Monday afternoon, Demi Lovato went on Twitter to say she was leaving her social media platforms. She began by tweeting, "Damn I gotta quit saying shit. Bye Twitter," complete with a middle finger, thumbs up and laughing emoji. It seemed like she may have been joking at first, but she later followed up by saying she'd be quitting Instagram as well.
However, she did add she will continue to use Snapchat, "cause I don’t have to see what some of y’all say."
It's unclear why Demi is suddenly abandoning her Twitter and Instagram accounts, but it’s likely due to the backlash she received after she made comments insinuating Ariana Grande is better than Mariah Carey.
"Mariah is a legend and is so talented but constantly disses people," Lovato later added. "It's nasty the way she treats Jennifer [Lopez]. Ari did nothing wrong." These comments struck a chord with Carey's fans, and they have been sending nasty comments towards Lovato on social media in response.
If this is in fact the reason for Lovato's decision, that would explain her following tweets, in which she wondered why people focus so much on the things she says rather than the good she does.
But why do people actually give a fuck what I say?? like if you don't care the gtfo haha

That one time I started my own charity providing mental health care for people who can't afford it and this is what y'all talk about

She concluded by tweeting, "And people wonder what's wrong with the world. Pay more attention to good than bad." And with that, she ended with an emoji waving goodbye.
Lovato’s Twitter and Instagram accounts haven't been deleted, so it's possible she’s just taking a break. Whether she completely quit social media or is just going on a hiatus, hopefully she finds the escape she's looking for from all the negativity online.
