In last night's episode of Grey's Anatomy, viewers not only got to see past experiences from cast members such as Dr. Webber, Dr. Edwards and Dr. Owen Hunt, but they also saw a flashback of Meredith's history. As we all know, Dr. Derek Shepherd, the most amazing neurosurgeon ever in the history of television, passed away from a car accident in season 11. His death took its toll on Meredith and her children because her one true love left her without warning. Grey's fans everywhere were shocked, disappointed and devastated.
Throughout the show's 13 seasons, we've seen Meredith's character survive numerous tragedies. A plane crash, a hospital shooting, the death of a sister and mother, the death of her mother, drowning, being assaulted by a patient and so much more. Because of this strength, viewers everywhere look at her and feel inspiration, courage and motivation. If Meredith can do it, you can too.
During the surgery she was performing in this week's episode, Meredith remembered the time that she went with her kids to visit Derek in the hospital after his car wreck. She remembered the feeling of telling her children that their dad was dead, she remembered that feeling of anger and frustration because the doctors didn't do everything in their power to save him. She remembered when Zola said to her, "Why didn't you fix him? You fix everyone." (Needless to say, Grey's fans everywhere lost it.)
Because of everything Meredith has been through, she has become an amazing surgeon. Shonda Rhimes has put her character through so much, but her strength and persistance to keep going are what inspire us all. Just like she said in last night's episode, "Sometimes you play games in your head. You make up someone, someone good. Whatever you need to keep you going.”

Here are six reasons why Meredith continues to inspire us.
No matter what she goes through, she doesn't give up.
Life is hard, and we're faced with all kinds of challenges. But Meredith's persistence and motivation to keep going is what matters.
She knows that life is hard.
Meredith knows that nothing in life is always perfect and that you can't be happy all of the time. She knows that life is hard and that everyone has challenging times. She's not going to sugarcoat it.
She knows how to fight.
She gives the best advice.
She's been through it all. Who wouldn't want advice from Meredith Grey?
She admits to failure.
Failure is a part of life. You can't be perfect 24/7. You learn from your mistakes, you keep going and you will learn. It will make you a better person. All of the blood, sweat and tears will be worth it in the end.
She knows how precious life is.
She believes that everything happens for a reason, good or bad.
