Kendall Jenner Defends Her Supermodel Status

Kendall Jenner and BFF Gigi Hadid have come under fire again for not being *real* supermodels, according to supermodel vet Stephanie Seymour. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Seymour said of the two girls, “They are completely different than we were,” adding that “supermodels are sort of a thing of the past.” When asked what the girls should be called instead, Seymour said with a laugh, “Bitches of the moment!”

Although this isn’t the first time someone in the fashion world has criticized the girls’ careers, Jenner has decided that this time she’s not standing for it. In a message posted to her app, Jenner fires back, “If you choose to be a cyberbully, I’m going to stick up for myself. No one is trying to steal Stephanie Seymour’s thing, or trying to be her… If people want to call Gigi and I supermodels now, it doesn’t take anything away from supermodels of the past. Obviously, I have so much respect for those women, but right now, we’re the models of this time. Significant? Maybe. Hardworking? For sure.”

Jenner adds that, prior to the incident, she admired Seymour and is disappointed in Seymour’s attempts to publicly shame her and Hadid instead of mentoring and encouraging them like others in the business have. Jenner says that she receives tips and notes like ‘You’re killing it’ from other former supermodels, and suggests to Seymour that her behavior is class-less.

Jenner—who has walked in fashion shows for Givenchy, Chanel, Diane von Furstenberg, Balmain, Alexander Wang and Oscar de la Renta, just to name a few—ends the letter with confidence and grace, saying, “I fully intend on being a positive influence on anyone younger than me, my entire life.”

Hey Kendall, you’re killing it!
