Deliciously undone seems to be the name of the beauty game this season—which, interestingly, is not too different from last season. There seems to be all around a pull away from the heavily made-up, infinitely contoured visage, a love of the fresh face and a commitment to a more natural look.
For Zero + Maria Cornejo Spring/Summer 2017, lead makeup artist Dick Page continued this trend using Shiseido products, blending a grayish creme eyeshadow with lip balm and pressing it over and under the eye for soft yet lively shine. He added just a framing of soft pink blush over the cheeks—blending it into place in a way that matched each model's unique facial structure—and a swipe of lip balm on the lips. It was meant to match Maria Cornejo's eco-friendly and sustainable clothing collection for the season, full of free-spirited and loose yet modern looks.
To complement Cornejo's collection, the inspiration for hair (by James Pecis using PHYTO products) was the soulful sensuality of heat in New Orleans. Pecis maintained the ideals of Cornejo's collection, with an updated take on the Marcel wave, or Marcelling, where hair is styled by bending the hair with a curling iron. Though Marcelling was used in the 1920s and 1930s in a method similar to short, bobbed finger waves, Pecis kept the hair long and elegantly mussed for a look that fit today's style with cool "S-shaped" waves. You can actually get a curling iron to do this specifically—the Hot Tools 1" Professional Marcel Curling Iron—then clamp hair first over then under the curling iron in repetition. Voilà, instant runway style! And you didn't even have to go to New Orleans.
