The Hadid family has been outspoken about their battles with debilitating illnesses. On Wednesday, Gigi Hadid opened up about her struggle with Hashimoto's, a thyroid disease.
Gigi revealed her condition at a panel hosted by Reebok, where she was in the company of other empowering female celebrities like Ruby Rose and Aly Raisman.
Hadid has been living with this disease for two years and has taken medicine to combat the long-term effects of the disease, but she still suffers from metabolism imbalance. Speaking about this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, Hadid shared that she prepped for the runway by trying to become leaner rather than losing weight to get skinnier.
"My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year," she said. "I have Hashimoto's disease. It's a thyroid disease, and it's now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the VS show I didn't want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that's good."
We admire Gigi for revealing her fight with thyroid disease because many other people struggle with this. More visibility will hopefully lead to better treatments.
