It's the circle of life. Disney has decided to remake another of their classic films. Which one is it this time? The Lion King. Shocker, right?
Well, yes and no. On one hand, The Lion King is one of Disney's most successful movies of all time. It's raked in a lot of cash since its release in 1994, won two Academy Awards, and has been turned into a very lucrative Broadway show. On the other hand, well, just that. Why mess with something so great? You know, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Disney just announced the "reimagining" of the film, which is to be directed by The Jungle Book's Jon Favreau. Yes, we said reimagining. While we're not quite sure what that means, we think the film might be a live action/CGI version, following suit with Disney's other recent remakes. One thing we do know: the movie will include songs from the original animated film.
In recent years, Disney has released other live-action films based on their animated movies, such as Cinderella, Maleficent and, most recently, The Jungle Book. In March 2017, they will release yet another: the eagerly-anticipated Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson.
The Lion King film hasn't been given a release date, but we're already thinking about what movie Disney should remake next. We've got our fingers crossed for The Little Mermaid II.
