Trump Thinks It's a Problem that Comey Is Friends With the Special Counsel in the Russia Investigation

If you haven't already heard, former FBI Director James Comey was leading the investigation into Russia's involvement in the 2016 presidential election, until President Donald Trump fired him May 9. Now, special counsel Robert Mueller has taken over the role of investigating possible ties between Trump's presidential campaign and Russia.

Trump, however, is not pleased with Mueller's key position in the investigation. In a recent Fox and Friends interview, Trump expressed his concern for the friendship between the two men in charge of investigating his involvement with Russia during his election. "Well he's very, very good friends with Comey which is very bothersome," Trump says in the interview.

The POTUS has also found fault in the team of attorneys Mueller has been building to assist him, mostly because of their political ties. “I can say that the people that have been hired are all Hillary Clinton supporters, some of them worked for Hillary Clinton,” Trump said. “I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous if you want to know the truth.”

Reuters reported Friday that Trump is speaking out about the potential investigation against his involvement with Russia. "Look there has been no obstruction, there has been no collusion and virtually everybody agrees to that," he says in this FOX and Friends interview.

He then went on to say again that he has no tapes of his conversations with Comey, even though he suggested he did just last month in a series of tweets. He first admitted to not having tapes Thursday on Twitter.

While the interviewer here says Trump's allusion to tapes "was a smart way to make sure [Comey] stayed honest," the problem with Trump's mention of tapes still lingers. House Intelligence Committee member Adam Schiff told Reuters, "If the president had no tapes, why did he suggest otherwise? Was he trying to intimidate or silence James Comey? And if so, did he take other steps to discourage potential witnesses from speaking out?"

The entire investigation into Russia's involvement seems incredibly confusing, especially as Trump continues to find fault in each person leading the investigation. We'll have to wait and see what bombshell he drops next.
