While winning your first Golden Globe marks a career milestone in the entertainment industry, Emma Stone went viral on social media for an entirely different reason last night.
The actress had good intentions when she attempted to congratulate writer-director Damien Chazelle with a hug after his win for Best Screenplay for the critically-acclaimed La La Land. Unfortunately, her execution was a little off.
When Chazelle got up to accept his award, Ryan Gosling hugged him first. Then the director used his free arm to embrace his girlfriend, Olivia Hamilton. Stone simultaneously approached Chazelle with a hug, and the situation somehow turned into a double hug. In the most adorably awkward way possible, Emma recovered.

Ever since it happened, we’ve been replaying the amazingly weird moment over and over again. While some of us may still be laughing, we feel for Emma because we’ve all been in her shoes before—just maybe not on such a public stage. With her stellar sense of humor, we imagine the actress laughed it off as soon as it happened.
