The Trailer For the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Spinoff ‘Station 19’ Dropped & It’s Everything We Hoped For

$

While we barely got two minutes of clips, I’m so far sold on Station 19.

It’s got everything you would expect from a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff; an overbearing father figure, a strong-jawed, pretty-eyed male co-lead (who I’m officially dubbing McSmolder (Grey Damon)), illicit workplace hookups, and, of course, poorly-timed interruptions.

Oh, wait, I think I’m forgetting something…. Did I mention an overwhelming flair for the dramatics? Because, duh.

In what I’m guessing is going to be Ben’s first official fire, one of the firefighters loses track of their captain (Miguel Sandoval), who they find pulseless amid smoke and flames. The crew harnesses themselves up, grabs a hold of their captain, and synchronously throw themselves through the glass of the windows of the fifth or so floor. Of course, this stunt wouldn’t be complete without flames billowing out in their wake, and a wide-cut shot of them falling slowly down the side of the building.

I bet you can guess where they take him, right?

Meredith takes Andy (played by Jaina Lee Ortiz), the captain’s daughter, under her wing, ushering her into a supply closet to have her moment of weakness away from prying eyes in a scene which is likely from the upcoming backdoor pilot, an as of yet unnamed Grey’s episode set to air sometime in March.

When her father resigns from his hospital bed, Andy immediately puts her name in for his replacement. Given that she’s a young woman in a male-dominated field, you might expect a lot of pushback. Instead, you get her voiceover saying “I know I can lead” and a clip of one of her colleagues saying, “You’re about as badass as they come…” Can I get an amen?! (So far) no suggestions of nepotism, just pure acknowledgement of something that she's been working towards her whole life. This is what I'm here for.

Of course it wouldn’t be a true Shonda show without moments of, sometimes inopportune, comic relief. In the aftermath of a house fire, a trio of firefighters is sifting through the wreckage. They overturn a hunk of debris to reveal a dog, to which one claims, “Dibs on the puppy!”

“You can’t call dibs on the puppy!” one argues back.

“I just did,” he shrugs. Obviously, this childish argument had me choking on laughter.

And in the end, falling nicely in line with the theme of loving what you do in tonight’s Grey’s "(Don't Fear) the Reaper," Andy says, "I do this job because I love it… every fire put out, every life saved… Station 19 is where we choose to be."

Station 19 premieres March 22 during TGIT, and you can watch the trailer for yourself here.

Rose McGowan Got in a Screaming Match with a Trans Woman Who Called Her Out

Rose McGowan, most recently in the news for her accusations against Harvey Weinstein, was promoting her memoir Brave in a Barnes & Noble in Manhattan this past Wednesday. However, what was supposed to be an evening to celebrate McGowan’s courage quickly took a sharp turn.

According to Cosmopolitan, a trans woman in the audience asked McGowan about a comment she had made on RuPaul’s “What’s the Tee?” podcast regarding trans women back in July. McGowan’s comments included phrases like “They assume because they felt like a woman on the inside... that’s not developing as a woman,” and “A lot of the stuff I hear trans complaining about... yeah, welcome to the world,” which understandably would upset the trans community.

A post shared by Brandon😂 (@ur_werst_nightmare) on

The woman in the audience continued to call out McGowan. "Trans women are dying and you said that we, as trans women, are not like regular women. We get raped more often. We go through domestic violence more often," the woman said.

McGowan repeatedly interrupted her, and the two were eventually screaming at each other. At one point, McGowan said, "My point was, we are the same. There’s an entire show called ID channel, a network, dedicated to women getting abused, murdered, sexualized, violated, and you’re part of that too, sister. It’s the same.”

McGowan's comments overlook the violence specifically targeted at the trans community, who the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs reported are 1.8 times more likely to experience sexual violence.

McGowan continued to swear at the woman, who was eventually escorted out by security, and then encouraged onlookers to refer to this incident as “a breakdown.” She told the trans woman that she was only mad at McGowan “because I have a ... vagina and I’m white or I’m black or I’m yellow or I’m purple,” seeming to insinuate that the woman was simply jealous of her privilege. The crowd, meanwhile, was chanting “We love you, Rose,” and stood behind her blunt remarks.

To me, the entire situation seemed very poorly handled. Here’s hoping that McGowan realizes the insensitivity of her words and begins to understands the specific marginalization that trans people face every day.

How to Talk to Your SO About Money

Money is a notoriously sensitive subject. This is never more true than when you have to discuss it with your significant other. Whether it’s establishing who pays for what on dates or how the two of you can afford an apartment together, figuring out how to talk about money is a big part of having a successful relationship. So we’ve talked to some collegiettes and a relationship expert about how talk about money with your partner.

Work through the awkward

Bringing up money with an SO, particularly with a new one, can be uncomfortable. But it is a conversation worth having. This can be especially awkward, for example, when dealing with the first date. Who pays for the date? Tradition and chivalry say the guy, but feminism might suggest that both parties should pay for their own stuff. So who should pay for the date is totally up to you. But what if your SO is pushy about paying for the date and that makes you uncomfortable?

Emily Jean Henry, a collegiette who is a sales associate at Guitar Center, says “If someone were uncomfortable [with their SO paying] and wanted to pay for themselves, they should say something. If [their SO] isn’t understanding, then that’s the sign of an unhealthy relationship…It may seem like a little thing, but someone who isn’t willing to work with you even on something like that isn’t worth your time.”

We agree wholeheartedly. Discussing who pays for what on the first date (and any payment from there on out) is important, even if it is awkward. If you’re not really sure how to say you want the payment to be equal, Dr. Jordan, a developmental and behavioral pediatrician who is also a certified therapist by the Institute for Relationship Therapy, suggests saying, “I just feel more comfortable dating this way.” So power through it and have that conversation, if you so choose. According to Dr. Jordan, the way your SO responds will tell you a lot about him or her.

Be honest

The best way to go about having any conversation is to be honest, and that definitely applies to money. Emily Jean says, “Just be direct about it and matter-of-fact. If you expect him to pay or if you want to pay, it’s totally fine no matter what. Just be straightforward.”

That kind of honesty will go a long way with your partner, and will be better for your relationship in the long run. Mariel Tishma, a junior at Columbia College Chicago, says she and her boyfriend have “never had a super explicit conversation about it, but whenever we plan dates, if one of us is worried about it being expensive, we’ll mention it and generally we both pay for our own thing. That just makes me feel better because then I don’t have to worry about putting a strain on him…we just try and be honest about how we’re doing financially at the moment and help each other out if we can.”

It’s important to remember that your SO can’t read your mind, Dr. Jordan reminds us. So, you have to be open about how you feel, even if that can be totally scary sometimes. And having that open conversation will ultimately bring you closer because you’re addressing both of your needs. Dr. Jordan says, “There’s always a good way to get both people’s needs met.” In the end, you’ll be glad you said something because now your partner will know how you feel about who pays for what and when.

Don’t overthink it

Talking about money can be daunting, especially if you overthink it. Overthinking it can make you afraid to have the conversation at all, even though it’s important.

“Don’t let fear hold you back,” Dr. Jordan says. With that, he says that if you’re afraid of pissing off your partner or him or her leaving because of this conversation, that’s a red flag. That fear might indicate that you two don’t have a healthy relationship where you feel free to communicate openly with each other.

As well, Dr. Jordan says it can’t be a healthy relationship if you feel like you can’t establish boundaries with your partner. But overall, he says, “My guess is 99 out of 100 [times], nothing bad happens.” So don’t sweat it, but Dr. Jordan suggest that you do take the time to clearly figure out what you want and think it through so you can communicate it to your partner most effectively.

Give it time

As it turns out, bringing up money with your SO gets easier with time. For example, Shelby Carroll, a junior at Webster University, and her boyfriend are planning to move in together in the near future, which means planning how they will be able to afford everything that goes into that.

“We’ve gotten a lot better at [talking about money],” she says. “And it’s just not as awkward anymore now that we are seriously considering moving in together. Since finances are a big part of living together, we’ve decided to just talk about it now so we won’t have issues when we are actually living together. It just causes less stress and strain in the relationship.”

So part of broaching the money conversation may be that you and your SO need time to become comfortable enough to talk about it at length.

Understand it’s not really about the money

Even though you may be after a conversation about money with your partner, it usually goes much deeper. “It’s not about the money,” Dr. Jordan says. “It’s never about the money. It’s about communication…it’s about having your needs heard and respected.” He says talking about money can be sensitive for some because it brings up emotional baggage. If your partner grew up in a family that struggled financially, the money talk could bring up emotions from their childhood.

“Money brings up a lot of issues and feelings for people,” Dr. Jordan adds, so it’s important to be attentive to how financial situations of their past might have affected them, and might still affect them. The best way to navigate talking about money with your partner, especially if you know they’ve had a difficult past financially, is to not be judgmental, he says. By really listening to your partner and making it clear that you support them and are not judging them, you let them know that they can come to you in the future.

Navigating how to talk to your SO about money can be tricky, but the truth is it’s a good and, at times, necessary conversation to have. As long as you are open and honest with your partner and make a genuine effort to hear him or her out, you’ll be just fine.

OMG, Ellen DeGeneres Just Gave Her Show's Audience $1 Million

Yesterday was Ellen DeGeneres' birthday, but she didn't want to be the only one receiving gifts. On Friday's show, she gave the talk show audience $1 million to split!

Those at the show weren't just random attendees, though. DeGeneres explained that everyone there had spread kindness in one way or another, whether it was Lori Gaines, a teacher who donated her kidney to the mother of one of her students, or Kenya and John Hughes who drove 800 miles on their own dime to deliver supplies to Hurricane Harvey victims.

Before the big reveal, DeGeneres told the audience to look underneath their seats. There, they found boxes of Cheerios.

"What a coincidence all of you would get a box of Cheerios," DeGeneres joked before telling the audience the real gift.

"Hold onto your Cheerios because all of you are splitting one million dollars!" DeGeneres said. "That's a lot of money!"

Audience members, of course, began to freak out.

The gift was a result of DeGeneres'partnership with Cheerios to achieve one million acts of goodwill.

TBH, I'm jealous — but these people definitely deserve it.

The North Coast Journal, a California-based newspaper, posted a collage of pictures of people reported missing on Thursday, captioned "See anyone you recognize?"

Facebook users soon realized one of the pictures was of season 22 Bachelor contestant Bekah M. According to the California Attorney General's website, Bekah (full name: Rebekah Martinez) was last seen on November 12 and is now missing.

Except, she's not. In addition to appearing on recent episodes of The Bachelor, Bekah has maintained a presence on both Twitter and Instagram.

According to the Journal, it was Bekah's mom that originally reported her missing on November 18 after not hearing from her since November 12.

Bekah responded to the madness that ensued as a result in a humorous tweet.

She then followed up with a joke about her license photo, which is what was published on the Attorney General's website.

Well, that's that.

Kim and the rest of the Kardashian fam are known to have some famous feuds with other celebs, but with the release of her new Kimoji Heart fragrances, she's feeling extra generous (or maybe just petty AF?). According to Teen Vogue, Kim is sending a Kimoji fragrance to her friends and her haters (and we're actually LOL-ing right now).

Among the list of her haters (in blue) is the notorious feud participant, Taylor Swift, as well as Blac Chyna, Naya Rivera and Sarah Michelle Gellar, whose feud with Kim goes all the way back to 2014! The names among the nice list (in pink) include Kim's family and friends such as Cher, Jennifer Lawrence, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

The packaging of each fragrance is super cute and full of Valentine's Day vibes. Friends and family received a PR package with the perfume in a giant heart box made of chocolate with a KKW wooden hammer to break it open. And if that's not the most adorable thing you've ever heard, the perfume is also resting in a bunch of personalized candy hearts, according to Teen Vogue.

Um, fans want one too! Although we won't get them in the cute heart box, you can still buy the perfume online now.

So Apparently We've Been Pronouncing 'Versace' Wrong This Whole Time

With the recent release of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story starring Darren Criss and Penélope Cruz, the name "Versace" is on the tip of everyone’s tongues. However, it turns out that we’ve been pronouncing the name wrong this entire time. In a recent 73 Questions segment with Vogue, Donatella Versace, sister to Gianni Versace and the current vice president and chief designer of the Versace Group, dropped a bombshell: pronouncing the brand’s name as "Versach-ee" is wrong. Instead, Donatella, the leading authority based on the fact that it's her own last name, tells Vogue that it's actually "Versach-eh."

Honestly? I bet there are quite a few people in the fashion community who are a bitembarrassed right now. Donatella didn’t bring this faux-pas up herself. She was asked which Italian word she wishes English speakers would stop saying incorrectly, and this was the perfect answer.

She was asked some other interesting questions as she led viewers through her jaw-dropping Milan home, and some of the answers may surprise you.

What’s the song that you’re currently obsessed with? "Million Reasons."

If you were not running Versace, how would you be spending your time? Having a nervous breakdown, probably.

What’s the best film ever made? The Shape of Water.

Leather or lace? Leather.

Silver or gold? Gold.

Is it true that you’ve worked out every day for 18 years? Yes, it's true. Even if only for five minutes. (Now that's commitment!)

Donatella’s life is pretty busy right now. She's a co-chair of this year’s Met Gala, and, this past September, she debuted a collection in tribute to her late brother, Gianni Versace. During the Vogue segment, she was candid about her brother and how important he was to her. She told the interviewer, "His life inspired me" and recounted her favorite memory of the two of them backstage at his last Paris Fashion show, just before his death.

You can watch the full segment and get an inside look into the fashion icon’s house down below.

This Is Not a Drill: Emma Stone Just Got a Perm

When you hear the word "perm," you’re likely transported back to a time in middle school when you convinced yourself it was a good idea to style your hair that way(and were not prepared for the tragedy that still haunts you to this day). According to Teen Vogue, actress Emma Stone took the permanently-curly plunge with her friend and makeup artist Rachel Goodwin. Goodwin shared the entire process with us on Instagram, just in case the scarring memory of your perm days was starting to get fuzzy.

Goodwin captioned the photo, "We have a permanent bond! Some friends get tattoos, well we get perms! We’re here to tell you that they are BACK and they're not your grandmas perm! Especially when you are in the amazing hands of @mararoszak and @bykileyfitz at @mare_salon#curlyisthenewstraight this is the #newwave."

And the worst part is? While you likely looked like a show poodle (at best), Stone will probably rock her perm in the way that you imagined you could. This is likely due to the fact that Stone didn’t get the traditional '80s perm that you're imagining. Instead, she used a technique called a "digital wave." Glamour explains that this is more of a "diluted version of perm solution, whereby a stylist applies it to your hair, then wraps sections of hair around metal rollers," with the outcome being hair that is more casually curled and less dramatic than the signature style associated with the term.

Fans are impatiently waiting to see the final result of Stone’s perm. For now, all we have to speculate from is a photo of her wet hair, which, admittedly, does look more curly.

Who knows? Maybe Stone is about to start a new wave of the perm.

Shonda Rhimes Shut Down the Term ‘Strong Female Lead’ & Twitter Totally Agrees

Television producer and screenwriter Shonda Rhimes has once again blown the internet away with her insight. In the midst of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, several female Hollywood directors started a #FemaleFilmakerFriday trend last week on Twitter that celebrated all of the women behind the scenes who make the movies we rave about. Rhimes is an unbelievably accomplished person herself with her show, Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder and Grey’s Anatomy on ABC’s “TGIT” segment every week.

Rhimes tweeted something today that some may have been thinking about and other still hadn’t realized until she said it. “Okay. Entertainment industry, time to stop using the phrases ‘Smart Strong Women’ and ‘Strong Female Leads’,” she wrote.  “There are no Dumb Weak Women.  A smart strong woman is just a WOMAN.  Also? ‘Women’ are not a TV trend -- we're half the planet.”

With over 38 thousand retweets and 147 thousand likes, it’s clear that Rhimes’ tweet struck a chord with many people.

Thanks to Rhimes, we’ve just taken another step toward recognizing the patriarchal beliefs we’ve absentmindedly accepted and changing the way we treat women in not just the entertainment industry, but all industries.

Canada Is Looking To Make Their National Anthem Gender Neutral & People Are Having Mixed Reactions

Canada’s Senate passed a bill Wednesday to make the country’s national anthem gender neutral and people’s reactions were, predictably, very mixed.

The lyrics originally read: “O Canada! / Our home and native land! / True patriot love in all thy sons command.”

Now, with the change, instead of “in all thy sons command,” it will read “in all of us command.” The changes will not be enacted just yet, as the bill still requires “royal assent” from the governor general. Once it receives that, it will become law.

The change was praised by many Canadians, including the prime minister himself, Justin Trudeau, and the author of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Margaret Atwood. Both took to Twitter to celebrate the passing of the bill that was sponsored by late politician Mauril Bélanger.

Not everyone is happy with the change, and those people also took to Twitter to condemn it for being, among other things, a waste of Senate time.

The bill spent 18 months under debate before it passed on Wednesday, and most of the opposition came from the Conservative Party, who appeared split between wanting no change at all to traditional things and making “real” changes in legislation.

“O Canada” became Canada’s national anthem in 1980, and people have been trying to change the lyrics to it in some way or another since that time.

The Father Of Three Victims Of Larry Nassar Had An Emotional Moment In Court, Asking For 'Five Minutes In A Locked Room' With Him

During Larry Nassar’s sentencing hearing on Friday, Randall Margraves, the father of three of Nassar's victims, lunged at Nassar in court. NPR reports that while Margraves was quickly tackled by deputies in the Michigan courtroom, it’s evident that Margaves was overwhelmed with emotions during his attempted attack.

PEOPLE explains that Nassar was sentenced to 60 years for three counts of sexual assault conduct earlier today at the Eaton County, Michigan courtroom. However, Margaves reportedly also asked the judge during the sentencing, “to grant [him] five minutes alone in a locked room with this demon.” Though to be honest, the term “demon” doesn’t even behind to describe Nassar’s heinous behaviors. (Seeing as he sexually assaulted approximately 265 different people, according to TIME.)

When the judge denied Margaves’ request, he changed his inquiry, “Would you give me one minute?” After his request was denied again, Margaves lurched toward Nassar in an attempt to physically assault him.

Thankfully, deputies stopped him because he could harm Nassar. While Nassar’s crimes are appalling, hurting him won’t serve him any justice (nor will getting charged with physical assault over someone who will probably spend the rest of his life locked up).

Margaves hadn’t heard his daughters’ statements prior to the hearing, so he wasn’t emotionally prepared for his daughters’ victim statements. NBC News reports that when his daughters’ did deliver their impact statements, Margaves saw Nassar shake his head to say “no.” Apparently, Nassar’s denial of his crimes is what ignited Margaves’ rage.

According to CBS News, Judge Janice Cunningham recognized that Margaves was distressed and called for a brief recess (while Margaves was obviously detained so he could calm down), before she continued sentencing the disgraced former USA gymnastics doctor.

Although Nassar is still looking at between 40 and 175 years from his hearing in Ingham for his various sexual crimes, not everyone is convinced he’s guilty (despite his multiple guilty verdicts.)

Baltimore Police Reportedly Carried Toy Guns To Plant On Victims Of Police-Involved Shootings

A Police Baltimore task force has jeopardized thousands of court cases and falsely imprisoned suspects because officers allegedly planted toy guns on suspects, VICE reports.

The Huffington Post reveals that eight members of the Gun Trace Task Force are under criminal investigation after these officers allegedly carried around toy BB guns, which they planned to plant on suspects as a sure-fire way to frame suspects.

HuffPost expounds that a former detective of the task force, Maurice Ward, announced this criminal information during a witness deposition last week. Nevertheless, planting evidence isn’t the only criminal offense these officers face. Members of the task force are also under investigation for stealing approximately $300,000 and various drugs from suspected criminals, per The Washington Post.

Beyond the fact that these alleged crimes are morally messed up, planting objects that resemble guns can cost innocent victims their lives, as this was the case for Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old child who was murdered by a police officer who mistook his toy gun as the real thing.

WJZ 13 explains that thousands of cases could be compromised because these police officers planted these unarmed suspects with toy guns. According to The Post, four victims arrested by the task force have been released from prison, and several other cases are being reviewed by the public defender’s office.

As this investigation, and subsequent appeals, continues, new incriminating information is constantly being unearthed by witnesses. On Thursday, a county bail bondsman revealed that Sgt. Wayne Jenkins the supervisor of the Gun Trace Task Force, asked him to resell stolen drugs from suspects and crime scenes, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The Asbury Park Press, an affiliate of USA Today, reports that police misconduct and other illegal activity has compromised US taxpayers millions of dollars in settlements. Granted, dangerous illegal activity (especially from those we entrust to “serve and protect” the law) shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Hopefully, this ongoing investigation of the Baltimore Gun Trace Task Force will also reopen any past police shootings, so potential victims of police brutality can get the justice they deserve.

5 Self-Healing Hobbies for Busy College Students

$

Everybody deals with stress. Whether it be just the result of school, work, or that cutie from class, even a little bit of stress can cause some serious damage on your mental and physical health. We know—life is busy and we don’t always have the time or money to attend a yoga/meditation class every single day, but there are endless easy, simple and self-healing hobbies you can do even with your jam-packed schedule. If you find yourself exhausted from the whirlwind of life, check out the tips below.

1. Create a “feel good” playlist

It may not seem like much, but good music can have a tremendous effect on your mood and mental health. With so many different types of music streaming applications available, there’s a pre-made playlist for all your confidence-boosting needs. This easy shift is perfect for those of you that don’t have a lot of time to spare. Since listening to music can be done while doing homework, getting ready, eating and showering, it can be easily integrated into your everyday routine.

Stephanie Kao, a junior at Texas A&M University, says she can’t go a day without listening to music. “I always like to start my day off with really up-beat music that will get me energized in the morning,” she says. “I usually use my Spotify or Apple Music to browse playlists that are titled ‘confidence boost’ or ‘Good Vibes.’”

We couldn’t agree more. There’s no better stress-reliever than jamming to the newest hits or even old throwbacks. Everyone can use a dance party occasionally… even if it’s by yourself.

2. Look up fun recipes & make them

If you’re anything like us, your face lightens up with even the slightest mention of food. Everyone needs it; everyone loves it. What more could you ask for? One big way to better your mental and physical health is to recreate healthy meals that you may find online. Not only does this allow for a nice rest, but it also ensures that your body stays healthy as well. After all, it’s not really a “break” if you’re doing something productive, right?

Justine Tu, a senior at the University of Houston, states that this has helped her feel more productive and energized. “I used to always just eat out because it seemed a lot quicker,” she admits. “But once I started cooking my own meals, I didn’t realize how fun it could actually be. I ended up cooking meals with my roommates most of the time and it was the perfect stress-reliever. Also, making balanced meals helped me feel like I was a lot healthier because otherwise I would feel groggy and tired all day.” Making balanced meals is the perfect way to not only spend quality time with friends and family, but to also have a happier stomach!

 3. Do a face mask before you go to bed

Can’t afford an actual spa day? We bet you didn’t know that you could have your very own every single night. Nothing says self-healing like a good old-fashioned face mask. After a long hard day of working and learning, lying in bed with a face mask is the perfect way to end the night. The best part? It doesn’t take up too much of your day. We all know that you’re going to spend the last hour or two on your phone scrolling through social media anyway, so why not look goofy and feel great doing it?

Ameeti Kalra, a junior at the Texas A&M University, says she ends every night with her favorite face mask. “I usually like to put a face mask on right before I shower,” she says. “Since I usually procrastinate my shower by scrolling on my phone anyway, I like to put on a mask to make my skin feel smooth and clean. It’s the best way to end the day because it’s so easy and so relaxing. I feel like many people don’t realize the wonders it can do for your skin!” Now that’s a dedicated advocate. Don’t worry, you and your roommates are the only ones that will ever see you with a bright blue mask on!

4. Go for a quick jog

We know—cliché, right? I think we’ve all seen the endless chick flicks of successful and productive young women and men starting their day off with an early morning jog. However, there’s probably a reason why they do it. Jogging or even walking around for a couple of minutes is a great way to relieve stress. Not only do you get to let out all your vent up emotions, but it also gives you time to relax. With all the time we spend in the same chair staring at the same computer screen, our minds will probably start to drive themselves insane. It’s also good for your physical health to get a little bit of exercise in every day. We know, exercise is hard, but you don’t have to be a gym expert to get your healthy dose of it. Going for a quick run or jog would only take up a maximum of 30 minutes and you’ll be sure to feel a world of a difference. Not to mention, it will definitely get your step count up on your activity tracker!

Isabelle Huynh, a junior at the Texas State University, states that this worked perfectly for her. “I am by no means a runner,” she says. “I hated running but I recently got into it because I found that sitting for long periods of time would actually exhaust me more. Even though I just do a light jog, getting that fresh air definitely gets me more energized.” So, tune into your favorite songs and get outside!

5. Cheer yourself on

One of the most important ways to improve self-health is to have the right mindset. Especially when in a college setting, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s important. Take a moment to relax and remind yourself of all the good things that are in your life. By taking a moment to reflect on yourself and your goals, you’ll be able to bring your own mood up. At the end of the day, what you think of yourself is what matters the most. Don’t forget that cheering yourself on sometimes could be even more effective than the loudest set of cheerleaders.

Hoan Le, a senior at the University of Texas at Dallas, couldn’t agree more. “It’s always important to have a positive outlook,” she says. “A lot of times I feel like we are our own worst critics and that could really bring us down. It’s always good to take a moment to remind yourself that you’re doing great.” You’re doing amazing, sweetie!

There are plenty of ways that you can improve your self-health without even noticing it. Most of the time, they can actually end up being super fun. We know—life can be exhausting, but don’t forget to always make sure that you’re taking care of yourself. We’re all cheering for you!

5 Reasons You Are Experiencing Senioritis

$

The time of year has officially hit in which many of us are catching the disease formally known as ‘senioritis.’ Symptoms include procrastination, desire for sleep, lost or increased appetite and extreme stress. Senioritis does not just appear because you are in your senior year. There are many different reasons why you could be experiencing these symptoms. So take some time to reflect, and take that shot of “you’ve-got-this” to keep moving forward!

1. Your workload

One obvious reason you are experiencing senioritis is the amount of work that you have to complete. At this point you are probably enrolled in your core major requirements, working multiple jobs, thinking about a potential thesis—and let’s not forget those extracurriculars. No wonder you want to procrastinate. It is exhausting thinking about all that you have to do.

Tara Cappellucci, a senior at Framingham State University, recommends working on time management. “I always tell other people if I have something school or work related later," she says. "I tend to be forgetful, so my friends are able to remind me if I do." There are also all different types of planners and organizational tools that you can use to keep yourself and your work together.

2. You have fear of missing out

It’s Thursday night and everyone is getting dressed up and ready for a night out. They ask you to come and you keep having to say no because Assignment A is due tomorrow and Exam 3 is next week. But instead of actually being productive while everyone else is having fun not worrying about their responsibilities, you just sit in your room scrolling through Instagram and await drunken Snapchats from your roommates. You wish you there with them, but you’re not. Domini Batista, a junior at Framingham State University, says, “I tell myself that there is time for me when in reality there isn’t any.”

Solution

Ensure that you set time aside for yourself and for the people you want to spend time with. It can be difficult, but knowing that you will be seeing them soon will be a reminder that you don’t have anything to be afraid of missing. You will be with them soon enough.

3. You haven't mastered the art of adulting

AKA your least favorite word. You keep worrying about the inevitable post-grad life and what it means to actually be an adult. Your parents tell you to start paying your own bills. You see your peers all starting to get their own apartments, finding their dream jobs and getting engaged. You can’t even fathom how they know what to do next.

Solution

Talk to a professional. There are many accessible on-campus resources that could help you—whether it’s a career counselor, school psychologist or someone in residence life who has information about nearby apartment listings. There are always people around who are willing to listen and point you in the right direction.

4. You aren't satisfied with your relationships

You’re still single. Or you don’t know where you and your significant other stand after graduation. Your friends are moving on to bigger and better things. Your family keeps pressuring you to make decisions about what is going to happen to you within the next few dreaded months. It feels as if all of those important people in your life are nowhere near where you want or need them to be. You feel alone and that’s okay. You will always have people in your life but learning how to be independent can be a game changer as well.

Solution

Talk to the people in your life. Communication is a necessity for all relationships and not everyone is willing to make the first step towards improvement. Taking the time to reach out to others can benefit your relationship, or at least let you know where you stand with them.

5. You don't have much time left

You can see the light at the end of the tunnel. You are so close to being done that you just can’t even anymore. All of your hard work has been paying off and you have just about earned that expensive piece of paper that you will say is your degree. Maddie Alper, a senior at Framingham State University, says, “Knowing how close I am to putting on that cap and gown and being done with the undergrad work is really taunting to me, and every senior I know.” You’ve had fun, fallen in love, cried over things you know won’t be important in the future, napped when you shouldn’t have and gotten through the terror that is finals week time and time again. You’ve done it all and you are ready to do so much more.

All of these things just mean that you are in the same position as everyone else. Even if you can’t sing along to Taylor Swift and feel 22, you have still completed an education that has shaped you into the person you are today. Don’t let senioritis get the best of you.

The Spice Girls Say That They're Exploring 'New Opportunities Together'& I'm Dying

When it comes to nostalgia in the music world, 2018 has already been quite good to us. The Jonas Brothers reactivated their Instagram account last month, fueling major rumors of the brothers potentially reuniting as a band. Now we may have another iconic group coming together to look forward to. Hello Giggles reports that, after posting group photos online recently, the Spice Girls have hinted that they're discussing how to work together again. Excuse me while I blast "Wannabe" in celebration.

The '90s girl squad originally split in 2000, reuniting for a world tour in 2007 and later performing together at the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. Since then, Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Emma Bunton, Mel C and Geri Halliwell have worked on their own separate endeavors. We've had over five years of being limited to our throwback playlists for a Spice Girls fix, which is why the women's pictures of their hangout were so great. All five of the women shared the same group photo, and Beckham even posted a picture of them with their old manager Simon Fuller

Love my girls!!! So many kisses!!! X Exciting x #friendshipneverends #girlpower

A post shared by Victoria Beckham (@victoriabeckham) on

The reunion pics alone were enough to excite me, but the group exceeded expectations with what came next. Releasing an official statement through the Spice Girls social media accounts, the women wrote to fans, "We are always overwhelmed at how much interest there is across the whole world for The Spice Girls. The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together."

The statement also pointed out what may go unnoticed when we reminisce about the band. The Spice Girls were an OG example of a empowering group of young women that was inspired to help girls value themselves and their female friendships. "We all agree that there are many exciting possibilities that will once again embrace the original essence of The Spice Girls," the message said, "while reinforcing our message of female empowerment for future generations."

While the idea of the group performing new music thrills me, their upcoming work may not match fans' assumptions of what's in store. Entertainment Weekly reports that British newspaper The Sun called the women's afternoon together a "secret meeting" and that they discussed the possibility of "TV projects in China, a new telly talent show, endorsement deals and a compilation album celebrating their greatest hits." Basically, if the source is trustworthy, it sounds like this reunion is more of the creation of a Spice Girls empire, which still sounds awesome.

No matter what may come into fruition, it's just amazing to know that the Spice Girls are still here to remind us that "friendship never ends."

How to Stop Spending All Your Money Without Cutting Back on Fun

Whether you're a beauty lover, fashion fanatic, book nerd, foodie or organization junkie, you can always find something to spend money on. But then you get to the end of the month and see that all your dough is gone. Whether you have a spending problem that is a few dollars over your budget or leaving you with a bank account balance of $0, cutting back is never easy. Here is how you can have it all and actually end up saving money.

Assess your situation and create a budget

Ready to start adulting? The first step is simple: spend less than you earn. Not ready to crunch the numbers? Luckily, smart people have created ways we can make a budget without being a mathematician. Mintis a popular app for budgeting and tells you exactly where your money is going. It also helps you create a budget and decide where you will spend your earnings. If you aren’t a fan of online apps, track your spending by hand in a journal.

When it's time to create a budget, you’ll want to do the same thing you did before and look at how much you earn and have to spend each month. Next, think about what you need and don’t need. How much money will you spend on groceries and how much for takeout? Allocate an estimate of how much you should spend to each. That’s your bare bones budget.

However, we aren’t suggesting you strip away all the joys of life. Give yourself a monthly “treat yo’self” budget. Maybe it’s for a manicure or a book you’ve been dying to buy. Remember to stick to whatever you set. If you really want something, but it’s too expensive for your monthly budget, wait until your “treat yo’self” budgets add up to buy that thing.

Also, if you’re a professional woman, be sure to instill a coffee or lunch budget for business meetings and networking. But don’t forget to give yourself some wiggle room! A cushion in your budget will allow you to splurge in case of emergency.

Use envelopes

Invest in some plastic envelopes and label them with the same categories you made within your budget. Then, take cash out of your account each week or month and place the correct amount in each envelope that you plan to spend. This way you can have a visual of how much you’ll be spending and won’t have the chance to pull out your card to pay for extras.

Print it out

So envelopes aren’t your thing? Find some cute and fun print outs online for free that will help you organize your spending categories. It can also be a good idea to place these within a binder so everything is in one place and you can reference past budgets if you need.

Recognize what your triggers are

Can’t resist a killer sale? We know the feeling. But once you recognize that sales are a weak point for you, it’s easy to say no. Bring a list to the store when you go shopping and aim to come under budget. Maybe you head to your favorite store in the mall when you’ve had a bad day. And while retail therapy gives you a boost for a moment, turning to spending to feel better can really take a toll on your budget.

The idea of saving is a tempting one, but no matter how much you save when you buy something remember that you are always spending money. And it’s a good idea to avoid spending if you didn’t plan it out beforehand. Whatever your triggers are, identify them and guard against spending for those reasons. Once you know what they are, make a decision to never spend for those reasons. You’ll be surprised by how much you can save.

Explore budget friendly options

Sometimes we just can’t give up those little luxuries. For example, a lot of us love our morning coffee. While going out for coffee is essential for certain occasions, grabbing your favorite latte every day does not make for a happy budget. Instead, opt to make your own coffee at home.

Whatever it is that you love that is slowly eating away at your budget, find a way to keep the luxury in your life through a more affordable option. Little by little you’ll save more than you ever thought was possible.

Beware of credit cards

They’re great for emergencies and building credit, but not so great for random purchases. Once you learn how to work with a credit card account responsibly, you can use it to become a financially responsible adult. But remember the budget thing. Spend ONLY what you have set aside, and refrain from using money that you don’t actually have. It may feel good in the moment, but it’s never fun to spend money on credit card bills later down the road.

Don’t be too hard on yourself

Yes, you have goals you want to stick to and they require discipline. But if you mess up and go over budget one month, don’t beat yourself up. Simply aim to stick to them next month with a bit more resolve. Ask yourself what caused you to go over budget. Was it reasonable or did you give in to one of your triggers? Whatever the case, remember adulting is hard but also totally doable. All it takes is a little organization.

If all else fails, just watch Confessions of a Shopaholic. No one wants to be like Rebecca Bloomwood begging a hot dog vendor for money to buy the “perfect” scarf. It’ll give you just enough motivation to truly change your ways and become a financially responsible adult.

The Largest Amount of Scientists in U.S. Modern History Are Running for Office in 2018

Among various other neglected topics in the current federal administration, breaking concerns in the science and technology fields are often not addressed properly. With only one Ph.D. scientist currently in Congress, more government officials with scientific backgrounds would probably benefit us all in the long run. Luckily, in the near future, we may see more of these people. HuffPost reports that more than 60 researchers and technologists are running for federal office in 2018, while at least 200 people with backgrounds in the STEM industry plan to run for state legislature positions this year. These figures mark the largest number of scientists to campaign for public office in modern history.

The data comes from political action committee 314 Action, which is led by STEM employees and political activists "committed to electing more STEM candidates to office, advocating for evidence-based policy to issues like climate change and fighting the Trump administration's attacks on science." The nearly four-year-old group has also reportedly encouraged 200 other people to run for school board boards. The movement's goal is to elect more scientists to join physicist and Democratic Rep. Bill Foster in Congress.

Now publicly endorsing 16 candidates for the House of Representatives, 314 Action has most recently announced its support of Brian Forde, who served as a senior technology adviser during President Barack Obama's tenure. Forde aims to defeat Republican Rep. Mimi Walters, who often votes against climate change legislation while representing California's 45th Congressional District.

Under the leadership of 314 Action founder Shaughnessy Naughton, the group raised $2 million in 2017 and strives to earn $5 to 7 million during the upcoming election campaign. Speaking to HuffPost, Naughton said of the endorsed candidates, "These are not people that envision themselves as politicians and build a resumé around that. These are people that are genuinely outraged and concerned by the direction the country is going in, especially in this administration and this Congress. It seems that time has really come."

With so many college students pursuing careers in science, we're thrilled to see that their professional predecessors are working hard to inspire them in their future goals.

2. Easy A(2010)

As the ever-sassy and hilarious Olive Penderghast, Emma Stone reminds us why we love her so much. It's The Scarlet Letter for the 21st century (but, unlike in your English class, you'll actually pay attention this time around!).

Clueless isn't just a '90s chick flick; it's the'90s chick flick. Fabulous outfits? Check. Witty dialogue? Check. Adorable, young Paul Rudd? Check.

4. Breakfast at Tiffany's(1961)

When all else fails, we can always turn to this classic Audrey Hepburn film that makes us want to be a glamorous New York City socialite.

Memorable quote: "Get over here."

7. Pitch Perfect(2012)

Everything about the movie is an ultimate mood-booster! It’s the perfect blend of funny and heartwarming.

7 Myths About Religiously Affiliated Colleges You Shouldn't Believe

When it comes to applying to colleges, it may be intimidating to apply to religious-based schools. Over the years, you’ve probably heard family and/or friends tell you about crazy myths that go along with religious universities. These myths may include stories such as you can’t have any fun, there are a lot of rules, and you must be a certain religion to attend a certain school. We’re here to tell you that those stories and just what they are—stories.

When deciding on a college to attend, it’s important to base your decision on more than just crazy myths that you think might be true. Base your college decision on whether you like the class sizes, the campus, the food, the professors and even the students on campus. Here are seven myths about religiously affiliated colleges that you just definitely shouldn’t believe.

1. Religious colleges have too many rules

Rules? What rules? This is probably one of the biggest myths related to religious colleges. Yes, some of them are private and religion-based schools and have some rules, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t fun. All college students know how to have fun and that doesn’t change anywhere you go.

Sure, there may be rules about curfews and sneaking boys into the dorm, but you can create your own fun outside of the rules. Get off campus on the weekends and enjoy the city your school is in or have a movie night with some girlfriends. College is supposed to be the best time in your life, collegiettes. You shouldn’t waste your four years sitting inside doing nothing!

Katherine Gleaton, senior at Presbyterian College, says that her college is just like any other school and that insane rules don't really exist. "PC has no liquor or glass bottles or tobacco on campus," Katherine says. "Religiously, it's not strict and you can do what you want. It's just like any other school."

That being said, don't decide against a religious college because you think they have insanely strict rules. They're still colleges that give you a wonderful education, pre-collegiettes.

2. You only go to a religiously affiliated college if you’re going to become a priest/rabbi/theologian/etc.

Just because you are attending a religious college doesn’t mean you to have to study religion.

There are plenty of 18-year-olds who attend religious colleges and are studying to become whatever they want. Every religious college has a variety of majors from education, to business, to journalism, to performing arts. Don’t listen to the stereotype. Many students attend religious colleges because the student body and campus appeals to them!

3. Religious colleges are either all-women or all-men

This is so far from the truth. While there are some all-women colleges and all-men colleges still out there, a lot of religious colleges are coed ––this is the 21st century after all. If you think that you’re supposed to act super conservative in class and around campus, don’t worry, ladies. You will definitely see boys around campus and you can treat them just as you would at a normal college.

Related: 5 Myths About State Schools You Shouldn't Believe

4. You won’t get the “real college experience”

If you think that the “real college experience” includes sex, drinking and drugs, then you might need to reevaluate what a college experience actually is. Yes, those things are a part of college life, but a real college experience isn’t solely about those things. Your college experience should include getting involved with campus organizations, attending sporting events, making friends in the dining hall and pulling a few all-nighters.

No matter where you go, every college student has the same experience of being a full-time student. Attending a religiously affiliated college does not define your college experience. You make your own experiences!

5. If you attend a religious college, you must be conservative

As stereotypical as this is, this isn’t true. Religiously affiliated colleges all over the world accept all kinds of students from different races and political views. The great thing about college is that you are exposed to a myriad of different people. Yes, religious colleges tend to be more conservative, but you are still allowed to express your own beliefs at that college. This is America, after all! Nobody is forcing you to change your political views in college.

Sara Walden Hanna, an alumna of Presbyterian College, says that before she attended her college, she thought that all the students would be the same. “To my surprise and delight, I found that the students at PC were some of the most diverse, unique and wonderful people I had ever met,” Sara says.

“I made friends from other countries with different cultures and customs. My school is extraordinarily accepting and it taught me so much about friendship, family, and community. These qualities helped me, as a Christian, become stronger in my faith.”

Diversity at a religious-based college is amazing! You expand your knowledge and meet more people. The more the better, right?

6. It’s mandatory that you attend services all the time

There are religious events that are held on campus, but these events are never mandatory.

Sammy Martin, a junior at Emmanuel College, says when she started her time at a Catholic college, she was afraid she was going to be forced to go to mass all the time. Sammy says that this is far from the truth and that they’re welcoming of students of all faiths.

“I've actually chosen to attend some of them [even though] I am not Catholic,” Sammy says. “I've also come to appreciate the prayers said before some of our traditional events, such as the Senior Cap and Gown ceremony at the beginning of senior year.” Sammy is glad she made the choice to attend Emmanuel. Even though she isn’t a very religious person and attends a Catholic school, she says that she’s comfortable there and doesn’t feel like the odd one out.

At some religious-based colleges, you’ll probably have to attend events on campus. But just remember, there is more to your college than these events!

7. Female college students only attend a religious college to look for a spouse

This myth is definitely not true. While many couples are fortunate enough to meet in college, female students have other focuses and responsibilities in school than looking for a husband. Since many people believe that you are looking for a "MRS degree," ignore that theory and do what makes you happy.

Believe it or not, many female students want to receive a degree to get an insanely successful job after college. Collegiettes, don’t let this myth and stereotype scare you out of attending a wonderful university that will give you a fabulous education.

Yes, there are some myths out there that might try and sway your decision about attending a religious college, but just remember that they aren’t true. You should choose a college based on what you like and what makes you feel the most at home. Good luck, collegiettes!
