We love an old school Disney reunion as much as the next person, but it’s even better to see two former Disney Channel stars supporting each other in their journeys to sobriety.
Demi Lovato, who celebrated being sober for five years in March, recently commended newly sober Miley Cyrus. “I am really proud of Miley," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "I think that it helps people to know that there are people in the spotlight that have challenges, that are faced with very stressful lives. I think it helps to know that recovery is possible and it’s something that is so important to certain people like myself."
According to an interview with SiriusXM Hits 1 Radio, Miley hasn’t smoked marijuana in 10 weeks, and she’s given up drinking alcohol, too.
Although Lovato sought professional treatment, Cyrus explained that she quit on her own. "A lot of people have reached out to me and they're like, 'You know, if you want help or if you want to go to these meetings...' and I'm like, 'No, when I want something, I can do it,'" Miley said. "Anything that I want to do—if I want to stop or start something, I can do anything. I just decided not to anymore and now it's easy for me."
Demi’s sobriety helped relaunch her career, and Miley seems to be headed toward the next stage of her career as well. Here’s to these women supporting one another despite their rocky past.
