Roxane Gay Called Out The Midwest Writers Workshop For Fatphobia On Twitter

In the era of #MeToo and powerful men being knocked down left and right for sexual misconduct, you’d think stories of women being mistreated would slowly stop churning out, but nonetheless they keep emerging.

The Midwest Writers Workshop, an organization that, according to their mission statement, exists “to nurture aspiring and accomplished writers to improve their craft and to achieve their publishing goals in a welcoming community,” is the most recent organization to come under fire for inappropriate workplace misconduct. Roxane Gay, an established writer and former faculty member of the Workshop, took to her own Twitter account Wednesday morning to call out the organizational committee of the workshop for their tasteless remarks aimed at another longtime member.

The incident dates back to last fall when writer Sarah Hollowell, a member of the Midwest Writers Workshop, who worked with them for five years was on the ballot to be considered for the workshop's organizational committee. During the meeting to discuss the possibility of her new position, a member of the committee reportedly called into question Hollowell’s appearance as justification for why she might not be a good fit. The member reportedly stated, “Do we really want someone like her representing us? She then elaborated into saying, “someone so fat. It’s disgusting.”

Gay’s Twitter thread outlining the incident is below:

In response to Gay’s Twitter thread, Jama Kehoe Bigger, the director of the Midwest Writers Workshop, released a statement on the official Facebook page on Wednesday morning, apologizing for how Hollowell was treated, explaining their side of the story and their reasoning for not taking immediate action when the incident occurred last fall.

"At Midwest Writers, we have long believed in treating everyone with kindness, decency, and respect. This truth is why it pains me as director of this organization to acknowledge that we screwed up. That I screwed up," Bigger wrote. "We screwed up in a way that has landed Midwest Writers in the middle of a social media maelstrom and we owe all of our friends, faculty and alumni an explanation."

Bigger wrote that, during the executive planning committee meeting, a conversation was held about inviting new members and that's when the insensitive comment detailed in Gay's thread was made.

"During that conversation, a committee member made an insensitive comment about Sarah. One I knew was flawed, but did not believe was an accurate representation of her true feelings about Sarah or this committee member’s longstanding commitment to inclusivity and diversity at our workshop," Bigger said. "In that moment, I accepted the apology she made. I also chose to move the group by casting an informal vote inviting Sarah to join our committee. The unanimous answer from everyone, including this chagrined committee member, was yes. My mistakes that afternoon were in not formalizing that vote, deciding to postpone adding all new members suggested, and in not taking further immediate action to address the misgivings caused by what was said in the room that day. This I should have done not just with every member of the committee, but with Sarah personally."

Bigger added that while she "cannot change the judgment call [she] made that afternoon," she is committed to examining the situation critically and looking to "make things right" with Hollowell and her community of writers. She writes that the member who made the comment has been fired from the executive committee and that she plans to meet with the board to consider her own standing.

"As we work address this matter swiftly, I ask our faculty, friends and alumni to understand that the mistakes that were made do not change Midwest Writers’s core mission to welcome everyone—attendees and faculty alike—to our conference and as members of our committee. And by everyone, I mean all people, regardless of their weight or appearance, gender or sexual preference, age, race, or whether they show up in the same model of wheelchair in which I sit," the statement concludes. "Please consider what you have known of us for these past 45 years. We have operated from an open-arms policy for more than four decades now and we have no intention of turning back from that any time soon."

The incident and response by both Gay and Midwest Writers was a lot to take in for a Wednesday morning, so Hollowell, who was at the center of it all, took to Twitter to address the issue. She tweeted that while she was not sure how she was going to respond just yet, she felt Midwest Writer’s apology was a good start.

Regardless of what apology was issued, living in a culture that only punishes fatphobia and blatant prejudice when caught (and publicly shamed, called-out), is inadmissible and is something that we should no longer accept as normal or okay.

5 Moments From This Week’s ‘This Is Us’ That Made My Heart Break

Throughout the first half of Season 2 of This Is Us, we saw hints of a lifelong distance between Kevin and Rebecca. Blame it on the fact that Rebecca seems to spout monologues about her adoration of Randall on a weekly basis, or consider how Kate idolizes her father to the point of watching football games with his ashes, but we could all tell that Kevin was a lone wolf in the family. In“Number One,” audiences saw teenage Kevin clash severely with his parents, but this week’s episode, “The Fifth Wheel,” dropped the bombshell that Kevin had felt like an extreme outsider for his entire life.

Following that shocking ending of “Number Three" (my heart is still recovering), the Pearsons in the present day made the trek to Kevin’s rehab center for a group therapy session. What began as a rather lighthearted visit quickly turned solemn when only Rebecca, Randall and Kate were invited to join Kevin and his therapist. Not only did this leave the awkward trio of Beth, Miguel and Toby to bond, the situation put the OG Pearsons in an isolated place without reminders of their current lives. You know how no matter how old you are, you always revert to being 12 years old when you’re at your childhood home? In this therapy session, the Big Three are mature versions of their younger selves, stuck in a room with their mother. They have no partners or children around. All that’s missing in this moment is Jack.

This Is Us managed to produce an episode where the intense family therapy was its highlight but not its only important scene. While I’ll never stop campaigning for Mandy Moore’s Emmy nomination, the cast as a whole played with my emotions like a fiddle. Once you’ve calmed down and thrown out your tissues from Tuesday night, remind yourself of these five particular moments that made my heart break.

1. Randall and Rebecca’s responses to the therapist’s suggestion of talking about Jack

Ever since we learned about the extent of Kevin’s struggle with addiction, I’ve wondered how Rebecca would respond to it. She obviously went through emotional turmoil dealing with Jack’s alcoholism, and it didn’t occur to her that her son would have a similar experience. When Kevin’s therapist gently brought up discussing Jack and his imperfection, Rebecca’s face almost turned stony. Randall, who usually seems the most accepting about Jack’s death, also showed weakness, saying in a small voice, “Oh, God, do we have to?” The moment proved that no one fully recovered from the loss of Jack, even the family members who appear the most adjusted.

2. Miguel’s defense of Jack when Beth complained they can never live up to him

Admit it, you were a little skeptical about Miguel, Toby and Beth being left alone together while the Pearsons had their session. A weird part of me keeps thinking Miguel will turn into a character like Parks and Recreation’s Jerry, but then I remember I’m not watching a sitcom. But given the lack of depth we’ve seen from Miguel so far, it’s not surprising that I felt this way. The new Big Three’s bonding moment changed that when a slightly tipsy Beth spoke about the Pearson spouses never being able to break past the original family’s tight bond. When she talked about Jack being untouchable and the spouses’ inability to live up to him, Miguel stepped in, telling her, “Easy, now you’re in my no-fly zone.”

Later, he said of the triplets and Rebecca, “Those four lived through something… the loss of the best man anyone of us would ever know, That’s why they get to be on the inside.” You may be unsure of Miguel because, after all, he did marry his best friend’s wife, but he is still fiercely loyal to Jack. His brief moments in this episode also gave us insight into how he lived with the Pearsons for the past decade — in a way, he was always like the friend visiting them, with a polite wall of security between him and the others.

3. Kevin telling his family that he always felt like the fifth wheel

“Number One” introduced the concept of Kevin never feeling enough for his father, but this week, those feelings intensified with his admission that he always felt like his family’s outsider. Randall and Rebecca were always very protective of each other, while Kate and Jack had their own special bond. As a teenager, Kevin seemed to never need his family because he was busy with his girlfriend and football. In actuality, his big achievements in sports and acting were used to drown out his insecurities. Perhaps it was the need to feel more connected to his family, but the therapy talk shifted into Kevin suggesting that Kate is also an addict. Interestingly, Kate lashed out at the therapist rather than Kevin in response, emphasizing Beth’s point about the Pearsons’ bond being so complex.

4. Rebecca calling out the therapist for zoning in on Jack’s addiction...

Guys, Mandy Moore is just killing it this season. I thought she had reached her episode peak in the shot of Rebecca crying quietly as she rocked back and forth, but that was only the beginning. She was never totally onboard with the family therapy, so her reluctance added to her defensive nature. Rebecca refused to let the therapist emphasize the flaws of the kids’ childhoods, sharing that she never had a (perhaps needed) conversation with the Big Three about Jack’s addiction. Who can say if that was the right thing to do when their father passed before they even finished high school? Either way, Rebecca saying that Jack was so much more than an addict felt universal, telling viewers that their worst flaws don’t define them.

5. ...and her revealing that Randall was "easier" than Kevin was.

The conversation started with a shaky but solid Rebecca defending Jack's legacy, but it quickly flew out of control. Kevin's temper began to boil over, and as a result, Rebecca finally cracked, revealing that Kevin's distance was greatly felt. We even found out that he moved away soon after Jack died, hinting that this was when he left for California. In his absence, Randall filled in as Rebecca's comforter, which explained so much about the kids' adult relationships with their mom. If a lump didn't form in your throat when Rebecca blew up, we can't be friends.

The show's return was a perfect dose of humor and heartache, and next week may be similar. Thumbs up for baby steps toward showing us that Miguel is human!

The Weeknd Just Blasted H&M Over A Racist 'Monkey' Sweatshirt

Global retailer H&M is under major fire after releasing photos with some clearly racist messaging. H&M advertised their new kids sweatshirts this past weekend on their British website, showing three of photos of child models in differing sweatshirts. However, the brand made a really wrong move when they decided to put a black child model in the “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle” sweatshirt, while a white model got to wear the “Official Survival Expert” sweatshirt.

The black community has a long, horrific history of being called derogatory names like “monkey” and “ape,” so seeing this child in a sweatshirt labeled as a "cool monkey" is clearly offensive and disrespectful. The ad struck a chord with many, including hit R&B singer The Weeknd. Abel Tesfaye, popularly known as The Weeknd, took to Twitter to express his outrage at the H&M ad and announce that he planned to end his partnership with the international fashion brand.

Yesterday, H&M issued an official public apology on their Twitter page, acknowledging the mistake and promising to do better in the future.

Her Campus reached out to H&M for further comment and heard back with the following response:

"Our position is simple and unequivocal – we have got this wrong and we are deeply sorry. H&M is fully committed to playing its part in addressing society’s issues and problems, whether it’s diversity, working conditions or environmental protection – and many others," an H&M rep explained. "Our standards are high and we feel that we have made real progress over the years in playing our part in promoting diversity and inclusion. But we clearly haven’t come far enough."

"This incident is accidental in nature, but this doesn’t mean we don’t take it extremely seriously or understand the upset and discomfort it has caused. We will now be doing everything we possibly can to prevent this from happening again in future. Racism and bias in any shape or form, conscious or unconscious, deliberate or accidental, are simply unacceptable and need to be eradicated from society. In this instance, we have not been sensitive enough to this agenda. Please accept our humble apologies."

While H&M asserts that any racist imagery was unintentional, they own up to the discrepancy and fully believe that racism in any form is wrong. It's a new year, and that means no more insensitive mistakes. H&M has had a great inclusion of diversity in their models in the past few years, so seeing this sweatshirt was a shock to many. We're confident that H&M has learned from this incident and will make strong efforts to build an even more diverse and culturally sensitive fashion brand in the future.

Okay, Don't Panic, But Diet Coke Is Getting A Make-Over For The New Year

It was announced Wednesday that Coca-Cola is rolling out a “modernized Diet Coke,” as Business Insiderreported. With the new flavors, there's some new packaging and a new ad campaign for the much-adored beverage. But don’t worry. The classic Diet Coke isn’t going anywhere.

Four new flavors are joining the original though: Ginger Lime, Feisty Cherry, Zesty Blood Orange, and Twisted Mango.

Coca-Cola has reportedly been working on this release for two years now. The company tested over 30 flavors of Diet Coke. They even spoke to more than 10,000 people across the country for more input.

The company is releasing this revamp after its diet soda sales have dropped significantly (34 percent) since 2005.

“Diet CSD [carbonated soft drinks] sales were supposed to be the solution to the industry’s calorie dilemma,” said Monica Kvamme, a consultant at Zenith Global Ltd. “But, that was short-lived, as diet sales peaked in 2005 and have been falling ever since.”

But after 35 years, Coca-Cola thought they’d try something new.

“Throughout this relaunch journey, we wanted to be bold, think differently and be innovative in our approach,” said Rafael Acevedo, Coca-Cola North America’s group director for Diet Coke in a statement. “And most importantly, we wanted to stay true to the essence of Diet Coke while recasting the brand for a new generation.”

And Twitter users have mixed opinions.

Diet Coke and the new flavors will be sold in 12-oz. cans in eight-packs. Diet Coke, though, will remain in all of its existing packaging sizes.

New flavors and packaging will be at stores this month.

The beauty industry has evolved so much within the past decade; it’s hard to keep up with all the wonderful products that our favorite brands release! But one thing we tend to forget is that many beauty brands tend to cater toward one demographic, rather than try to appeal to beauty lovers of all kinds. Luckily, many talented women of color took matters into their own hands and pioneered their own booming beauty businesses, focusing on delivering superior quality beauty products for every kind of woman in America. Whether you fall into the majority or the minority, these seven bomb beauty brands owned by women of color are sure to level up your own beauty routine.

1. Fenty Beauty by Rihanna

When R&B queen, Rihanna, announced that she was releasing her own cosmetics line, Fenty Beauty, Rihanna fans and makeup lovers alike were jumping for joy. In a matter of weeks, Fenty Beauty became one of the most popular luxury makeup brands on the market, but it wasn’t just Rihanna’s famous name that won us over. Rihanna made her brand complexion-focused, ensuring that her products flattered all kinds of skin tones. “The biggest challenge was making sure that each product covered all skin tones, and it was a challenge I was up for,” Rihanna says in an interview with BAZAAR magazine. “I didn’t care how long it took, I was going to make sure that we covered most skin tones. Diversity and inclusiveness are important to the brand”.

Rihanna knows the dilemma that many women of color like herself face when trying to find the perfect foundation, so she launched 40 unique foundation shades that could perfectly match a wide range of skin complexions. Rihanna also recently released a line of lipsticks that could suit a variety of skin tones. With this huge a variety of luxurious foundations, lipsticks, and more, Fenty Beauty is sure to make any woman slay as flawlessly as the Bad Gurl herself.

2. The Lip Bar by Melissa Butler

A unique and bold lipstick that can perfectly suit darker skin tones and lighter skin tones alike? Yes, please! African American founder of The Lip Bar, Melissa Butler had the firsthand struggle of finding a one-of-a-kind lipstick that suited her darker complexion. Like many women with dark skin, Butler found that many of the market’s mainstream lipsticks tended to wash her out or give her lips an ashy look.

And despite being shot down on ‘Shark Tank’ as a contestant back in 2015, Butler designed her own sick lipstick brand. The Lip Bar includes a variety of vegan, cruelty-free lipsticks, some in bolder colors like vibrant violets and gorgeous greens, all with the right undertones to suit women of various skin tones. Butler’s perseverance as a woman of color with a bright idea that mighty Shark Tank judges looked down upon makes this brand seem more badass than we thought! So, check out The Lip Bar for fierce lip colors that will be sure to wow!

3. SLMD Skincare by Dr. Sandra Lee aka Dr. Pimple Popper

Inspired by her patients’ struggles to find accessible, effective skincare, Chinese-American dermatologist, Dr. Sandra Lee, designed her own line of skincare products known SLMD Skincare. “[SLMD skincare] is about creating effective treatment options for the most common skin conditions and making them available to the vast majority of the world who are unable to see a dermatologist and get the proper treatment for a skin condition that causes [them] discomfort, frustration, and / or embarrassment and shame,” Dr. Lee says.

As a woman of Asian descent, Dr. Lee learned a lot about the attitudes toward her expertise in the beauty and medical realms, which assisted her on her journey to create SLMD skincare. “As a dermatologist and surgeon, I’ve never felt held back or regarded to a lesser degree because of my ethnicity or my sex. [But] if I’m running errands about town and I’m still in my surgical scrubs, strangers will ask me what doctor I work for, not usually assuming that I myself may actually BE the physician…I think this is assumed because I’m an Asian and a woman. [Despite this], I suspect that being Asian and being female actually benefits me and boosts my business as a dermatologist on social media and the beauty industry.”

Dr. Lee tries to not only to bring people with different skin types effective skin solutions but also a thorough education about their skin and a sense of empowerment. Since SLMD products keep all these factors in mind and only use the necessary dermatologist-recommended ingredients to fight acne and brighten the skin, there are tons of reasons to try to better your skin’s condition with this simple, healthy skincare line.

4. Besame Cosmetics by Gabriela Hernandez

If you’re up for a fun, vintage twist to your beauty regimen, then look no further than Besame Cosmetics! Founded by Argentinian color connoisseur, Gabriela Hernandez, Besame (which means “Kiss Me” in Spanish) is a beauty line inspired by the cosmetics women used in the 1920s and 1930s. Hernandez was inspired by her own grandmother’s beauty regimen and she decided to build upon that and create a unique makeup experience that takes you back to simpler times.

From classic red lipsticks, to radiant face powders, Besame Cosmetics takes all the lovely charms of early 1900s beauty and repackages them into staple modern cosmetics we can use today. Hernandez focuses on creating simple makeup products that could flatter all skin tones, which means that her blushes and lipsticks can flatter paler complexions, darker complexions, and everything in between. From the fancy old-fashioned packaging to the 1900s inspired colors, Besame Cosmetics makes putting on makeup feel like one of the most luxurious experiences in your daily routine.

5. Dermovia: Lace Your Face by Anita Sun

We all love a good spa day, but when life gets busy, a nice breather is hard to come by. Asian-American Medical Esthetician, Anita Sun, didn’t believe it had to be that way though. Sun’s Dermovia: Lace Your Face masks are made of flexible material which latches onto the natural contours of your face comfortably, so you can go on with your day while thoroughly moisturizing and relaxing your skin!

“[Dermovia’s] Lace Your Face collection of masks target various skin concerns and helps to boost hydration in all skin types,” Sun tells us. “The goal of these products is to keep your skin healthy and strong,”. As a woman of color, Sun says she’s actually had a mostly positive experience breaking into the beauty industry with her Dermovia brand.

“I think that many retailers and customers support diversity in the marketplace and they take well to businesses that are started by different ethnic groups,” says Sun. “In the beauty industry, I realized that being of Asian descent was beneficial since most other ethnic groups recognize that Asian women are taught at a young age the importance of skincare and protecting the skin from sun damage. Because of this, people may be more willing to learn the secrets of good skin based on my cultural heritage.” If these Dermovia: Lace Your Face masks are half as refreshing as that perspective, we definitely recommend trying them out!

6. Huda Beauty by Huda Kattan

A household name in all makeup conversations, Huda Beauty is one of the hottest makeup brands around! Huda Beauty was founded by Iraqi-American makeup master and YouTuber, Huda Kattan. Starting off as a finance major, Kattan was always drawn to the makeup world and she began to share her own tips and tricks for looking fabulous on her blog and YouTube channel. From there she realized the kinds of products she wanted on the makeup market and soon enough Huda Beauty was born.

The Dubai-based brand launched with dramatic false lashes then eventually expanded to luxurious foundations, eyeshadow palettes, highlighters and lipsticks, all carefully crafted by Kattan herself. As an Iraqi-American woman, Kattan appealed her YouTube content to makeup trends in the states and in the Middle East. With all those perspectives in mind, Kattan managed to design Huda Beauty cosmetics, which garnered beauty buzz from all over the world. If you want to create elegant eye-looks with well-pigmented shiny eyeshadows and popping lashes, then Huda Beauty will surely deliver.

7. Purlisse by Jennifer Yen

Did you know a former Power Rangers villain founded this skincare line? Yup, Jennifer Yen, the Chinese-American actress who played Vypra in the Power Rangers television show actually founded the popular skincare line, Purlisse! Yen came up with Purlisse after trekking out to find skincare that could repair her skin from the damage of long-wearing costume makeup.

“I turned to my heritage to solve my skin issues I was having during my Power Rangers days,” Yen says. “My skin was WRECKED from heavy costume makeup (and performing combat scenes CAKED in the stuff). I tried everything to heal my ravished skin, and nothing worked. It was only when I turned to my heritage my skin started to heal.”Purlisse features a wide array of skincare products, like facial cleansers and BB creams that use gentle, natural ingredients to elevate skin condition. “Purlisse means Beauty through Asian Wisdom; I was inspired to create a skincare line from my grandmother’s home remedies (that have been tried and tested for thousands of years!),” Yen says.

Through the magnificence of old Chinese beauty rituals, Yen realized the great potential of her own heritage’s practices and how they made her a worthy competitor in the beauty market. “I felt that I had an edge as an Asian woman, starting a beauty company inspired by Asian beauty rituals - I was coming from an authentic and true place,” Yen says. “Although it’s always difficult to start a business, I never saw or felt there was a ceiling.”

With her own heritage’s ancient beauty traditions mixed with modern innovations in skin science, Purlisse is a skincare brand worth trying out; if it's worked for 5000 years it’s gotta be the real deal!

Catt Sadler Claps Back After E! Says That She Received Lower Pay Because of Her 'Different Role' From Jason Kennedy

After leaving the E! network in December upon discovering that her male co-anchor was paid more, former anchor Catt Sadler is calling out E!'s claim that her pay was a result of her having different responsibilities than her co-worker. Cosmopolitan reports that E! finally responded on Tuesday to the controversy surrounding Sadler's unequal pay. After several actresses criticized the network on the Golden Globes red carpet for its treatment of Sadler, it's about time that someone tried to clear the air.

While speaking at the Television Critics Association Press Tour, Frances Berwick, president of NBCUniversal's lifestyle networks, said of Sadler, "There is a lot of misinformation out there. Catt Sadler and [co-anchor] Jason Kennedy had different roles and therefore different salaries. Catt was focused on daytime, Jason is on prime evening news plus red carpet. Our employees' salaries are based on their roles and their expertise, regardless of gender. We wish Catt well."

Since the news of Sadler's departure broke, Kennedy's wife Lauren Scruggs Kennedy expressed in her blog that sexist claims against E! were largely untrue. Citing Kennedy once receiving less than two other female co-anchors as an example, she wrote, "At one time my husband had a female co-host on E! News who made three times his salary and another female co-host was paid more than him as well. Women are paid accordingly on this network."

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sadler pointed out the differences between her own scenario and Kennedy's previous one. "My experience, frustration and disparity was based on Jason Kennedy and myself being apples to apples," she said. "We came to the network at the same time and did similar jobs. For people to use the argument that Giuliana [Rancic] somehow made more money than Jason, that comparison doesn't work. They're apples and oranges. She joined before him, she was managing editor, she had multiple shows on the network."

Sadler also hinted of her disappointment in Scruggs Kennedy for taking such a detailed stance, saying, "It's unfortunate that people who don't work there are trying to be the voice for the network. The only story I can tell is my truth and the truth speaks for itself."

Despite that awkwardness between the two women, Sadler has previously emphasized that Kennedy is not to blame for the unequal pay. In an Instagram post announcing her departure, she wrote, "He has done right by me in every respect. It hurts me deeply that some are vilifying him."

Sadler also expressed in the interview that she's happily looking forward in her career, sharing plans to focus on "meaningful work." After the widespread support of her seen at the Globes, she also took to Twitter to thank the actresses who mentioned her in red carpet interviews.

As difficult as this change has been for both E! and Sadler, it's clear that Sadler sticking up for herself has inspired women throughout the entertainment industry. I can't wait to see what she does next in the new era of #TimesUp.

9 Ways to Show Someone You Love Them Without Saying It

$

Love is in the air, especially around the holidays. The weather is getting colder, the mistletoe is being hung and there are a plethora of holiday movie marathons happening every second of the day. This is the perfect recipe for a date with your SO, and it may even be time to say those three little words we hold so dear – want some pizza?

No, I'm only kidding. But, it may indeed be the perfect setting to say, "I love you." However, whether it's the first time or the millionth time you've said it, it's always more special to show it. There are tons of ways to share your affection for someone without words, and let's be honest, actions do speak a lot louder. Here are some creative ways to spread the love this season.

1. Give them a thoughtful gift

When it comes to picking out a gift for your SO, you don't have to break the bank. Whether it's his or her birthday, Christmas, Valentine's Day or even just a random day, giving them a thoughtful gift is a great way to let them know how you feel. Autumn Dube, a recent graduate from Emmanuel College, says she "loves to give gifts or small notes or gratitude to show she cares for someone." Some other great ideas are handwritten letters, handmade art or a compilation of keepsakes that are dear to the both of you. It's always the thought that counts, not the dollar signs.

2. Listen to them

One of the best ways to show someone you care is the listen to them. If they start talking about something that's important to them, make sure to listen and engage with them about the topic. Let them know that you support everything that they love and enjoy--and encourage them to tell you some of their favorite stories. This also includes being there for him or her when needed. Stella Strouse, a senior at the University of Central Florida, mentions the importance of "being there for them in general even through the toughest times." Wanting to get to know someone better is a great way to prove your affection.

3. Be spontaneous

Planning spontaneous dates and surprising your SO will keep him or her surprised and show that you care about making him or her smile. If you've spent the last three days lounging around watching Netflix (which is great), try to mix it up and plan a picnic date at the park or a night out dancing. Even if your SO is a homebody, planning a fun night out every now and then is sure to be appreciated.

4. Make time, always

No matter how busy you may be, making time for your SO is sure to communicate how you feel. Being in a relationship is a commitment, and he or she deserves to be a part of your daily life. Make sure to allot enough time for your SO, so her or she never has to wonder how you feel or their importance in your life. If you're really busy one day or one week, make sure to send a sweet message as a reminder that you're thinking of him or her.

5. Cook a nice meal

That fastest way to many peoples' hearts is through their stomachs. Surprising your SO with a thoughtful home-cooked meal screams "I love you." Take the time to make his or her favorite meal from scratch, or you could try a cooking delivery system, such as Hello Fresh, if you aren't the best in the kitchen. Your SO will surely be thrilled to see that you spent the time making a meal no matter how it turns out.

6. Be forgiving

Relationships can be very hard – both you and your SO will disagree, fight and even make mistakes. If you truly love someone, you'll learn to forgive and move on. Don't hold grudges and make your SO feel terrible about something he or she has already apologized for. Try to be understanding and see the other side of every story, that's what love it about.

7. Give small signs of affection

Or as some call it: The X's and O's. Shower your SO with hugs and kisses as often as you can. Make sure they know you don't want to keep your hands off him or her, because you are so in love. Giving frequent small signs of affection will reassure your SO that you are crazy about them – but keep it to a minimum in public.

8. Make a secret handshake

Your SO is so much more than just your SO – they should be your best friend as well. What's better than a secret handshake between two besties? Tell your SO you want to make a secret handshake. It's sure to make him or her blush and feel special. This is a great way to show love in the littlest of ways. Little things can go a long way.

9. Be vulnerable

One way to show your love for someone is to open yourself up to love as well. Take notice of everything your SO is doing as well, and be vulnerable. Peel back your layers and show who you really are. Giving all of yourself and receiving all of him or her in return is the best way to show love.

Hopefully, with these tips, you'll be able to speak your SO's love language and win him or her over forever. Love doesn't have to be marked by three words--it can be shown in a plethora of ways.

At least 17 people, including children, were killed in mudslides in southern California this week, CNN reports. 84-year-old Roy Rohter, a headmaster and founder of a Catholic school, is one of the known deceased. As of Wednesday, rescue forces are still searching for endangered people, as more than a dozen are missing.

Heavy rain began early on Tuesday in Santa Barbara County, leading to streams of mud reaching homes in the seaside area Montecito, which was also affected by last year's Californian wildfires. As reported by the New York Times, Santa Barbara County sheriff Bill Brown said on Wednesday, "Hundreds of people have been rescued and evacuated, many of them having to be hoisted out of the area by our aircraft."

At least 300 homes in Montecito have been damaged and 28 people are known to have injuries, but first responders in a helicopter succeeded in rescuing Montecito residents who found themselves trapped in the area by debris.

Despite the mudslides trapping residents in homes, Santa Barbara had issued a mandatory evacuation for 7,000 people before the rainstorm. Evacuated residents in Carpinteria, Montecito and Goleta live near areas destroyed by wildfires.

Among the rescued was a 14-year-old girl who was found trapped inside her Montecito home alone. Some other homes on the block were ripped from their foundations as a result of the storm and mudflow. The sight mirrored that of single-story homes that were now completely separate from foundations.

Rescuers also haven't been immune to the natural disaster's dangers. Speaking to The Associated Press, Anthony Buzzerio, a Los Angeles County fire battalion chief, said, "We've gotten multiple reports of rescuers falling through manholes that were covered with mud, swimming pools that were covered up with mud. The mud is acting like a candy shell on ice cream. It's crusty on top but soft underneath, so we're having to be very careful."

What with roads resembling messy riverbeds, five highways were closed on Wednesday. The main 101 Freeway will stay closed until at least Monday.

Montecito is home to famous residents such as Oprah Winfrey, who posted an Instagram video of the minor damage in her backyard.

Our thoughts are with those injured and evacuated as a result of the mudslides. Stay safe!

HC Wake-Up Call: New York State Senator Has Been Accused of Sexual Misconduct, Gym Chain Bans Cable News & Starbucks' Secret Menu Has Harry Potter-Themed Drinks

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

A New York State Senator Has Been Accused of Sexual Misconduct

The Huffington Post exclusively reports that a former staffer has accused Democratic New York state Sen. Jeff Klein of "forcibly kissing her." After working for the New York Senate from 2013 to 2015, Erica Vladimer claimed that Klein "shoved his tongue" down her throat while they were at a bar. The encounter led to Vladimer leaving her position as a policy analyst and Independent Democratic Conference counsel a month later.

"The fact that there was an environment that could make me doubt the self-confidence that I worked so hard to have ― that I got from the strong women in my life ― made me feel like it wasn't the place for me," she said, "and that maybe the government wasn't for me."

In April 2015, Klein and Vladimer joined a group of colleagues in an Albany bar to celebrate the passing of the state budget. Included among the co-workers was Klein's longtime girlfriend Sen. Diane Savino. When Vladimer and Klein began a casual conversation about her father going to the same high school as Klein, she interpreted their discussion as a networking opportunity. When they were outside smoking cigarettes, Klein allegedly forced himself on her. Vladimer refused to continue while Klein "played dumb."

Both Klein and Savino have denied Vladimer's claims.

A Gym Chain Has Banned Cable News Stations From Its TVs

Fitness chain Life Time has removed cable news stations from its large-screen TVs, the New York Times reports. Stations representing both sides of the political spectrum — CNN, Fox News and MSNBC — will no longer appear, but local news station will still broadcast.

Representatives at Life Time, which has 130 locations in 27 states, made the decision "based on many member requests received over time across the country," according to spokeswoman Natalie Bushaw. Removing cable news also maintains Life Time's "overall healthy way of life philosophy and commitment to provide family-oriented environments free of polarizing or politically charged content."

While many Life Time members have praised the decision because it promotes the concept of the gym as an escape, other clients believe that it prevents them from multitasking and keeping up with news and exercise.

Starbucks Has a Secret Harry Potter Menu & I Need to Investigate

The amount of Starbucks secret menu items is seriously overwhelming, but it looks like I'll have to confuse yet another barista for these new drinks. There are two Harry Potter-themed drinks on the chain's secret menu, the Butterbeer Frappuccino and the Butterbeer Latte. Apparently, they've actually been around for awhile, but news of their existence has recently hit the media. These drinks seem to be heavy on the caramel and toffee nut syrups, so proceed with some caution!

What to look out for...

Today is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, which has actually only been around since 2010. In this era of #MeToo and Time's Up, fighting for an end to human trafficking should receive far more attention than it has. As said in the presidential proclamation explaining the special recognition, "let us declare as one that slavery has no place in our world, and let us finally restore to all people the most basic rights of freedom, dignity and justice."

3 Fashion Brands to Watch in 2018, Because Your Wardrobe Needs a Refresh

2018 is upon us and except for the terrorizing snowstorms and Steve Harvey memes, this year is off to a pretty good start. Obv the new year comes with making resolutions, and in 2018 you should definitely decide to add some new fashion labels to your wardrobe. Here are three brands that swept us off our feet in 2017 and have even greater things coming in their fashion forecast this year.

1. Michael Kors

Michael Kors gave us all the Bora Bora vibes at his Resort 2018 runway show, and though it may only be January, we're thinking still thinking back on the collection and wishing for summer. The bold floral prints, chic symmetrical cuts and occasional thousand dollar satchel place Kors as a brand to watch in 2018. If you’re looking to unwind your wardrobe and kick your feet up this year, you should definitely sip your coconut Michael Kors style.

Easy, breezy. #ResortReady #MichaelKorsCollection

2. Uniqlo x J.W. Anderson

Those who love to shop high-end at an affordable price are in for some luck this year, because Uniqlo x J.W.Anderson is blessing our closets. The collab is set to release at Uniqlo stores and online in Spring 2018, and after the success of their 2017 launch we have a lot to look forward to. We were in awe of timeless (yet still relatable) pieces, featuring classic plaids and retro-nostalgic color block patterns. If you’re looking for a throwback style, Uniqlo x Anderson will definitely be your scene.

3. Juicy Couture

Get ready for ~juicy~ new apparel because Juicy Couture is making a comeback in 2018. With the 2017 announcement of their new creative director Jamie Mizrahi, the throwback clothing line is expected to be huge this year––and yes, those beloved velour tracksuits and signature Juicy crown will be gracing our closets once more. Though their Spring 2018 Ready to Wear Collection featured bold colorfully striped patterns, culottes and bell bottom pants, there’s still enough velour to go around.

'Black Mirror’ Proves Why We Need More Women Sci-Fi Writers

$

The opinions expressed in this article are the author's own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus.

*This article contains spoilers*

Whether it’s a book, movie or graphic novel, the science fiction genre is known for bending the laws of science (obviously). However, I think that one of the unspoken rules of sci-fi is that the content still respects the laws of science, and if any distorted scientific principles do exist, they warrant an explanation. Unfortunately, episode two from the fourth season Black Mirror seems to have neglected this rule.

In the episode titled “Arkangel,” the main character, Marie, has a daughter, Sara, who she is very proactive about monitoring and mothering. At one point in the episode, Marie catches her daughter having sex, and almost immediately after the incident discovers that Sara is pregnant. (If you somehow aren’t well-versed on pregnancy logistics or essential women’s health, the American Pregnancy Association explains that it typically takes someone two weeks after conception to find out that they’re pregnant.) Then, to prevent the pregnancy, Marie stealthily grinds an emergency contraceptive (EC) pill into Sara’s smoothie, which somehow terminates the pregnancy.

Even in a futuristic setting, Black Mirror should still need to accommodate for any innovations that have the potential to detect pregnancy early––especially if the pregnancy was immediate––and distinguish the difference between emergency contraception pills and abortion pills.

While Black Mirror may have avoided this prevarication of how EC works by consulting professional scientists (or preferably medical doctors), the show might think its future setting can easily explain this dilemma. However, that simply isn't the case.

Daniel Grossman, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California San Francisco and director of Advancing New Standards In Reproductive Health (ANSIRH), tells The Lily, “Maybe in this dystopian future, EC means something else, but the EC we have now does not cause an abortion. It will not affect an established pregnancy.”

Could Black Mirror’s advanced timeline explain Sara’s expedited pregnancy test or how the EC terminated her pregnancy? I don’t know, nor do the viewers, which is problematic when a series dramatizes health topics and medications that currently exist. Black Mirror obviously has faced a lot of backlash following these discrepancies.

Like Black Mirror, some sci-fi creations get away with impossible logic, and in many cases, it drives success. Look at the Sharknado movies that feature sharks who can survive in a tornado without water, gluttonous for human flesh––you know, because sharks have their priorities of eating > breathing. Also examine The Thing, where an ambiguous extraterrestrial creature escapes from a block of ice that starts rapidly melting, despite that the fact that ice is in a refrigerated room. I can ascribe the unprecedented melting rate to have something to do with unexplained alien physiology.

If other successful franchises have gotten away with wildly inaccurate scientific facts, why is Black Mirror’s latest inaccuracy much more than just an oops? For me, this Black Mirror episode exacerbated the problem that there needs to be more education surrounding women’s health and contraception. Subsequently, if reproduction is going to be a topic that sci-fi starts covering more frequently, productions need to devote time, money and effort to quality research.  Actually, I can’t help but think that, if there were more women writers for Black Mirror, then maybe this episode wouldn’t have been drowning in falsehoods about EC and women’s health.

Despite the fact that a woman, Mary Shelley, invented the sci-fi genre, only 22 percent of published sci-fi authors are women. Although there are plenty of successful women writers in the sci-fi realm, it's still a feat for women to become established professionals when men dominate the industry. Encouraging more women to facilitate their interest in science fiction will not only help fight the inequality and sexism in sci-fi (both on and off screen), but it will also help prevent harmful misrepresentations like this scenario on Black Mirror

No, an influx of women creators in the science fiction genre wouldn't automatically fix all these blatantly harmful references about women’s health—especially considering Jodie Foster did direct this episode of Black Mirror and still let EC misinformation slip through. But encouraging more women to contribute to the sci-fi community invites professionals, medical doctors or acclaimed scientists to be consulted before an episode like this enters our TV screen.

Face Mask & Chill: I Tried A Magnetic Mask, & Here's What Happened

As the host of our weekly Face Mask & Chill segment on Instagram Stories, I own a LOT of face masks. Like, boxes on boxes. So it takes a lot to blow my mind when it comes to masks. But when I heard about the magnet masks taking over the internet, I knew I had to get my hands on one immediately to see what it could do for my very, very complicated skin.

My relationship with my skin has always been a messy one. For a long time, my skin straight up sucked. As a teenager, I would spend ages just staring at my skin in the mirror as if I could somehow will it to be better. I became obsessive about my skin––what made it break out, what made it calm down, what foods made it freak out (even though ~they~ still say food doesn't impact your skin). Eventually, I started to figure out what worked best for my skin, and I stopped breaking out quite so often. TG for growing up, and out, of hormonal freakouts. Still, though, I remained preoccupied, and to this day, I'm straight up obsessed with my skin.

Naturally, as a skincare obsessive, I've spent an absurd amount of time looking up skincare products. Half of my Instagram feed is loaded with skincare gurus shouting out the latest and greatest products. When I got my literal dream job as the Her Campus Social Media Editor, I knew the first segment I wanted to launch: Face Mask & Chill, a weekly Instagram Story dedicated to all things skincare. And now, we're bringing you Face Mask & Chill in writing, because who doesn't need more skincare advice in their life?

The focus of this week's Face Mask & Chill? The Dr. Brandt Magnetight Age-Defier Skin Recharging Magnetic Face

The basic gist of this mask is that it's magnetic, so you apply it to clean, dry skin, and then you remove it with a little triangular magnet. The Dr. Brandt site says that it's made of "black tourmaline, a powerful mystic stone known as one of nature’s most energizing minerals" which "is ground into the finest powder to neutralize negative energy and boost positivity, rendering skin radiant." Basically, alongside some anti-aging, it should refresh your skin, which is always something my skin could use, especially in the winter months when it's at its driest.

Applying the mask was a pretty enjoyable process, which sounds like, duh, except that so many masks are an absolute pain to apply. They're messy and they drip everywhere, or they're sticky and they drip into your coffee (yum). But this one went on really smoothly, and once it was on it wasn't budging. I skipped my eye area (it's too sensitive for testing this sort of thing, and I wasn't risking it for the 'gram, sorry not sorry) and my eyebrows (because I like them where they are, thank you very much) and layered on a single coat.

Plus, you don't have to use much at all, which is nice since this one is decently pricey if you're working with a tight budget. I took some selfies, posted to IG, and then it was time to wait.

While I waited for the mask to ~work it's magnetic magic~, I began prepping the magnet. Pro tip: you don't apply the magnet straight to your face. You actually wrap it in tissue (aka toilet paper for us less fancy people) to prevent the product from getting stuck to the magnet forever. Once the 10 minutes passed, I started slowly dragging the magnet across my skin, and I was honestly shocked to see the teensy little filaments go shooting from my skin to the magnet, leaving zero residue behind. It was like a fifth grade science experiment in the absolute best way. Mind. Blown.

ICYMI the Instagram Story, you can watch a video review of the mask below!

Overall, I thought this was a really fun mask. It has more of a purifying feeling than a hydrating one, so I was sure to follow it up with a hydrating serum and my everyday moisturizer. My face wasn't red at all, which was a blessing since you never really know how a mask is going to impact your skin. I mean, I could patch test, but I'm lazy and impatient, whoops. Luckily, this little guy had nothing but a positive impact on my skin, and made it feel SO SOFT.

Did it clear up my every zit and empty my pores? I wouldn't go that far. But I would definitely use this mask again, especially on those days where I'm in a rush and don't have time for the whole apply-wait-wash-make-a-giant-mess process. Plus, it's 100% Instagrammable, which is always a positive thing in my book.

Apparently Ashley Graham Was Sexually Harassed at 17, & The Story Is Absolutely Horrifying

This week on The View, model Ashley Graham opened up about her own experiences with sexual harassment, describing a traumatizing moment she had with a photo assistant when she was only 17. It's something she's hinted about before, but now with the release of her book, A New Model: What Confidence, Beauty, and Power Really Look Like, coupled with the impact of the #MeToo movement, Graham has become more vocal.

“A photo assistant said, ‘Come here, I want to talk to you,’” Graham recounted, journeying back to a dark day on set. “He lured me into this hallway, pushed me into a closet. He exposed himself and he said, ‘Look at what you did to me all day long. Now touch it.’” Obviously she freaked out and ran away, but what stuck with her was the worry that this would affect her modeling career. She thought "I’m never going to get hired for a job again."

If #MeToo and the Time's Up movement had been around when Graham was a teenager, she would have made more noise about the harassment. “If I knew that all of these women were standing up and saying ‘Me Too’, I would have smacked that guy and been like ‘he’s a pedophile.’”

However, it is important to note that before Graham even had the chance to get to the meat of her story, Joy Behar interrupted her saying, “That’s why you bring your mother to the shoot.” While this was said with genuine concern for a young Ashley Graham facing down men in New York at 17––maybe even acting as a warning to young girls watching the show––it came across as premature blame, or even perhaps a you could have prevented this comment. It indicates a view that people need to take preventative actions so that they don’t get sexual assaulted, rather than teaching people that they just shouldn’t sexually assault others. Period.

Graham's willingness to open up about sexual misconduct is definitely a result of the positive landscape movements like #MeToo and Time's Up have created––one where people feel comfortable sharing their stories because they know they have support.  If someone is sharing their story with you, never question them or try to diagnose their experience. Believe them. Support them.

The Teaser for Taylor Swift's 'End Game' Music Video Is Here & It's Extra AF

Taylor Swift is about to drop another music video for another song off of Reputation called "End Game." The Internet is already flooded with teasers for the video featuring Ed Sheeran and Future and it honestly looks so extra.

Tonight at midnight eastern. #EndGameMusicVideo @future @teddysphotos

A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on

In the teaser, she's partying on the beach, on a yacht and even in a bar with Ed Sheeran. I wonder if we'll see that rumored cameo from Katy Perry everyone was freaking out over. Taylor looks like she's out for revenge, much like the tone of the rest of her album, so I'm not surprised to see her with dark makeup and messy hair.

The full video drops at midnight on Friday (a.k.a. tonight). I can't wait to see what else is in the video (if I know Taylor, probably plenty of Easter eggs) and what fans will have to say. Maybe Katy will actually make an appearance and cause an internet freak-out. We'll have to wait and see.

Margot Robbie Has the Most Hilariously Awkward Story About Meeting Barack Obama on Her Honeymoon

$

The story of Margot Robbie's honeymoon sounds too good to be true — but trust me — it happened. On The Ellen Degeneres Showon Wednesday, the actress recalled her time in Tahiti with her husband Tom Ackerley and it involves a few very important people, Ellen being one of them.

Robbie begins the story explaining how it was a rainy day on the island and the couple decided to go to the gym. Ackerley only had one pair of shorts for the gym and they were *very* short. Robbie expressed how revealing they were and she told him, "You cannot wear those shorts! They’re like… you know, I can see everything." He did anyway and what happens next is too funny. "So we walk into the gym and running on the treadmill is Ellen," Robbie laughs. "And then on the treadmill next to her is Portia, her wife. Already Tom and I are like, 'Oh. My. God.' And Tom's face has just gone white."

After the awkward realization that they've just run into the couple, they realize Ellen and Portia aren't alone. "And then you're [Ellen] like, 'Have you met Obama?' And we were like, 'What?' And standing next to them was former President Barack Obama," she said. "I'm not kidding. In a gym that was tiny." LOL.

I'm sure at this point Tom regrets his short-shorts because Margot continues the story where the couple, along with Ellen, Portia and Obama participate in a stretching class. "We then had to do this whole like stretching class, but Tom meanwhile is trying to like, not reveal anything, and he’s dying and I'm crying so much I'm about to crack a rib," Robbie laughs. "The gym instructor keeps saying to Tom, ‘Tom, lunge! Lunge! You’re not lunging!’ and Tom’s trying to lunge cross-legged and Obama's like stepping over his legs to put his weights back." OMG. Could you imagine?!

Though the story is so hilarious and also gives you a little secondhand embarrassment for Tom, I'm sure this story will make their honeymoon that much more memorable. The moral of the story is maybe short shorts to your workout class are never a good idea. You never know who you'll see, even if you're all the way in Tahiti.

So Fake News Jeans Exist, & They're Weirdly Stylish?

$

As if the current US Presidency isn’t already enough of a joke, the U.K. retailer Topshop decided to profit a little off of America’s despair. They debuted some fake news jeans that are about as fake as Trump’s orange spray tan. Meaning they’re real, they’re very real.

The MOTO 'Fake News' Slogan Straight Leg Jeans, which obviously sold out immediately, were selling for $90 each, a real deal for fake jeans. One can only assume that President Trump himself will probably take credit for the massive success of these jeans, saying something along the lines of “My friends at Topshop love me, they love me, I gave them so much success, I made them huge.”

In all seriousness, normalizing the disaster of the current presidency by turning it into comedy is an effective self defense mechanism, but it can also undermine the threat of censored journalism. Trump has made it no secret that he doesn’t like hearing bad things about himself, but the extent to which that he wants to repress negative coverage about himself is what we should be worrying about. Turning attention away from the real news by focusing on the ridiculous stuff that Trump says or tweets could unintentionally benefit him. We're all familiar with Trump’s infamous covfefe tweet, but whatactually happened in the world that day? Trump decided to pull out of the Paris Agreement. But it's more likely you were focused on a confusing midnight tweet than an actual current event.

While it’s OK to poke fun at the state of today’s political environment, don't forget the real threats that lurk behind phrases like "fake news."

Puppers are the most pure and happy little beings on this planet, and honestly, we live for a good dog video. This week, we’ve been #blessed with a makeup tutorial from the internet's newest beauty vlogger, Malachi the pit bull. His first tutorial is intended for “blue to grey fur tones,” and it's filmed by his human mommy, Noelani.

While no makeup was actually being applied to Malachi, this doggy makeup tutorial quickly went viral with fellow pups loving the look. One fan even decided to show off his own dog park style!

Thankfully, Malachi and Noelani saw the hype and didn’t stop with the first tutorial. They released another video shortly after, and this time a special pup friend join Malachi. These good boys seem to love being the center of attention, and of course, enjoy all the pets with the soft brushes.

Can this be an official petition to only allow dog beauty vloggers from now on? Please and thank you.

Just As Everyone You Know Is Getting Sick AF, Starbucks Has Some New Health-Boosting Teas

It’s the middle of winter, everyone around us has snot icicles dripping from their nostrils, and we’re just struggling to stay healthy. While we’d love to take a sick day, our schedule—and wallets—can’t afford one. Thankfully, Starbucks just unrevealed some new teas that might be able (Or they can at least make help your cold feel more tolerable.)

Starbucks’ latest concoctions feature a series of Teavana Wellness Teas. Starbucks tells Her Campus that these new drinks include the Teavana Defense Wellness Tea, Teavana Comfort Wellness Tea and Teavana Rev Up Wellness Tea.

The Teavana Defense Wellness Tea is packed with citrus flavors and Vitamin C, which is essential for your immune system. Plus, it even helps keep your skin healthy because it aids in collagen production.

Whereas the Teavana Comfort Wellness Tea is filled with ginger and a ton of mint (spearmint and peppermint to be specific). And we all know that ginger is essentially a fearless vigilante when it comes to nausea.

Or the Teavana Citrus Defender, which was inspired by the Honey Citrus Mint Tea, and is a hybrid of tea, honey and lemonade.

But the Teavana Rev Up Wellness Tea is our fav, because green tea can essentially expedite your coughing-self to better health. After all, everyone hates lingering cold or flu symptoms.

Bustle explains that these teas could help your immune system fend off colds this sick-season, because these soothing beverages contain vitamins and natural ingredients that are specifically tailored toward helping your immune system.

After Starbucks recently made their formerly secret drink, the Medicine Ball, an official (and permanent) menu item, it’s exciting to see that the company is refreshing its selection with more beverages that support your physical and mental health. (Because daily tea time is an essential part of our self-care routine.)

Now the reigning queen Mariah Carey can finally get the tea she deserves. (And you can lip sync along to "Obsessed" in between sips and sneezes. We won't judge.)

Can your fantasies of getting hitched with Nick Viall ~actually~ become a reality, now? We're thinking, YES!

Ex-Bachelor Nick Viall admits to Us Weekly, "I'm dating, that's all I'll say. I'm hoping I’m lucky enough to meet someone sooner or later. If it happens, it happens." Therefore, get ready ladies!

Keep in mind that Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi were only together for roughly five months, and it still took Viall six months to get over their break-up. If it takes Viall that long to get over Grimaldi, we wonder how long it would take Viall to get over a bachelorette like you, collegiettes. As of now, it sounds like Viall dives deep into his relationships and is ready to commit for the long haul. (Fifth time's the charm?)

Viall got real on his recent appearance on The Ben & Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast by revealing some Bachelor gossip and dating advice — he's clearly not afraid to disguise his true emotions regarding the breakup and says that he's just trying to move forward.

Although Viall denies a special appearance on Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s current season, could we expect a fifth appearance on The Bachelor? We still aren't over your mid-western charm and seductive smile, yet, Viall.

Justin Trudeau Stood Up For Freedom Of Speech & Challenged Anti-Abortion Groups In Canada

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took a stance on freedom of speech, while maintaining that politically organizations "restricting women's rights by removing rights to abortion" weren't in line with the future he envisioned for Canada.

Canadian employers can now apply for federal money to higher young workers over the summer of 2018. The new applications are going to be vetted to “make sure they do not plan to use federal funds to discriminate or violate human rights in Canada.”

“CSJ [Canada Summer Job] applicants will be required to attest that both the job and the employer’s core mandate respect individual human rights in Canada, including the values enshrined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms,” Labour Minister Patty Hajdu wrote to The Huffington Post.

But that hasn’t sat right with everyone, especially the anti-abortion groups. A first-year student at McMaster University asked Trudeau on Wednesday about his views on freedom of speech, speaking up for those who disagree with the new mandate.

“If you’re pro-life then you are ridiculed and insulted, but if you’re pro-choice then you are praised,” the student said, per Huffington Post CA.

The prime minister though said he is defending the rights and freedoms, which, he believes, are “at the core of what Canada is.”

“An organization that has the explicit purpose of restricting women’s rights by removing rights to abortion, the right for women to control their own bodies, is not in line with where we are as a government and quite frankly where we are as a society,” Trudeau said.

But not everyone agrees, including member of the Canadian House of Commons Brad Trost.

Different views than Justin Trudeau's Liberals? Then as an employer, you won't be able to apply for the Canada Summer Jobs Program, thus, no funding. pic.twitter.com/Fgdm0ZIjMA

— Brad Trost (@BradTrostCPC) December 13, 2017

Though anti-abortion group, the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform, has received $56 thousand in federal funds, Trudeau seemed to keep his stance.

“There are organizations out there that couch themselves in freedom of speech, freedom of conscience…which of course you’re more than allowed to have whatever beliefs you like," Trudeau said. "...but when those beliefs lead to actions determined to restrict a woman’s right to control her own body, that’s where I  and I think we draw the line as a country."
