Amazon Just Started a STEM Toy Subscription Service for Kids

File under the exact thing every self-professed science geek wishes she would have as a kid: Amazon has just announced it's launching a STEM toy subscription service called "STEM Club."

According to TechCrunch, the new service will deliver a new science, math, technology or engineering-focused toy to homes every month for only $19.99 a month. To allow every child under the age of 13 to take advantage, the service will be split into 3-4, 5-7 and 8-13 age categories, to ensure age-appropriate picks, which will be chosen by "toy experts." (Where can I get that job?) All of the toys will be newly launched or Amazon exclusives, which makes the subscription service extra advantageous for parents.

Amazon has already been a major force in pushing science and technology toys with an entire section of the site dedicated to STEM toys, which had the highest sales volume during the holidays this year.

We're hoping this prompts parents to get their kids involved with science and technology from a young age - especially their daughters. Considering women continue to make up a small percentage of many STEM fields and some girls are still handed a Barbie when they'd rather be building something, this could be a step in the right direction to get girls interested in science - no gimmicky pink "STEM toys for girls" necessary.
