Warning: If you have not seen Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in its entirety, STOP READING NOW. The below is filled with spoilers.
We’ve known for a while that Jess would be making a comeback in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. But we think all GG fans can agree—Team Jess or not—that this character deserved more than what he got in the revival. Here’s why:
1. He was barely even in the revival
We were promised Jess would be in three of the Netflix event’s episodes. He only appeared in two, and even that was brief.
2. He didn’t even get to go to Luke’s wedding
Jess seemed to be in town for Luke’s wedding—and to help Liz and T.J. with that whole vegetable cult situation. When it was all said and done, Jess didn’t even get to attend the “elopement” Lorelai, Luke and Rory pulled off in the middle of the night.
3. Lorelai seems to not be entirely over her issues with him
Lorelai was still making jokes and not-so-subtle digs at Jess every time his name was brought up. We think it’s about time she moves on from this.
4. What’s going on in his life was barely mentioned
It was said in passing that Jess’s book press was doing well and there was nothing really new to report in his personal life. That’s it? We. Need. More. Details.
5. Rory only used him for career advice
When Rory was in the depths of her career rut, Jess was the one who suggested she write a book about her and her mom. He’s always inspired Rory’s top achievements, but it was obvious he was being used solely to put this idea on Rory’s radar.
6. Rory is clearly still hung up on Logan
Rory was having a transatlantic affair with Logan throughout the revival. And anyone who could read between the lines of their goodbye could tell she wasn’t ready to let him go.
7. And prob having his baby
Who else could be the father?
8. The way he looked at Rory through her window
While it was entirely romantic, we hated that Jess’s love for Rory appeared to be so one-sided. Literal heartbreak.
9. He’s not her Luke
We don’t think he should have to wait for years and pine away for Rory in the way Luke did for Lorelai.
