UsTrendy, one of the largest online independent fashion sites, has committed to organizing and hosting events across the country where underprivileged girls will be able to choose a new dress to wear at community events like school dances or proms. In addition, they are currently partnering with influential women around the U.S in order to set up nationwide mentoring programs for girls who have struggled with body image. The idea started last year when UsTrendy founder Sam Sisakhti launched a foundation called the Believe in Yourself Project, which aims to provide free, unworn designer dresses to girls with limited financial resources.
"Recent events in our nation have inspired me to run an event in the nation's capital," Sisakhti explained. Today on January 31, girls were invited to a function where they were able to pick out a free dress for a Father/Daughter dance. Here are some moments from the most heart-warming photos from the event:
According to Sisakhti, "It was a big hit—many of girls said this was their first new dress they have ever worn."
Given the state of the world at the moment, it's little gestures like these that create hope and impact lives. Here's to hoping more companies in 2017 will give back to their communities and create meaningful and lasting change.
