A College Student with Severe Allergies Was Allegedly Hazed With Peanut Butter by a Fraternity

A 19-year-old college student was allegedly a victim of dangerous hazing at a fraternity, and his mom was not here for it. After she found out about the incident, she posted the pictures on Facebook, and it wasn't long before they went viral. Teresa Seely posted photos of her son's severely swollen face and eyes, KFOR reports.

In the fall, members of the off-campus Alpha Chi Roh fraternity at Central Michigan University (CMU) allegedly rubbed peanut butter on the son's face while he was passed out—and he has an allergy, so the prank didn't turn out well. He used to attend CMU but apparently transfered due to this incident, according to the Detroit Free Press

“He has a deadly peanut allergy and they rubbed peanut butter on his face while he passed out,” Seely wrote on her Facebook post. “He could have been killed. He was sent to the campus health clinic by a professor and treated. Luckily he is still alive. Our family is devastated.”

According to theDetroit Free Press, the incident took place last October, but Seeley’s mom was unaware of what had happened until this past Tuesday.

University spokeswoman Heather Smith told the Free Press that although school officials are investigating, campus police have no jurisdiction due to the off-campus location of the fraternity. “We’re trying to learn more,” Smith said. “We take these types of matters seriously, and it will be pursued very thoroughly.”

In 2011, the fraternity was shut down at the university due to hazing incidents, KFOR reports. Members of the fraternity toldWDIVthat they saw the incident as a harmless prank. “It was just a joke trying to be funny and put it on his face,” a student said. “We didn’t know he was allergic. It was just college students being kids.”

Seeley has filed police reports. Following further investigation, the students involved in the incident could be suspended, KFOR reported.
