movies
Um, they're supposed to be green like his mother's.
7. McGonagall doesn't get the screen time she deserves
QUEEN
8. Because movies have a limited time to tell the story, they skipped out on a lot of scenes
Remember that whole S.P.E.W. subplot where Hermione helps protect elves' rights?
9. Peeves was cut from the movies
lol who?
10. The books had more memorable lines and quotes
"No," Harry corrected him. "He must've always known you'd always want to come back."
11. There is no limit on your imagination
12. The movies never acknowledged the importance of Neville
Ugh, what a hero.
13. We get more time with our fave Hogwarts friends
I mean, we get 4,224 pages of Harry Potter, which takes more time to enjoy than eight films.
14. And information is never eliminated
15. Even people who dislike reading will or have read Harry Potter
The boy who lived in my heart forever.
