Matt Damon Says We Should Talk More About Men That Don't Assault Women & the Internet Has Some *Thoughts*

0
0

One positive thing to come out of 2017 is a shift in the way the world views sexual assault. Women are speaking up more than ever about their personal experiences with sexual misconduct, and the best part? The world is paying attention, change is happening and men are being held accountable for their previously protected but inappropriate behaviors.

Some people, though, are completely missing the point of the conversation. Matt Damon, Hello Giggles shares, is one of those people.

The actor recently expressed to Business Insider that the world should also be paying attention to the millions of men who aren't harassing women. His tone-deaf statement says, "We're in this watershed moment, and it's great, but I think one thing that's not being talked about is there are a whole sh*tload of guys — the preponderance of men I've worked with — who don't do this kind of thing and whose lives aren't going to be affected."

In other words, we should be applauding the men who are acting like decent human beings? As if the world hasn't been favoring the acts of men for, like, the entire history of the human race. To no surprise, his words did not go over well with the Twitter-verse.

The "not all men" narrative is flat out insulting, and people like Matt Damon only continue to perpetuate it with comments like this. The non-sexual predators are not the problem, which is why there is no reason to talk about them. Full offense, Mr. Damon, but I will kindly ask you to take your unwelcome and incorrect statements elsewhere... maybe to a classroom, so you can educate yourself on women's history.

A Judge Ordered That Two Undocumented Women Be Allowed To Have Abortions Despite Trump Administration Pushback

A federal judge ordered Monday that the Trump administration has to stop blocking two immigrant teenage girls who are in U.S. custody from obtaining abortions, reports the Hill.

The two girls—referred to in court records as Jane Doe and Jane Poe— were prevented from getting abortions by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), which is the federal agency that oversees most things to do with refugees and undocumented immigrants. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is fighting for them in court. The judge has honored the ACLU’s request for temporary restraining orders on the officials so they could not prevent the women from having the procedure done. However, the ruling is on a 24-hour hold to let the government have time to file for a stay in appeals court.

The ORR released a statement about the situation during the proceedings where the agency said the girls had two options. They could leave the country to have abortion procedures done, or they could find a “suitable sponsor” through Health and Human Services (HHS). The only thing they would offer them would be “life-affirming options counseling” instead of any kind of actually helpful assistance, medical or otherwise. The ACLU says that the director of ORR, Scott Lloyd, decided to contact the two girls in person in order to convince them to carry their pregnancies to term, rather than seeking an abortion.

The Trump administration condemned the ruling when it came down Monday. In a statement, the department said, “We are deeply disappointed in the decision to grant a temporary restraining order that will compel HHS to facilitate abortions for minors when they are not medically necessary.” The idea of “taxpayer-facilitated abortions” is apparently far more horrifying than the idea of two 17-year-old girls who are being held in custody with no idea where their future is taking them having to also, simultaneously, figure out how to care for and support a child.

This isn’t the first time the ACLU has had to fight for the reproductive rights of an undocumented immigrant. Another woman, also known as Jane Doe, was granted an abortion after a long and controversial legal battle with the Trump administration. That case is still in the legal system and will be heard by the Supreme Court in the future.

While the fight isn’t over yet, the ACLU’s Reproductive Freedom Project is celebrating the ruling. Brigitte Amiri, a senior staff attorney with the project, said the decision is “a reminder that both the law and justice are on our side. . . We’re prepared to keep fighting for as long as we need to.”

Fans Spotted a Subtle Detail in Khloe Kardashian's Snapchat Story That They Think Confirms Those Pregnancy Rumors

Khloe Kardashian may or may not be pregnant. So while we wait for a confirmation on the rumors, fans have taken to super sleuthing through every detail on her social media accounts for possible clues — and they may have just found a major one.

As E! News noticed, the Kardashian sis took to Snapchat over the weekend to show off a pair of glasses from her collection with DIFF Eyewear — and fans are freaking out, but not over how cute her shades are (which, for the record, they are).

Instead, fans are obsessing over a tiny detail reflected in her super shiny lenses. Zooming in to her right lens reveals that Khloe owns a "U"-shaped pillow, which is often used by pregnant women to sleep more comfortably and maintain a posture that's better for the baby. As Amazon's description of a similar pillow reads, it's "uniquely designed to follow the natural shape of the pregnant mom." Hmm... Interesting.

Meanwhile, according to a post in her app titled "My Favorite Moments of 2017," Khloe also calls 2017, "one of the best years of my life," only adding to speculation that there's some good news she hasn't yet shared with fans. Oh, and an upcoming episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians is titled "Baby Fever"— which the show has teased with a clip of Khloe's friends and sisters tearfully hugging her after she makes a big announcement.

Need I say more? It seems like it's only a matter of time before Khloe lets fans in on the news — it's definitely been a long time coming.

9 Probing Questions We Have About The Pentagon’s Not-Longer-Secret UFO Program

0
0

Thanks toThe New York Times and Politico releasing simultaneous articles, we just found out that the government has been funding UFO research…Yes, UFO research. This is real life.

It’s called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, which the Pentagon said was dismantled in 2012. However, the program is still up and running, and it’s super classified (and super sketchy), so we’ve gathered the facts just for you!

What exactly is the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program?

Politico reported the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program investigates unidentified foreign objects that appear more advanced than that of any aircraft known to the world. From 2007-2012, $22 million dollars was spent on the program from the annual defense department budget of $600 billion. The Pentagon defunded the program in 2012, but some service members keep it afloat. Until recently, it was run by Luis Elizondo, a military intelligence official.

Wait… HOW much money was secretly spent on it?

Yep. $22 million dollars —that the Pentagon made untraceable, according toThe Washington Post.

Why would information on UFOs be so secret? Seriously, shouldn’t we have been informed?

Because the Pentagon wanted it that way. And so did the program’s founder, Harry Reid, according to The New York Times.

“Much progress has been made with the identification of several highly sensitive, unconventional aerospace-related findings,” TheNew York Times quoted Reid in a letter to William Lynn III, a deputy defense secretary at the time. In this letter, he requested that the program be only open to a few officials and designated a “restricted special access program.”

How did we even find out about this craziness?

You can thank Luis Elizondo for that. According to The Washington Post, Elizondo released three videos of these UFOs to the public before he resigned three months ago. These videos show multiple giant flying ovals and were taken from cockpit cameras. (You can watch one of these insane videos here.)

How did the program start?

According to Politico, many military members, particularly pilots, had sighted UFOs, but they were too afraid of being laughed at to report them. As a result, the program was founded in 2007 by the Democratic Senate majority leader at the time, Harry Reid. Reid has had a long interest in outer space, so he funneled billions of dollars to his friend Robert Bigelow, who put it into his aerospace research company. Soon their program grew as the sightings began to pour in.

Did they actually find any UFOs?

Yes! The New York Times reported there were countless sightings from the military, ranging from a singular fuzzy disk on the horizon, to a fleet of giant glowing aircraft. These mysterious flying objects were mainly reported near nuclear plants, power plants and ships at sea. The program compiled video and audio pieces of evidence. One video revealed “an aircraft surrounded by some sort of glowing aura traveling at high speed and rotating as it moves” reported The New York Times. They also collected metal alloys obtained from the unidentified aircraft, and they psychologically and physically inspected people who had come into contact with these aircraft.

But how are we sure that they’re UFOs?

We aren’t… which makes this whole debacle even spookier. The New York Times reported that Sara Seager, an astrophysicist from M.I.T. said that not knowing where an object comes from doesn’t mean it’s from outer space. James E. Oberg, a former NASA space shuttle engineer who often debunks UFO sightings, also voiced his doubts.

“There are plenty of prosaic events and human perceptual traits that can account for these stories,” Oberg said to The New York Times. “Lots of people are active in the air and don’t want others to know about it. They are happy to lurk unrecognized in the noise, or even to stir it up as camouflage.”

Politico reported there is concern that these objects could be secret technology developed by China or Russia and could pose a threat to the United States… which while they’re not aliens, that’s still pretty terrifying.

If there’s this huge risk, why was the program defunded?

“It was determined that there were other, higher priority issues that merited funding and it was in the best interest of the DoD to make a change,” said Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White to Politico.

According to Politico, many people were uncomfortable with the idea that these aircraft came from outer space, and that the program was so secretive. There were also concerns about the money being given to Bigelow because he was a friend of Reid. Lastly, according to Reid, they couldn’t find anything of substance, so they decided it was no longer worth taxpayer money.

So what’s next?

Elizondo feels that the program should be made public because American citizens deserve to know about these mysterious aircraft, reported The Washington Post. He speculates that if more people know about it, we may begin to take sightings more seriously.

The United States isn’t the only country exploring UFOs. According to The New York Times, countries like China, Russia, Belgium, France, England and Chile are actually more receptive to exploring the possibility of UFOs than we are. So now many people want to expand our program because they believe our defense system is not equipped to deal with UFOs… but the Pentagon doesn’t seem to be budging.

“Despite overwhelming evidence at both the classified and unclassified levels, certain individuals in the [Defense] Department remain staunchly opposed to further research on what could be a tactical threat to our pilots, sailors and soldiers, and perhaps even an existential threat to our national security,” Elizondo said in the letter, reported by The Washington Post.

Are you as creeped out as we are? This could either be a technological threat from other countries or it could be science fiction coming to life! Either way, it’s probably not nothing — and the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program clearly has more to find.

5 Pant Trends for When You’re Tired of Skinny Jeans & Leggings

0
0

Skinny jeans and leggings seem to be the norm when it comes to pants these days. But let’s be real, sometimes we get sick of squeezing into skinny jeans and want something a little nicer than leggings. That’s where this list comes in. We’re not saying you need to throw out your skinny jeans, but maybe give them a breather while you explore five pant trends that are cool, comfortable and versatile.

Velvet

Velvet pants offer both luxury and comfort, and that’s what we’re into. But don’t just take our word for it.

Stephanie Murray, a junior at Savannah College of Art and Design, says she has a pair that she loves from American Eagle that are a burnt orange color. “They're great for days when I wake up late, but I don't want to look like I just rolled out of bed,” she says. “I was at Publix one day and the cashier quoted Coming to America: ‘This is beautiful. What is that - velvet?’ after seeing them.”

Plus, velvet pants come in all sorts of colors, from rich jewel tones to pretty pastels and easy-to-style neutrals. Wearing these will give any outfit an added touch of luxe.

Mom jeans

They might not sound like the chicest pants of all time, but don’t count mom jeans out just yet. While skinny jeans and leggings might look sleeker, mom jeans are cool and comfortable.

“They are literally the comfiest jeans I have ever worn because they are soft, slightly baggy (but not as baggy as boyfriend jeans, which I think can be unflattering), and the high waist is much more comfortable than jeans that dig into my side,” says Colleen Zewe, a senior at Saint Mary’s College.

Preach, girl! Once you try pants that are a little roomier and still as fashionable as skinny jeans, you’ll be wondering why you loved skinny jeans so much in the first place. The best part is that they’re super easy to style; you can just throw on a cozy sweater and some jewelry, and bam, that’s all she wrote.

Joggers

These are possibly the comfiest pants on this list. Joggers are essentially trendy sweatpants, which we are absolutely here for.

“I love joggers!” says Sam Goodyear, a sophomore at York University. “They are super comfy and practical. I bought my favorite pair from American Eagle.”

They lend themselves especially well toward the athleisure trend, so if that’s your jam (or if comfy pants in general are your jam), then these are totally for you.

Culottes

We are a long way from skinny jeans and leggings now. Culottes are probably the roomiest pants of all time, which makes them perfect for when you want to wear something that is not as restricting as a skinny jean can be.

“They fall into that awkward yet intriguing range of pants but not pants, comfortable but not lazy, and effortless yet cutting edge,” Stephanie says.

Culottes also work well with styles ranging from athleisure to edgy to preppy; pair gray culottes with white sneakers and a gray long-sleeved turtleneck shirt for a comfy, athleisure look, or wear black culottes with a white t-shirt, leather jacket and heelsfor an edgier approach.

Gauchos

These wide-legged pants are cool again with celebs like JLo and Victoria Beckham sporting them on outings and at events. We love the way RiRi sports them; she pairs white gauchos with a white, long-sleeved cropped top and strappy black heels, a chic look for day and night. It’s safe to say the gauchos of the early 2000s have been hardcore leveled up.

Skinny jeans and leggings are great, but it’s fun to try something new, too. With the cold weather rolling in, now is a good time to start experimenting with new and exciting pant trends you haven’t tried before. Though, we wouldn’t blame you if you just trade in your skinny jeans and for sweatpants this winter.

This Is Not a Drill: a Dunkin' Donuts Coffee-Flavored Beer Exists

College is tough, and though they serve *very* different purposes, there are few things that have gotten us through quite like coffee and beer — which is why Dunkin' Donuts's announcement of its new coffee-flavored beer is pretty much the best early Christmas present ever.

Yes, this is real life: on Tuesday, the coffee giant announced that it had teamed up with the Massachusetts-based Wormtown Brewery for "DDark Roasted Brew," a beer that Today describes as a, "robust, coffee-flavored stout." Considering it sounds like the perfect choice for winter, we're already sold.

Because it wouldn't be Dunkin' without doughnuts, the company even has a specific doughnut pairing in mind to go with the beer, suggesting its Double Chocolate Cake Donut, as "DDark Roasted Brew" apparently complements its creamy chocolate icing super well. Who knew?

And, now for the bad news: if you want to get your hands on what is basically the best idea since tequila-infused gummies, you're going to have to head to Massachusetts — specifically Worcester, where Wormtown Brewery is based. The beer will only be sold at Wormtown Brewery’s Tap Room for a limited time, starting on December 21 at exactly 11:28 a.m. to coincide with the winter solstice.

Worth it? Honestly, if your holiday travels are taking you anywhere near Worcester, you just might need to take a detour. (And if you want to plan an entire road trip around it, I'm not judging for that either.)

Sketches of Several of Meghan Markle's Wedding Dress Options Have Been Leaked

Now that we officially know when (May 17, 2018) and where (St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle) the royal wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will take place, we still have tons of questions regarding the details of the big day — namely, what will Meghan's dress look like?

It turns out that we're getting a glimpse of what Meghan may opt to wear on the big day a lot sooner than we thought. On Tuesday, TMZ revealed three sketches Israeli designer Inbal Dror created as options for Meghan after she was contacted by the royal family about possibly dressing her.

From what we can tell from the sketches, one thing is pretty certain: Meghan will likely choose a long-sleeved dress. All three of Dror's options are long-sleeved, and it's generally a tradition for royal brides, including Princess Diana and Kate Middleton, to go with a long-sleeved look.

However, there's definitely some subtle sexiness in Dror's sketches as well, all of which feature gorgeous lace details that appear to be sheer. Considering the couple already has been open to defying tradition in other ways, it wouldn't be too surprising if Meghan goes for something a little statement-making when it comes to her dress.

Obviously, Dror is likely in competition with tons of other designers — but if Meghan picks her, she'll be in good company. Dror dressed none other than Beyoncé herself (a different type of royalty) for the Grammys last year, and she looked ~flawless~.

Anna Kendrick Says She Shot Down a 'Problematic' Romantic Storyline for 'Pitch Perfect 3'& You Go Girl

Anna Kendrick isn't here for your attempts to unnecessarily sexualize her and the rest of the Barden Bellas. Not only did she have to remind wardrobe designers working on Pitch Perfect 3 that people don't, in fact, watch the Pitch Perfect movies for their sexy costumes, but she also says she shut down a "problematic" romantic storyline between her and another character.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, the actress says the movie was originally written so that Guy Burnet's character, Theo the music producer in the film, would become her love interest — they were even supposed to kiss at the end. Understandably, because the characters are supposed to have a professional relationship throughout the film and a romantic storyline would have blurred those lines, Kendrick was not about this idea.

"I thought that would be kind of f*cking problematic," she told Harper's Bazaar, referencing the professional relationship between the characters. "I was like, 'Can no one else [see it]? Once I said it, everybody was like, 'I guess so.' And they still wanted to have a version at the end when we kissed, and I still said no."

I probably don't need to remind you of all the recent discussion of the problematic power imbalances that happen when bosses try to make romantic advances toward their subordinates — but especially in a post-Harvey Weinstein world, it was probably a smart move for Anna to speak up about this scene.

I Was Bullied During My First Year of College

0
0

College. You know the clean slate state-of-mind all too well. But walking home alone on a bitter cold dusky Halloween night alone, after eating dinner, has a way of dirtying said slate. Believe me, I am wildly independent; it isn’t the walk or eating alone that bothers me at all. What irks me just a little bit too much is that I am doing all of these things after having not been told that the people I started the semester considering my family had left and returned from dinner without the slightest glance in my direction.

I’m usually the friend on the losing end of the one-sided friendships and man there have been too many of those. Partially my fault of course because I’m poor at identifying healthy relationships, but that’s another issue. I thought coming to college would change things.

Just as a disclaimer: This is not meant to be a sob story, nor is it meant to be one of self-victimization. Sharing an experience does not mean sides need to be taken. I am not out to create an enemy nor do I wish to become one. Bullying in college is considered a taboo topic. It doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen, it just means that suddenly, five months after leaving high school, we are expected to suck it up and “handle it like adults." Which, is what I intend to do.

I am a first-year here at Oswego, coming from a high school three hours away where I played a leading role in programs for eradicating hate, harassment and bullying in the community. This included mentoring students, spreading awareness of what bullying looks like, teaching others how to be an upstander rather than a bystander and doing random small acts of kindness to remind people that they are worth it.

To define the terms under which I worked: Bullying is the persistent, repeated act of things such as hate, prejudice, harassment and exclusion. It can be verbal, social, physical and/or emotional.

In my case, the relationships I formed became toxic through a web of partially resolved miscommunication, manipulation and purposeful exclusion. It feels like if I dare to disagree with—or be a different person than—the girl in this group, then there will be an issue. I’m not going to rant on about the specifics of things, because I’m writing this to try and help any illogical bitterness go, not grow. Also, I will fully own up to the fact that due to my choices to rant to the wrong people about the wrong things at the wrong time—thinking I was standing up for myself—had a hand in why that miscommunication came about.

One day I was being invited to everything and the next I have to hear about what people are saying about me behind my back. Or, with the obnoxious noise levels in my hall, I am made well aware of all I am not invited to. I’ve even noticed that new friendships I try to make around here are quickly commandeered.

Why, after having spent four years of my life standing up for other people, can I not stand up for myself? I suppose, in some ways, I tried and failed. My personality type is the one where if I’m not being “nice” and decide to, for example, politely ask people to quiet down, then I am instantly the bad guy. I’ve been told that it is how people take advantage of kind personalities, which can really suck.

In other ways, I’ve dealt with this before and understand that it’s not worth the effort. There are other victims in this too that are going to have a much ruder awakening than I, if andwhen they mature enough to understand what has happened. It has been emotionally taxing. I have had nights where I scare myself into believing that this will bring back the depression-like thoughts I haven’t had in years. Even writing this, I sit fearing every aspect of things. But I also sit here really tired of what I’ve been put through. I’m tired of being told to be quiet about my opinions, my faith, my life. Especially when everyone else seems to get a say in both theirs and mine.

This is me making the choice to walk away. Even if it means I need to take a while to feel really happy again, anything could be better than knowing someone has a negative hold on my life and takes satisfaction in that. These people live down the hall. There’s no avoiding them, but there will be no more letting them into my head. I’m going to go try, fail and try again because I still love life and I have never once regretted choosing Oswego. There are healthier things to focus on. So for now, I’ll enjoy my dinners alone and my autumn nights looking around for new opportunities.

How to Rise Up from a College Rejection Like a Queen

0
0

As your first senior semester comes to a close, your first round of college decisions has started rolling in. While some of you may have received letters that feel like early Christmas presents, some of you may have gotten your first college rejection letter, a milestone you were hoping you’d never reach. The fact is, no matter how studious you are in high school, seldom do you get accepted into every single school you’ve applied to.

But when the college of your dreams, the one you’ve already set your whole heart on, turns you down, how do pick yourself up after that? Ladies, we’ve all been there. College rejections are not the end of the world; you can not only get past them but rise above them and show that school exactly what they’re missing out on.

You have total permission to feel sad

Rejection will come in a lot of different forms throughout your life, and it’ll never be painless. You’ve worked so hard your whole life to get into the college of your dreams and when you’re told “no,” it can feel like all those efforts were for nothing. Do we expect you to just shake it off and move on right away? No, you’re human after all. If you need a shoulder to cry on, reach out to your friends and family. Remember to physically, mentally and emotionally take care of yourself as you go through this turbulent time in your life. You may feel alone, but thousands of students across the country are in the same boat as you.

Ask why, but then accept and own the rejection

The biggest frustration with rejection is not knowing why you supposedly weren’t “good enough.” First of all, never believe you’re just not “good enough.” A college rejecting you doesn’t mean you’re mediocre. There are all kinds of variables that go into every acceptance and rejection decision. Sometimes it can come down to something as minuscule as the mood of the admissions officer who reviewed your application that day. If they were having a bad day when they looked at your application, they could’ve been harsher on you without realizing it. Real people are making these decisions and you’re smart enough to know that every decision a person makes comes with a degree of subjectivity. On the other hand, there could’ve just been a few things about your application that didn’t quite fit in with the school/program’s standards.

“You [could’ve] gotten rejected because whatever type of person that college wants to grow, the culture they have there is just not you, in their opinion,” says Morgan Mullings, a sophomore at St. John’s University. There are many occasions where your credentials aren’t seen as poor, but maybe just too different from the school’s expectations. Or if you applied for a school/program that has very specific requirements that you might not exactly meet, then there’s (unfortunately) some reasonable explanation as to why you were rejected.

Still, even the most talented students get rejected from the best colleges. Ultimately, you can’t weigh your worth from an admissions officer’s rejection of you. You’ve made it through almost four whole years of high school and if you’ve challenged yourself, worked tirelessly and are on track to graduate with flying colors then there’s no way you’re not good enough.

You can try to understand where you were lacking and work to better yourself in the future. If there are some cool perks about you that may not have interested one school, like your incredible writing skills or your creative graphic design talents, then embrace those qualities because another equally wonderful college will see them, love them and want you at their school.

You don’t have to take no for an answer

One thing to remember is just because your dream college said no this time doesn’t mean they’ll say no next time. Be realistic in your evaluation of why you didn’t get into that college. Were all your grades and test scores up to their average at least? Did you have some outstanding extracurriculars? Would your personal statement be confused with a Pulitzer Prize-winning autobiography? Ask yourself these questions. If you really feel like you only missed the mark by a bit and you really want to attend this university, then consider a community college or a gap year.

“Just because you didn't get into where you were hoping to get into, doesn't mean that it is a definite no. If this is your absolute dream school, you could try [two] years of community college near the university you were hoping for and potentially transfer in!” says Lauren MacDonald, a successful senior at the University of California, Santa Barbara, who actually transferred there herself! She’s living proof that this school path can work out splendidly.

On the flip side, the common issue we hear freshmen have with community college is that attending community college can make it seem like they’re settling instead of reaching higher. Other people's opinions on the choices you make for your own life shouldn't sway your decision-making. No matter what school you’re going to, university or community college, you’re only as good as the work and passion you put in. The school you go to doesn’t make you--YOU make you. And you can make that community college experience the most rewarding freshman and sophomore year experience of your life before you head off to your dream school in two years. It’s all up to you.

Plan your next step and get going

Accepting your dream school’s decision was the hard part, but when it comes down to it, this rejection is just a change in the game plan. Now it’s time to take matters back into your own hands and plan your next step. If you accept that your first-choice school isn’t for you, then that option is out of the way. Now you can reevaluate what your needs and wants are.

“I would use a rejection letter as an opportunity to reflect on what it is that I want, what it is that I need, and how I can go about achieving it. What I found helpful was making a list of pros and cons... I took into consideration the cost of tuition, the amount of scholarship money, [etc.],” Shirley adds.

If you’re waiting for other offers, then continue researching those colleges and renumber the best option as your first choice if you get accepted. If you’ve already received some acceptances, then really start to weigh all the academic and financial factors with other things like campus life, housing, weather and location. Sometimes a school you didn’t seriously consider before can offer up the most glorious opportunities.

“I got rejected from every single Ivy League university I applied to, which was honestly really frustrating. After crying for a week or two, I toughened up and eventually accepted a 7-year medical program offer from a local college near me," says Shereen Jeyakumar, a junior at Florida Atlantic University.  "It might not have been an Ivy League school like I had dreamed about, but I eventually realized that I never really knew much about those schools anyway--all I had cared about was the name. Now, I'm thriving here, getting tons of opportunities and really standing out."

A big fish always dominates the small pond, so maybe it’s time to start considering some smaller ponds that you will surely reign over.

Keep aiming high and don’t get discouraged

As you begin to brush off this setback and adjust your crown like the queen you are, be sure to remember this period in your life. Your first rejection from a college is a milestone you need to reach. Big rejections like these can happen just as easily in your love, family and professional life.

“I think it's important to know that you're going to face rejection the rest of your life. No matter who you are, and what you do, and how successful you are, you're going to face rejection,” says Hannah Harshe, a sophomore at the University of Michigan. “What's important is that you learn how to handle it because the people who can't handle it probably won't do as well in life. They will be too scared to take chances.”

Rejection challenges you, it makes you face the reality that you can always be better. It makes you look into yourself and realize “I’m great but I can be greater.” The most incredible people never settle; they always aim high. When you always climb toward the highest, most astounding opportunities the world has to offer, there’s always a chance you’ll fall down. But it’s always worth the risk.

“I recently got rejected from a program I really wanted to be a part of, and I cried harder than I ever have in my life, but after that, my mindset was, ‘Whoa, that was exhilarating. Let's do it again.’ Keep working hard and trying for things that are so cool they might reject you. Step outside your comfort zone. Rejection letters suck, but girl, you're gonna thrive so hard in life,” Hannah says.

Take notes from all these college queens of rejection and learn how to take life’s rejections and make them your b*tch.

How to Get Healthier Without Really Trying

Sometimes it feels impossible to live in a world where the ideal, 'beautiful' size is a zero. There have been thigh-gap trends, bikini-bridge fads and thigh-brow hashtags that constantly paint a picture of what women should strive to look like. Because of these unattainable weight and body goals, diet fads and quick ways to lose weight have become a common thing in our everyday lives. But how can we become a healthier version of ourselves without the BS and with as little exercise as possible?

Most experts say one of the most important things you can do is to put an emphasis on “health” and not “weight.” A majority of women won’t ever be a size zero; bone structures and typical weight loss just don’t allow for that. But you can lead a happy and healthy life by following these tips.

1. Don’t treat exercise as the end-all be-all

We read it in magazines, see ads on TV and spend hundreds of dollars on outfits for it: working out. But is it worth it? Some say, not really. “If you want to talk about weight loss then exercise has very little impact,” says Todd Whitthorne, a prominent national speaker and the president of ACAP Health Consulting. “In fact, for some folks, it even makes it harder to lose weight.” This doesn’t mean not to go for your morning run or stress-relieving yoga session. There are so many other benefits from your workout; however if you’re doing it solely to lose those few extra pounds or become a new person, size wise, it’s not going to cut it -- at least not by itself.

“Exercise has about a thousand benefits but weight loss is not one of them. It does help in weight loss maintenance and in the prevention of weight gain…but not in weight loss,” says Whitthorne. According to him, this is a very important takeaway, especially for college women trying and not seeing results.

2. Eat well, not with fads

To put it simply: diets do not work – at least not in the long run. There may be a change, possibly even a quick one; however, this is most likely due to a smaller intake of food and will only undo itself soon after. It’s more important to worry about the types of food you’re eating and not necessarily how much. “There’s a lot more to eating than just the number of calories we consume,” says Whitthorne. “Yes, the quantity is certainly a factor to consider. However, I believe that quality is of even greater importance.” If you’re eating a small bag of chips a day, yes, you’re consuming less calories than others. However, this is far inferior to a diet that includes multiple meals a day with foods containing actual substances, like vitamins and proteins, that your body needs.

Whitthorne recommends something along the lines of a Mediterranean diet, although not as a diet, but as a great starting point when thinking of exactly what foods you should and shouldn’t be eating:

  • A perfect foundation for meals include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, beans, nuts, legumes, seeds, herbs and spices

  • Try to eat eat fish and seafood at least twice a week

  • Chicken, turkey, eggs, cheese and yogurt are good in moderation

  • Obviously limit red meats, sugar and excessive salts

Carly Lockman, a certified holistic health coach, agrees. “Limiting or completely removing processed foods, especially processed sugars, from your diet is paramount,” says Lockman. And if you’re having a tough time making these health changes because you can’t see yourself giving up processed food? She says to give your body time to adjust to the real stuff. “We were created to eat real, unprocessed foods, so I think on a primal level, given enough time to detox from a processed foods diet, the mind really begins to gravitate toward, and love, healthy, whole foods,” says Lockman.

“Staying busy will also keep you from mindless snacking, which is extra, pointless calories,” says Sophia Walker, a senior at Bowdoin College. Walker is an athlete and picked up some good tidbits from her trainer. “Paying attention to what you eat is easy, too! Lots of healthy things have way more calories than you think they do! Peanut butter, for example.” She says that counting calories isn’t the most important thing, but that paying attention to what you’re consuming is the key.

3. Workout when you want to

All right, so even though exercising isn’t going to make you lose weight by itself, it will help maintain the body you’re getting from eating right!

Stuck on what workout tape to pop in or what new lifting method to do? Successful exercise mechanisms can be super simple. “In fact, it can be argued that practices which mimic more natural patterns of movement, like cleaning, yard work and gardening are more beneficial to the body overall and more effective at helping a person to maintain their optimal weight than hitting the gym,” says Lockman. And actual collegiettes agree! “Taking the stairs is always a great option, especially if you live in a dorm building,” says Amanda Goecke, a junior at Carthage College. “That way, you're getting in a little stair workout every day without really thinking too much about it.”

Lockman also says that “sitting is the new smoking,” so as long as you get moving, you’re doing the most! We all sit in class or at work way too long sometimes, but she said even stretching for 20 minutes will help and make an impact in the long run.

4. Eat to power your body, not just because you’re hungry

Conscious eating is definitely an important factor when thinking about effortless ways to lose weight. Some people like to munch when they’re bored or snack as soon as they get home. While you might think you’re hungry, you should ask yourself: “Am I really, though?” And, of course, if you decide that you need to eat, get something with protein or that’s healthy.

This can also be said about breakfast. In America especially, we assume that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Whitthorne mentioned the 2014 study done by The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that showed breakfast “had no discernable effect on weight loss in free-living adults who were attempting to lose weight.”

But if you’re on the pro-breakfast train,  it is a way to fuel your body for the rest of the day and hopefully curb your hunger until lunch. Goecke is of this mindset. “Eating breakfast with a full glass of water is always good rather than skipping it - that way you wake up your metabolism,” she says. “I also recommend talking to a doctor or doing an online calculator based off of your weight, age, activity level, etc. to see how much water you should be drinking! Proper water intake helps curb unnecessary snacking.” Goecke ran cross country and track in college and has had her fair share of experience with doctors and nutritionists.

For a great breakfast to power you all the way through the afternoon, Whitthorne recommends something full of fiber, such as Greek yogurt with Kashi cereal, granola and almonds, an omelet or scrambled eggs, or oatmeal. A breakfast smoothie as also a quick option!

And going for coffee with your breakfast is a good idea too (or any time of the day for that matter, because let’s be honest, who only drinks coffee in the morning?). “Coffee suppresses your appetite and raises your metabolism,” says Walker. “It can be dehydrating though, so make sure to drink water to compensate. Black coffee has no calories, if you like it black!”

So, in case working out seems tedious or scary to you, start slow and know that you don’t need to do that in order to lose weight. It’s important to orient your health around you. Eat foods that you enjoy, work out when you have the most fun and adopt healthy habits that not only benefit you and your body, but that are easy for you to do. Trying to change yourself or your habits just because society has told you that’s what’s acceptable won’t stick. Be a healthier you because for yourself and you’ll surely see results.

HC Wake-Up Call: House Secretly Used $150,000 of Taxpayer Money to Settle Sexual Harassment Claims, GOP Tax Bill May Need Yet Another Vote & Twitter Is Purging Neo-Nazi Accounts

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

The House of Representatives Secretly Used $150,000 of Taxpayer Money for Sexual Harassment Settlements

Not only is sexual misconduct clearly a problem on Capitol Hill, but according to the New York Times, the House of Representatives also used $150,000 of taxpayer money between 2008 and 2012 to settle sexual misconduct cases. While very little detail is available on which members of Congress were involved due to strict nondisclosure agreements as part of the settlement process, the settlement amounts ranged from  $8,000 to $15,225, suggesting Congress settled *a lot* of cases.

The GOP Tax Bill Has Passed in the House...but They May Need to Vote on It Again

The controversial Republican tax bill, which will sharply reduce taxes on corporations, passed the House of Representatives on Tuesday in a 227-203 vote, BuzzFeed News reports. Except that, the House may actually need to vote on the bill *again* later this week. The bill will need some additional small changes in order to pass in the Senate under a rule that allows bills to pass with only 51 votes, meaning that once it (likely) does pass, the tweaked version will need to return to the House for another vote.

Twitter Is Currently Working on Purging Neo-Nazi Accounts (Finally)

The Twitter accounts of multiple white nationalists, neo-Nazis and members of the "alt-right," have been deleted over the last two days following Twitter's announcement of new rules implemented to decrease hate speech on the platform. The rules make an effort to "reduce hateful and abusive content," by banning accounts that make "specific threats of violence or wish for the serious physical harm, death, or disease of an individual or group of people," as well as accounts that affiliate with organizations that do so. Those kicked off the platform so far include white nationalist Richard Spencer, and Jayda Fransen, the leader of Britain First, the anti-Muslim extremist group President Trump retweeted earlier this month.

What to look out for...

Humbug Day is tomorrow — so if you're just not about all that holiday ~cheer~ and are completely and utterly tired of hearing Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" everywhere you go, tomorrow is the day when no one is allowed to judge you for acting like a total grinch.

With One Vote, This Virginia State House Seat Was Flipped & That Says A Lot About The Power Of Showing Up To Elections

After a recount of votes on Tuesday night, it was determined that Democrats will make up at least half of Virginia’s state House of Delegates. According to The Hill, “Shelly Simonds (D) gained a net of 11 votes, enough to hand her victory over incumbent Del. David Yancey (R) by a single vote.”

These eleven votes brought the contest to 11,608-11,607 in what the New York Timescalls “a civics lesson in every-vote counts.”

This will be the first time in two decades that Democrats make up at least half of the House of Delegates in the state. Prior to the recount, it was determined that Republicans had a 51-49 majority, which meant that Republicans had lost fifteen seats to Democrats. This was seen as a response to Trump’s unpopularity in his first year as POTUS.

The information that Republicans no longer control the State House, of course, is interpreted as an even bigger “F you, Trump” than the first count implied.

The margin by which Simonds won speaks volumes to the power of showing up to elections. According to FairVote, the US has a lower voter turnout than most established democracies. In recent elections, only about 60% of the voting eligible population votes during presidential election years, and 40% of the voting eligible population votes during midterm elections. These numbers are even lower for younger voting eligible citizen: according to The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement, only about 50% of eligible voters ages 18-29 voted in the 2016 election, which is about the same percentage as the 2012 election.

I don’t want to live in a world of “what if’s,"  but imagine how different the world might be today if that percentage had been 90% or even 75%. And, of course, we can imagine “what if” one or two of the Democrat voters hadn’t shown up to the Virginia House of Delegates elections. Your vote has power!

Woman Pleads Guilty After Fatally Shooting Her Boyfriend During A Youtube Challenge Video

Your mom always told you not to do anything stupid on the Internet, right? Well, Monalisa Perez of Halstad, Minn., proved that the quest for likes can have much more devastating effects than simply coughing up cinnamon.

According tothe New York Times, in June, Perez had her boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz III, hold a thick encyclopedia in front of his chest for a YouTube video. She stood about a foot away and shot the book with the apparent belief that the bullet would not make it through. Unfortunately, the book did not prove to be the shield she believed it would be, and the bullet fatally wounded 22-year-old Ruiz.

Perez pled guilty to second-degree manslaughter on Friday. Some media reports claim that the plea agreement calls for her to serve 180 years in jail and spend 10 years on supervised probation, while other reports state that a judge will determine her sentence.

StarTribune reports that the plea deal also prevents Perez from “making any financial compensation” off of the video of Ruiz’s death, and that she is “banned from possessing firearms for the rest of her life.”

Perez and Ruiz had been posting YouTube videos for several weeks beforehand. The videos were fairly innocent, and showed pranks and stunts intended to make their audience laugh.

Prior to the shooting, Perez tweeted, “Me and Pedro are probably going to shoot one of the most dangerous videos ever. HIS idea not MINE.” The New York Times states that Ruiz had wanted to film this stunt for a long time, and had even shot himself with a book in front of his chest to prove that it works. At the time of the shooting, Perez and Ruiz had a three-year-old daughter and were pregnant with their second child. Perez has since given birth to the second child.

This heartbreaking story is in line with several other stories in which someone lost everything in order to gain a few likes.

Lady Gaga Has Announced That She's Getting Her Own Las Vegas Show

If you were bummed that you missed Britney Spears' residency in Las Vegas, don't panic — because Lady Gaga has announced she'll be taking her place at MGM's Park Theater for a two year run in the city.

As Variety reports, Gaga is set to perform a total of 74 dates over two years starting in late 2018 — meaning, if you didn't catch her on tour, you'll have plenty of time to make your way to Vegas to catch her performing everything from "Poker Face" to "Joanne."

"I'll leave my heart on the stage every single night," Gaga said, after announcing the good news. "Thank you to my fans for always believing in me. Meet me in Las Vegas baby, we did it!"

As Refinery29 notes, this could be good news for Gaga fans for more reasons than one, since it could also possibly open up opportunities for the singer to explore other projects outside of music. (And considering how much we loved her in American Horror Story: Hotel, we'd gladly welcome more opportunities for Gaga to appear on our fave TV shows.) On a more personal note, the stability of staying in one place and allowing the fans to come to her could also help her better manage the chronic pain she deals with as a result of her fibromyalgia.

Though Britney will end her four year run in the city on New Year's Eve of this year, Gaga will still be in good company — other headliners performing at MGM next year include Bruno Mars and Cher.

If this isn't a good reason to head to Vegas sometime in the next two years, I don't know what is.

Mindy Kaling Gave Birth to a Baby Girl & the Name She Chose Is Adorable

Queen Mindy Kaling has given birth to her first child, a daughter, and the name Mindy gave her could not be more perfect. Katherine Kaling was born on December 15, according to E! News, though Mindy's reps have yet to confirm the news.

Kaling is not public about her relationship status and is choosing to remain tight-lipped about the identity of Katherine’s father. "My professional life is the only thing that I feel I have a lot of control over—romantic stuff is a little bit more mysterious," she said to American Way magazine in September.

News broke back in July that Kaling was pregnant with her first child, who was, "an unexpected surprise," and Kaling confirmed the news on the Today show in August. "It’s so unknown to me," she told Today. "I have a lot of control over a lot of aspects of my life, and this is one where I’m like, 'OK, it’s out of my hands,' which is kind of a fun feeling."

Other than her Today interview, Kaling has mostly chosen to let her co-stars and friends talk about her pregnancy. Her Mindy Project costars revealed to Us Weekly in September that she was expecting a girl, and Kaling confirmed this on The Ellen DeGeneres Show the following month. “I am not waiting," Kaling said. “I wanted to know early.”

Kaling’s Wrinkle in Time costar Oprah Winfrey has also talked to press about baby Katherine, but Kaling wasn't too upset about it.. "At first it was like, 'OK, if anyone was going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey is the person.' You can’t complain that much about it. You also can’t be like, 'Hey Oprah, zip it.' Because she’s almost like a religious figure," Kaling said to Ellen Degeneres. "I actually thought, ‘Well, OK, if there’s one person I have to tell my daughter about that revealed her existence to the world, Oprah’s pretty good.'"

And who wouldn't want to gush to Oprah about their child? Congrats to both mom and baby, who I’m sure is absolutely gorgeous and is going to grow up laughing nonstop.

Apparently Arie Luyendyk Jr. Was Supposed to Be on 'The Bachelor' Years Ago

Bachelor fans all over the world were a bit confused when Arie Luyendyk Jr. was announced as the newest Bachelor back in September, considering his appearance on The Bachelorette was nearly five years ago.

But according to former bachelor Sean Lowe, Arie was actually this close to nabbing the role back in 2015. I’ve been lobbying for Arie forever," Lowe, who competed with Arie for Emily Maynard’s heart on season eight of The Bachelorette told Entertainment Tonight. "I think they actually told him he was going to be the Bachelor the year they told Christ Soules. They even filmed some of [Arie’s] intro package in Arizona and ultimately pulled the rug out from underneath him in the end."

A post shared by Arie Luyendyk (@ariejr) on

This isn’t the first time Lowe has gushed about his pal. "Arie has got a great personality," Lowe said to Us Weekly. "He’s kind of quirky. He knows he’s nerdy, which I think is endearing. He definitely doesn't play the cool guy part. He knows who he is and doesn't put on any fronts. He’s just a nerdy race car driver."

Luyendyk says Lowe, who found love with Catherine Giudici during his own stint as the Bachelor, also apparently offered him some advice. “I think the best piece of advice was just to be present in every conversation and really make the person who you’re talking to in that moment feel like they’re the only one there," Arie recently told Her Campus on a conference call interview. "I think that was really important for me, just to make sure I was a good listener and that I was involved in every conversation, and made them [the contestants] feel like they weren't just one out of 29."

Many Bachelor fans were shocked when the announcement of the newest Bachelor broke, mainly because many did not even know who he was. Fans were hoping that one of the fan favorites from Rachel Lindsay’s season, Peter Krause, would appear as the Bachelor. For anyone that has only started watching the franchise in the past few years Luyendyk is an interesting choice, but we’ll just have to see where it goes. I for one cannot wait for the newest season. Is it January 1 yet?

You Can Now Own the Clothes Rebel Wilson Designed for 'Pitch Perfect 3'& We're Ready to Channel Fat Amy IRL

Life for Rebel Wilson during Pitch Perfect 3, the third movie in the aca-amazing series following The Garden Bellas, must have been pretty busy. Between singing and acting as her fan-favorite character, Fat Amy, she still found the time to design the killer costumes that she wore throughout the movie.

She explained to People, “I know there’s a lot of plus-size girls and women out there who love my character, and I wanted them to have the opportunity to look like her.” All of the pieces that she designed for the movie are under her new label Rebel Wilson x Angels, a line made entirely for plus-sized babes. Considering that the average size of an American woman is between a size 16-18, there are not many options to choose from. Many designers, especially high-end ones, refuse to expand the size range of their line, limiting girls who don’t fall into small sizing.

Wilson explains, “There is still so little choice out there online and in stores for the plus-size customer. So my goal is that Rebel Wilson x Angels fills this gap and encourages more designers to create plus ranges.” A plus-size fashion line that allows for women to take clothes from the "big screen" straight to their closet is revolutionary.

Wilson engaged in this project, unsure if her clothing would ever hit stores. “Without knowing when and if the brand might be released, I designed pieces specifically to wear in Pitch Perfect 3 with the hope that I’d be able to sell these when the movie came out.” Fortunately for her, her clothing line is releasing not only around the same time as the hit movie, but just in time for the holidays as well.

While these clothes may be designed with a glamoros, accapella singer in mind, they are still wearable for the everyday girl. “Fat Amy is a girl, like myself, who is very comfortable in her own skin. She doesn’t need super expensive clothes or anything fancy. She wears pretty much ‘every day’ clothes but wears them boldly.”

Here are some of our favorites from the collection:

Rebel Wilson X Angels Plus Sequin Dress ($198 at Dillards)

Rebel Wilson X Angels Women’s Plus Size Suede Moto Jacket ($298 at Amazon)

Rebel Wilson x Angels Sequin Dress ($269 at Nordstrom)

Rebel Wilson x Angels Embroidered Mesh Dress ($169 at Nordstrom)

Rebel Wilson x Angels “Watch Me Take A Nap” T-shirt ($49 at additionelle.com)

The entire collection is available at retailers like Dillards, Amazon, Nordstrom, and Additional Elle. While you might not be entering an accapella contest this holiday season, these pieces can take you from a chill day at home to your New Years Eve party no problem.

No Work Experience? Here are 5 Other Things to Fill Your Resume

0
0

There’s one age-old question that plagues many young people starting their careers: How do I get work experience without work experience? It’s a catch-22 that can make many college students and young adults feel stuck, hopeless and anxious about their futures.

But there is hope.

For those of you who have yet to score your first internship or didn’t work a retail job in high school, you’re in luck. There are plenty of other assets worthy of your resume that will impress any employer. Here are a few add-ons that can, temporarily, take the place of a job on your resume.

1. Volunteer Experience

Many college students will recall community service as an integral part of their high school experience, whether it was a requirement for graduation or a way to explore their passions. Just because you’re no longer in high school does not mean that those experiences aren’t still valuable today.

A display of volunteer experience can teach a hiring manager a great deal about your personality, values and work ethic.

For Amanda Goecke, a junior at Carthage College, including volunteer experience in her resume was vital since she had never previously held a job. She says, “[Volunteering] helps to show that you're willing to do things without pay and would rather focus on the experience you gain.” In this way, you might open yourself up to unpaid internships more easily, since you’ve proven that you can find motivation in work beyond money.

2. Objective Statement

Without work experience, your resume won’t clearly explain your career goals and what type of internship you’re looking for.

A strong objective statement is the perfect addition to a resume lacking in weight. Just 1-2 sentences can tell a story about your strengths, interests and aspirations. This, as a result, can make your resume more appealing to a hiring manager who might have trouble connecting the dots while navigating a list of experience in areas unrelated to your major.

Kiara Moore, a previous tech recruiter, understands the ability of an objective statement to help tailor your resume. She says, “The objective statement can be key in directing the hiring manager to focus on key qualifications that you want to stand out.  For example, if you feel like it’s a stretch to say that you have any direct experience in the industry you’re targeting, the objective is an essential addition.”

3. Sports

Any student-athlete will tell you that the skills they’ve gained while on a team have helped their performance not just in that sport, but also in life. The amount of commitment expected of a college sport is commendable, proving your ability to manage your time efficiently and balance your priorities.

Additionally, participating in a sport displays teamwork, perseverance and trust—all skills necessary for a successful intern at any company.

4. Student Clubs

While this may be the most obvious of all of the additional assets, it might also be the most important.

Involvement in campus organizations early on in your college career shows determination and an eagerness to take on a leadership role in your community. It is especially helpful to be involved in a club related to your industry of choice, but any organization will display your passions and interests.

5. School Experiences

The “Education” section of your resume need not be the only place in which you discuss your college and/or high school education.

Fill in some of that empty space and highlight courses you’ve taken that are related to your field of interest. This will show employers that, while you haven’t yet worked in their industry, you’re taking the steps necessary to move forward in your career via your choice in major and/or minor.

In the same vein, relevant school projects or research for a professor are equally important in showing that, when presented with a task, you can get the job done and do it well. Keep in mind that this shouldn't be the meatiest portion of your resume, but is helpful to include if you have extra room.

It’s not easy to obtain that first job or internship, and you need to start somewhere. These tips will provide substantial material to beef up your resume and appear desirable to any employer.

Happy resume writing, collegiettes!

Harvey Weinstein's Ex Assistant Says Her Former Boss Was a 'Repulsive Monster'

After nearly two decades of being forced to remain silent due to a nondisclosure agreement she'd signed 20 years ago, Zelda Perkins is speaking out about her experience as Harvey Weinstein's personal assistant.

In her first-ever interview since multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, assault and rape were first brought against the producer, Perkins told Newsnight that she was forced to resign and agree to a settlement totaling $168,000 after she accused Weinstein of attempting to rape her colleague. She says that during a trip to the Venice Film Festival in 1998, an anonymous colleague of hers approached her after the producer, who she calls a "repulsive monster" in the interview, had tried to rape her.

"She was shaking, very distressed, and clearly in shock," Perkins says in the interview. "She didn't want anybody to know and was absolutely terrified of the consequences. I spoke with her and tried to calm her down before confronting Harvey face to face."

Perkins' story only becomes more appalling from there — she says that when she and the unnamed colleague tried to take legal action, they were informed by lawyers that, due to their lack of physical evidence, there wasn't much that could be done. From there, both women resigned from the company and signed nondisclosure agreements that they were never allowed to have copies of and were only allowed to read under supervision.

“It’s not just distressing for me, but for lots of women who have not been able to own their past, and for many of them, their trauma," Perkins told Newsnight. "Although the process I went through was legal, it was immoral."

Perkins later calls for change regarding the laws that protected Weinstein from being outed by his many victims for years, saying, "You cannot have a legal document that protects a criminal. This isn’t someone who sold you a dodgy car."
