Gigi Hadid Apologizes for Her Melania Trump Impression

Gigi Hadid was met with a swarm of criticism after doing an impression of future First Lady Melania Trump at the American Music Awards. The skit, which featured Hadid attempting Melania's Slovenian accent, was meant to poke fun at the speech Melania plagiarized from current First Lady Michelle Obama. "I love my husband, President Barack Obama, and our children, Sasha and Malia," Hadid joked, according to Cosmopolitan.

The second the skit was over Trump supporters and internet trolls flooded Gigi's Instagram, calling her every name in the book. Hadid's co-host Jay Pharoah defended her on social media, pointing out that Michelle Obama has long been a target of hatred, but in his words, "Nobody really snaps about it!" Pharoah's impression of President-elect Donald Trump also did not get nearly as much criticism as Hadid's take on Melania.

Hadid, an outspoken Clinton supporter, apologized to anyone she offended via Twitter and noted that the bit was all in good humor. She admitted that she even changed parts of the original script which she felt "took the joke too far."

As Aristotle said, "There is only one way to avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing." In other words, you can't please everybody—even if you are a famous and beautiful supermodel.
