James Corden's Response to the Immigration Ban is Understated Yet Brilliant

Sometimes the simplest statements speak the loudest. This was the philosophy The Late Late Show host James Corden abided by when filming a cold open for Monday night’s episode.

The apparently self-filmed video documents Corden going through standard airport procedures at LAX, from checking in for his flight to removing his shoes in security to eventually handing his boarding pass to the flight attendant at the gate before entering the jet bridge to board his flight.

Audiences waiting for a dose of Corden’s usual humor instead received a simple, clear message as the video faded out: “Today, James flew out of Los Angeles. So all of our shows this week have been pre-taped. Freedom of movement should be this easy for all legal immigrants. Not just the white and Christian ones.”

Corden is among many celebrities and public figures speaking out against President Donald Trump’s executive order banning immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States for the next 90 days and suspending the U.S.’s refugee program for four months.

The video’s statement regarding ease of air travel comes after an undisclosed number of people from countries affected by Trump’s order had been detained in LAX and other airports over the weekend, despite having valid visas and green cards, according to the Los Angeles Times.

According to ABC News, a Department of Homeland Security official confirmed “that there are no more individuals being detained at U.S. airports under the order.”
