While swiping through Tinder can be hilarious and fun, it's SUPER important to take safety precautions when meeting up with a new person outside the app. Earlier this year, a sorority woman was kidnapped and beaten by her Tinder date, and other times you just end up encountering some major weirdos. The most recent crime resulting from Tinder swiping has tragically ended with the death of a 26-year-old woman.
The New York Daily Newsreports that a man was arrested in Mexico City and charged with murder after human bones in garbage bags, caustic soda and hydrochloric acid were found at his apartment. Emmanuel Delani Valdez Bocangegra is believed to have killed and dissolved his date Francia Ruth Ibarra’s body in acid. Even more horribly, police believe that Bocangegra killed Ibarra after she refused to have sex with him.
The couple met through Tinder and had a few dates together before Ibarra disappeared in early December. When she never showed up to meet with friends, Ibarra’s friends found out through social media that she was involved with Bocangegra, who once attended Ibarra’s school as a medical student.
Heartbreaking cases like these are strong reminders to proceed with caution when you’re meeting someone from Tinder in real life. Brush up on go-to Tinder rules to protect yourself in these online dating situations.
