It's been nearly a decade since Gossip Girl first aired in 2007, and our obsession is still stronger than ever. And of all the things we love about the show, there's nothing we love more than the epic romance between Chuck and Blair.

So, take a moment to remember them as they are, because what we're about to tell you will completely upset everything you know to be true.

In an interview with Vulture, the genius minds behind the show, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, revealed that Chair wasn't something that was every supposed to happen. Okay, what?!

"None of that was expected. Chuck came into the show as the villain," they said. "But it’s one of those great, fun things about making a television series — it’s an evolving, living, breathing thing, and things can easily change on a whim."

Turns out, it was the real-life chemistry between Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester that made it clear that a Chuck/Blair love just had to happen.

"You get an actor like Ed Westwick and see the chemistry he had with Leighton Meester, and their scenes just crackled," they explained. Swoon. The creators added, "They came into the show as very different kinds of roles, but the chemistry between them took over."

In that case, bless Ed and Leighton for making Chair a reality. We do have some good news, though. As for how Chuck and Blair are doing now?

"They’re definitely happy, I would say." *praise hands emoji*
