For many of us, we celebrated our 20th birthday with maybe a cake and some friends, or even a bottle of sparkling grape juice, if we are lucky. But for Lorde, instead, she chose her day of birth to give the world an update on her next album, as one does.
According to iHeartRadio, on the eve of her 20th birthday, Lorde posted a very lengthy Facebook message updating fans about her life and where she is at with her career. She titled the message: “A NOTE FROM THE DESK OF A NEWBORN ADULT”, because, of course.
She continued with explaining how she met the world when she was 16 and the “princess of her childhood streets, handmade and ugly and sure of herself.” But then it gets serious.
As many of her fans probably noticed, Lorde hasn’t been in the public eye for some time. “I made a very deliberate choice to withdraw for a little while from a public life. I haven’t had my hair or makeup done in a year, the free handbags dried up LONG ago,” she says. And you know what? She loves it. ”And let me tell you, as much as I love being full noise album cycle girl, it's been a motherfucking joy.”
But in those days and months out of the public, she has gotten her heart broken, moved out of her home, made new friends, and wrote about it. In fact, she says that she has written “so much more than what I’ve written down here, and I’m in new york getting it done.”
Well, if her next album is anything like Pure Heroine, we are definitely in for a treat. Even though the big day is not today, or tomorrow, or even in the next month, according to Lorde, it will be soon.
Happy Birthday, Lorde. We can not wait for what’s to come.
