It seems like a hit song and stunning music video do not a VMA nomination make. With Tuesday's release of the VMA nominations recognizing artists like Beyoncé, Adele and Ariana Grande, a number of other music industry faves were overlooked completely.
The biggest shock of all was the lack of nominations for Taylor Swift. Despite the release of gorgeous music videos for "Out of the Woods" and "Wildest Dreams," Taylor was passed over by the VMAs. Reports have suggested that Taylor might not have submitted her name for nomination, but nevertheless, her absence is noted.
Selena Gomez didn't snag a single nomination either, despite an otherwise incredible year.
Speaking of girl power, Demi Lovato has had a breakout year. Although she was technically recognized for her video collaboration with Fall Out Boy, none of her solo work made it onto the VMAs' radar.
And despite the attention Meghan Trainor's "Me Too" music video garnered after that Photoshop scandal, it wasn't enough to secure a nod.
When it comes to male artists, Zayn Malik and Nick Jonas were also noteably snubbed.
While there are plenty of names we are excited to see on the VMA nominations list (Beyoncé definitely deserved every single one of her 11 noms!), some of the names left out feel like definite snubs.
