At this point a true Gilmore Girls fan has no doubt seen the trailer for the show's four-part A Year in the Life Netflix revival, set to be released the day after Thanksgiving. If not, well here you go.
Now you'll notice all of Rory's major love interests have returned. Dean, Jess, Logan—the gang's all there. Or are they? If you watch carefully, you'll notice that Marty, AKA "Naked Guy," wasn't in the trailer.
Yes, sadly Marty won't be returning for the GG revival. Even though he never really dated Rory, his crush and their friendship was adorable. Besides Paris, he was her first friend at Yale. He was plenty likable—unless you hated him, which is totally your prerogative—but couldn't compete with the suave, impressive, charming Logan Huntzberger. Apparently he's still taking a back seat to Rory's other love interests.
Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, the executive producers of Gilmore Girls, said they would have liked to include Wayne Wilcox, who played Marty in the original series, but had to limit the storylines to fit into their allotted four 90-minute mini-movie slots. "We absolutely tried,” Sherman-Palladino told TVLine. “Organically it just didn’t fit in. We love Marty. We love Wayne."
Even if you're Team Jess, Team Logan or (God forbid) Team Dean, a cameo from nerdy Marty would have been a treat.
