Snapchat announced Tuesday that you can now add Bitmojis to your snaps or in the app’s chat system. Bitmoji, if you’re not already obsessed, is a keyboard app that lets you design a cartoon of yourself and use it as an emoji, and it comes complete with hundreds of little actions (emoticons) that Bitmoji-you is doing. Snapchat purchased Bitstrips, the company behind Bitmoji, this past March for a cool $100 million.
In a video announcement of the collaboration demonstrating how users might add Bitmojis to their snapchats and messages, users are seen making their own Bitmojis and embellishing their snaps with the cute little icons. Like Snapchat’s addition of emojis and its own stickers to the palate of snap decor, Bitmojis can be moved around on screen, made enormous or tiny and pasted in infinite quantities.
If you’re chatting with a friend, you will even see special Bitmojis come up if they have made their own avatar as well! These combo-Bitmojis, dubbed “Friendmojis,” will display your icon as well as your friend’s.
Snapchat has evolved massively since its origin in September of 2011. It has been through several pop cultural rounds; first it was everyone’s go-to sext-messenger, then it brought DJ Khaled to fame again and now it is apparently used for celebrity takedowns (and basically just everything Kardashian). Who knows where Snap will go next?
Just download Bitmoji or link your existing account to Snapchat, and let the snapping begin!
