The temperature is dropping, the leaves are changing and the grocery stores are filling their aisles with candy. This can only mean one thing: Halloween is just around the corner! Bring on the scary movies, haunted houses and seemingly endless amount of candy corn. However, the most anticipated aspect of Halloween each year is definitely the costumes. Choosing a costume can be a difficult decision but should also be a fun one. While planning your own costume is fun, why not gather a few of your best friends—guys and girls alike—and try a group costume this year? After all, the more the merrier!
1. The Muppets
The Muppets are making a comeback with their new TV series, so why not bring back this old-time classic? You can buy these costumes at any big costume-retailer. Or you can make your own with clothing that you already own. Add simple touches such as pig ears for Miss Piggy or paint your face green to be Kermit the Frog!
2. The How to Get Away with Murder cast
This popular TV series (#TGIT, anybody?) is one of the most thrilling shows around, which makes it perfect for Halloween! You and your friends can easily recreate these notorious characters. The only hard part is choosing which character is right for you! Are you sassy like Michaela Pratt or a jokester like Asher? Do you tend to attract trouble like Wes, or are you a flirt like Connor? Better yet, try to imitate the powerful Annalise Keating, if you dare.
3. Ghostbusters
What better way to fight off the ghosts of Halloween than by dressing up as a Ghostbuster? It's super simple and very recognizable. Start off by wearing any beige-colored clothing; then, accessorize with a black belt and boots. Finish off your outfit by grabbing your proton pack—either a backpack or a portable vacuum cleaner will work! For even more fun, have a couple of your friends dress up as ghosts and chase them all across campus.
4. Harry Potter characters
Harry Potter may have been around for many years, but it is always a great idea for a group costume. All you need is a white button-up or collared shirt, a gray bottom (either a skirt or pants will do) and a black robe. Then, find out which house you belong to and accessorize with a tie or scarf in your house's colors!
5. The Avengers
Superheroes will never go out of style. Why not have your gang dress up as one of the most ultimate squads in the world—the Avengers. This costume can be as simple as wearing a shirt with your favorite hero's symbol or as elaborate as the DIY costumes shown above. The more details, the better!
6. Major presidential candidates of 2016
The 2016 election has been very interesting, to say the least. Why not dress up as your favorite—or the most controversial—candidate? Dress up in a suit, accessorize with some of the candidate's campaign materials and imitate the heck out of 'em. Whether you're wearing Bernie Sanders' glasses, Donald Trump's hair or Hillary Clinton's pearl necklace, you're sure to be quite the conversation starter. If you have a giant group of friends, why not go as every single Republican candidate?
7. Mario Kart characters
Mario Kart may have been immensely popular a while ago, but the characters will always be remembered. All it takes is a couple pairs of overalls and various colored shirts to be Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi. Any pink dress will suffice for Princess Peach. Attach some balloons to your bike and ride all around town, trying to pop each other's balloons. This group costume will certainly result in many laughs and photos.
8. Sushi rolls
Who doesn't like sushi? For this costume, get a white pillow and decorate it like your favorite type of sushi. Then, wear some white clothing and attach the pillow to your back with some green fabric. Super simple and very cute!
9. Roller coaster ride
This costume will definitely take much more time and effort than some of the others listed here, but it will all be worth it! Create a roller coaster seat and fill a pair of jeans with cloth to create the illusion that you are sitting in the rollercoaster. Then, put your acting skills to the test as you pretend to be on an exhilarating ride with your friends. The more people you get to do this with you, the more realistic it will be. Just make sure to coordinate your movements with the whole group.
Will you and your pals be heading out in any of these co-ed group costumes this Halloween, collegiettes?
