Kim Kardashian is ready to add another bundle of joy to the Kardashian-West fam! And this time around, the mother of two is heeding her doctor's warning, since carrying another child herself could be life-threatening. People reports that Kim and Kanye have hired a surrogate to carry their third child, and we couldn't be more supportive of the couple and the extra precautions they're taking for Kim and their future baby's safety.
The road to motherhood has not been easy for Kim. During her pregnancy with daughter North, she suffered from preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication that involves high blood pressure and signs of harm to other organs, and placenta accreta, a condition where parts of the placenta grow deep into the wall of the uterus, according to Mayo Clinic.
The reality star has opened up to her family on Keeping Up With the Kardashians about wanting to expand her family but knew that carrying the baby herself would be dangerous. Kim has also been very open on her blog, voicing her concerns about her high-risk pregnancies and raising awareness about her condition. In one blog post, Kim goes into detail about what occurred during her delivery with North due to placenta accreta, and it sounds terrifying, to say the least.
"My doctor had to stick his entire arm in me and detach the placenta with his hand, scraping it away from my uterus with his fingernails," she wrote in the blog post. "How disgusting and painful!!! My mom was crying; she had never seen anything like this before. My delivery was fairly easy, but then going through that—it was the most painful experience of my life! They gave me a second epidural but we were racing against time, so I just had to deal.”
When Kim came to the conclusion that surrogacy was her only option, stars like Chrissy Teigen and sister Khloé Kardashian offered to carry her child, according to People. TMZ reports that the surrogacy process is expensive, and the couple was required to put down a $68,850 deposit with the agency.
It's clear that Kim is one tough mama who will do whatever it takes to grow her family—we wish her and her family all the best.
