The Fashion Institute of Technology is giving talented black designers a much-needed opportunity to showcase their work. While the fashion industry is definitely more diverse today than it was even ten years ago, it’s still incredibly difficult for designers of color to create successful brands.

Opening on December 6, Black Fashion Designers is an exhibit curated by FIT in an effort to celebrate the work of black designers past and present. The showcase is the Museum at FIT’s second exhibit to honor black designers, the first being in 1992, according to Mic.

"Our exhibition is organized thematically," curatorial assistant Elizabeth Way said in an interview with Mic. "And this is also really important because one of the goals of the exhibition was to really show a wide range of design by black designers. That black design is not one thing."

Black Fashion Designers will showcase over 60 unique and talented designers in the hopes of creating more space in the fashion industry for black designers to shine. We can't wait to see all of these beautiful and impactful pieces!
