Selena Gomez & Taylor Swift Became Friends While Dating the Jonas Brothers, & 2008 Me Has Been Resurrected

Taylor Swift is notorious for her squad that includes powerful women like Lorde, her BFF Abigail Anderson and Selena Gomez. Sel and T. Swift have been friends for a while now, and the story of how their friendship came to be will make your late 2000s heart explode.

In an interview with KISS FM Britain, Selena revealed that we can thank the Jonas Brothers for bringing the besties together. The two were dating Nick Jonas and Joe Jonas around the same time—Nick was with Selena, and Joe was with Taylor—and that's how they met and immediately became friends. "It was amazing, because [Taylor] was the girl with the big curly hair and all the bracelets and the cowboy boots. And I was definitely up-and-coming, and we just clicked." Aww!

Neither of them is dating any member of the Jonas family now, but Selena made sure to remind us that chapter is closed and everyone is on good terms. “It was the best thing we got out of those relationships,” Sel said. “They’re lovely, by the way. We’re all friends now. We were young, you know, it’s a different time.” I know Taylor wrote "Forever and Always" about Joe's breakup faux pas, but don't worry—her only bad blood rn seems to be with Kimye.

This interview makes me so happy. Not only am I nostalgic for the time when the Jonas Brothers were still together and making music, but I'm also glad Selena and Tay found each other. There's nothing better than seeing two powerful women join forces and run the world together.

Al Franken Resigned From His Senate Seat & Called Out Trump Allegations But He Didn't Really Apologize

Al Franken, the Democratic U.S. Senator of Minnesota who has been accused of sexual harassment by multiple women, has announced that he plans to resign in the next few weeks, BBC News reports. Unfortunately, while he did manage to call out allegations against President Donald Trump in the process, his announcement was seemingly unapologetic (and quite frankly, pretty insulting).

Franken, whose resignation was called for by up to 30 Democratic Senators on Wednesday, BBC News reports, said in a speech to the U.S. Senate floor just a day later that he will be stepping down from his position. "Today I am announcing that in the coming weeks I will be resigning as a member of the United States Senate," he told the floor.

"I am proud that during my time in the Senate that I have used my power to be a champion of women," said Franken, who says that although he is giving up his seat, he is not "giving up his voice." Ironically enough, while Franken has apologized to some of his accusers, he also claims that some of the accusations are not true—while at the same time adding the sentiment that women "deserve to be heard and their experiences taken seriously". (Some champion of women, huh?)

Franken did take a moment to note a different irony of the situation, calling out Donald Trump for his history of sexual misconduct, BBC News reports.

"I, of all people, am aware that there is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office, and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the Senate with the full support of his party," says Franken.

Bernie Sanders took to Twitter to share his feelings about Donald Trump's position.

"We have a president who acknowledged on tape that he assaulted women. I would hope that he pays attention to what's going on and think about resigning," he writes.

J.K. Rowling Explains Why She's Okay With Johnny Depp's 'Fantastic Beasts' Casting Despite Controversy

There has been a lot of media buzz and understandable controversy among Harry Potter fans surrounding the decision to keep Johnny Depp in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film series. Given the domestic abuse allegations made against the actor by his ex-wife Amber Heard in 2016, many have been upset and angry about Depp’s continued involvement with the franchise. Demands for his removal have been met with relative silence from the big names behind the series, most notably from Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.

Rowling has now addressed the controversy and defended Depp's casting. Rowling, who is also the screenwriter for the first and second Fantastic Beasts movies, spoke out on her website about the justifiable unease regarding the choice to keep Depp in the role of the mysterious and evil Gellert Grindelwald.

In a statement, Rowling wrote that she was originally concerned about the domestic abuse claims surrounding Depp in the press. The author claimed that she and Fantastic Beasts director David Yates considered recasting the role, but she conceded, “The agreements that have been put in place to protect the privacy of two people, both of whom have expressed a desire to get on with their lives, must be respected. Based on our understanding of the circumstances, the filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies.”

Rowling said it was hard for her to stay silent as fans became outraged, but she firmly stands by the decision to keep Depp in the films, noting that she's aware not everyone will be satisfied with this choice. "Within the fictional world and outside it, we all have to do what we believe to be the right thing," she wrote.

Along with Rowling and Yates, Warner Bros. has also chosen to stick by Depp. The studio remarked on the “complexity” of the issues involved but ultimately settled on allowing Depp to proceed with his role as Grindelwald in future films.

Sophie Turner Just Revealed That 'Game of Thrones' Won't Return Until 2019

Fans of the acclaimed HBO series Game of Thrones are in for major disappointment if they were anticipating the release of Season 8 in 2018. Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, revealed in an interview with Varietythat the next Game of Thrones season won't released anytime soon.

“I’m really excited. Game of Thrones comes out in 2019," she said. WHAT???

The delay in the show’s release could be due to a few reasons, namely the fact that it’s the last season of the series. HBO president Casey Bloys explained, “Creatively, it’s my understanding that the final season is going to be extremely cinematic—so much so that there was an urge behind the scenes for years to end the show with a movie.” Given that the show has countless expectations to live up to and eager fans who are desperate to see the ending of their beloved fantasy series executed perfectly, it comes as no surprise that Game of Thronesproducers are taking their time to make sure it’s done right.

Sophie also noted that they're still in the very early stages of production, which means she has other things to look forward to in the new year. Turner will be starring in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which is set to release in early November 2018. Fans of the talented actress will be able to get their fix in this anticipated Marvel movie, but the looming end of the show that she's starred in since she was 14 is becoming more of a reality. Turner noted, “When we all had the read-through for the final season, it was very, very emotional.”

It’s safe to say that the cast and crew of Game of Thrones won’t be the only emotional ones when the beloved series ends. The extended wait to see how everything unfolds is only riling up my anticipation, but I'm hopeful that the ending will be done with the justice the show deserves.

Ed Sheeran Would Sing Meghan Markle & Prince Harry’s First Dance Song if Asked, So What Are They Waiting for?

On Nov. 27, Suits actress Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement after dating for about a year-and-a-half. Ever since the announcement, eager royal watchers have been making guesses about every aspect of the couple’s May 2018 nuptials.

Speculations about the venue (St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle), the cake (banana flavor), potential wedding guests (Priyanka Chopra and Serena Williams), and, of course, what dress Meghan will wear during the ceremony have already been made. So, what else is there to plan?

Well, on Friday, some guesses were made about the music that might accompany the happy couple’s first dance. Ed Sheeran, after receiving the MBE (a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire), was asked if he would like to sing at the royal wedding. Though he hasn’t ~officially~ been asked, Sheeran’s response was classic Ed: a resounding “Yeah, why not?”

While I don’t know about their personal music preferences, Meghan and Harry should definitely take Ed up on his offer. I mean, he’s the king of swoon-worthy, romantic songs. Personally, I can think of a number of his songs that would make great first dance songs (“Thinking Out Loud,” “Photograph” and “Perfect” all come to mind).

Whether they go with Ed or another option, one thing is for sure. Meghan and Prince Harry’s day will be special and romantic—not because of their wedding singer, but because of the incredible love they share.

Meghan Markle Will Reportedly Be the First Unofficial Spouse to Spend Christmas With the Royal Family

If you thought meeting your boyfriend’s parents this holiday season was going to be intimidating, imagine spending three days with the Queen of England and the rest of the royal family. Meghan Markle is reportedly breaking royal boundaries and modernizing the monarchy once again as the first unofficial spouse to get an invite to the royal family’s holiday festivities.

According to Us WeeklyPrince Harry's bride-to-be will be spending Christmas with the royal family, a departure from the “spouses only” tradition. And she’s got the go ahead from the Queen herself.

The Suits actress will spend 72 hours with her fiancé and future in-laws at the Queen's annual Sandringham gathering. The days’ festivities reportedly include a black tie dinner, a speech from the Queen and the exchange of gag gifts among the family.

Although Prince William waited five years to introduce his future wife Kate Middleton to his grandmother, Harry was excited to introduce Meghan to “the example I aspire to,” as he once referred to her. They first met in September, and Meghan had only glowing things to say about the monarch in her official engagement interview.

“To be able to meet her through his lens, not just with his honor and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother, all of those layers have been so important for me,” she said. “So that when I met her, I had such a deep understanding and of course incredible respect for being able to have that time with her.”

This Christmas will just be a preview of what Meghan's life will be like once she and Harry get married in May. Hopefully, it’s the first of many merry Christmases for the couple.

Kylie Cosmetics Is Dropping 20 Lipstick Shades & You Won't Believe How Good They Are

It doesn't seem like Kylie Jenner's cosmetic line will ever stop growing, and this holiday season we're so thankful for that, tbh. Yesterday the reality star, model and businesswomen-extraordinaire announced on Instagram that she's dropping 20 new lipstick shades this month––and yes, these are way different than the lip kits you're used to.

A post shared by @KylieCosmetics gave followers a sneak peek at the Silver Series, filled with ultra-pigmented, creamy and satin finish lippies that'll be dropping on December 13 for $17 each. Shades range from a bright pink "Raspberry Charlotte" to a fiery orange "Sherbet." Of course, no Kylie line is complete without a handful of classic nudes as well.

Sweet like SHERBET Can’t wait for you guys to try the smooth, soft creamy formula of our new lipsticks. #SilverSeries

This, along with the recent announcement of her upcoming range of shade-inclusive concealers means that Kylie Cosmetics is truly establishing itself as a stand-out brand. Who else is dying for it be Dec.13 already?

The Fenty Beauty Community Had the Best Response to a Girl Who Was Told Her Lips Are "Too Big" for Red Lipstick

Fenty Beauty is more than just a cosmetic brand by Rihanna––it's a community of sisters coming together to empower! Take Grace Boye for example, a beautiful 20-year-old from sunny California who received negative comments that her lips were “too big" to wear red lipstick. Um, do these haters even know how fast I would sell my soul to get lips like hers?

Boye was dying to try Fenty Beauty's Stunna Lip Paint, a bold red that's made to complement most skin tones. She commented on Fenty's IG saying, “I want to try this out soo bad. I’ve been told red doesn't suit me…my lips are too big…:(" Naturally, Fenty Beauty and co. were quick to respond with encouragement.

The #FENTYBEAUTY sisterhood is real!! We ya’ll. (Comments on a recent #stunna post on @fentybeauty).

A post shared by FENTY BEAUTY BY RIHANNA (@fentybeauty) on

Boye told Buzzfeed she has received hate from her peers time and time again about having big lips. Thankfully, she's received a ton of positive encouragement on social media after replies flooded in promoting self-love. Fenty Beauty even posted the comment thread on their Instagram with the caption, “The #FentyBeauty sisterhood is real!!” Good Girl Riri has made it clear once again that this red is for EVERYONE.

What You Need to Know About Kylie Cosmetics' 30 New Concealer Shades

Kylie Cosmetics revealed today that they will be releasing 30 concealer shades on Dec. 13, and for most beauty gurus this day couldn't get any better. According to Bustle, the concealers are supposed to be "buildable yet lightweight," making it the obvious go-to for covering up those finals week dark circles and stress breakouts. While we doubt the concealer's price will leave you dorm-less, they'll probably sell out within a nanosecond like all other Kylie products, so you'll want to get a jump on your shopping as soon as they drop online.

Skin Concealer Swatches. Stay tuned for more throughout the week!

A post shared by Kylie Cosmetics (@kyliecosmetics) on

While it’s clear that Kylie spent an immense amount of time creating the concealer shades, People also suggests that Kylie Cosmetics was inspired to release a wider range of concealer options after Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty released 40 different shades of foundation, igniting a serious move of inclusiveness in the makeup community.

Kylie Cosmetics, which made nearly half a million in profits after the company’s first 18 months, also teased us with some non-liquid lipsticks (you know, that stuff that used to be popular before matte liquid lipsticks stole the show).

It’s clear from the Instagram teasers that Kylie’s concealer will be on everyone’s holiday wishlist. After all, Kylie even carefully crafted the concealer’s applicator. According to Cosmopolitan, the makeup magnate shared on her personal Snapchat that she “picked this paddle because it adds the perfect amount of product and you only have to dip it once in the bottle.” Although Kylie says we only need to dunk the concealer wand once to cure our beautifully sleep-deprived faces, we all know we’re going to dip at least 12 times like the extra women we are.

Sassafras, Almond, Cinnamon, Toffee and Gingerbread, for deep skintones. Coming Dec 13 #SilverSeries

A post shared by Kylie Cosmetics (@kyliecosmetics) on

While it’s amazing that Kylie is releasing a spectrum of shades, it might be difficult for most people to find their perfect color when they can’t actually swatch the products in person. Maybe this would give the brand a substantial reason to open stores around the world, so everyone can have the chance to test these little beauties.

True Queen Zendaya Stopped an Interview to Fix a Reporter's Hair & It Was Perfect

If you aren’t a stan of Zendaya Coleman yet, then you will be after knowing that she stopped an interview to fix a reporter's hair and help save his look. BLESS. During an interview with The Greatest Showman co-star Zac Efron, Zendaya paused a conversation with FilmWebTV to help reign in that flyaway. While some people might just ignore the interviewer’s style mishap, Zendaya proved yet again that she’s the queen of class and also being totally lowkey.

Teen Vogue reports that Zendaya walked up to the reporter, saying, “This is gonna bother me. You have one piece of hair… I got you.” Sure, we're mildly jealous that we weren't the ones touched by her holy hands, but we also can’t help but wonder how much better our lives (and style) would be if there were more people like Z out there? We’ve all had those moments when we’ve found stray pieces of food in our teeth or mascara streaking under our eyes, so it would be great if more people could be as transparent and just help each other out.

In a world full of Karens who sit through an entire lunch break without telling you that your left false eyelash somehow slipped down your face and onto your upper lip, surround yourself with Zendayas instead (or just be more like Zendaya in general). After all, we all have to look out for each other.

Former 'The Voice' Contestant Melanie Martinez Denies a Female Friend's Allegations That She Sexually Abused Her

0
0

In a move that sheds new light on the typical circumstances of sexual assault cases, former The Voice contestant Melanie Martinez has denied accusations that she sexually assaulted her female friend, CNN reports.

Martinez, who competed on the third season of The Voice, addressed friend Timothy Heller's allegations in a statement shared on Twitter, writing, "What she and I shared was a close friendship for a period of time. We came into each other's lives as we were both starting out our careers as artists, and we tried to help each other...She never said no to what we chose to do together. And although we parted ways, I am sending her love and light always."

Heller, who is best known for previously being in the band Dresses, also posted her side of the story on Twitter, going into detail about her allegedly inappropriate encounters with Martinez. Sharing that Martinez let her down in the darkest period of her life yet, Heller wrote, "Her power and control over me grew and grew. And I was silenced...Our friendship was about her. The power she had over grew into me having a very hard time saying no to her."

Having previously experienced sexual abuse, Heller was understandably uncomfortable discussing sex. After smoking weed together one night, Martinez began asking her if she would have sex with her, which she had also discussed with Heller the previous night. Heller, who had a boyfriend at the time, was so "exhausted and confused and high and belittled" that she "just allowed it to happen." Heller claimed that she said "no" repeatedly through the encounter.

"I was molested by my best friend," Heller wrote. "It doesn't matter that I didn't resist during the action. I had been broken down...I beg you to imagine her role in this being a man. Girls can rape girls. Best friends can rape best friends."

US Weekly reports that, in response to Martinez's statement claiming that Heller "never said no" to their actions together, Heller told Newsweek, "I did say ‘no,’ multiple times. But even if I hadn’t, that doesn’t mean I wanted it. She dug her own grave saying, ‘she didn’t say no’. That’s not consent.”

In her statement, Heller said that the two's friendship ended because Martinez "didn't have time for me anymore." Regardless of the circumstances of how the women's bond broke, Heller's decision to come forward with her story highlights often lesser-known aspects of sexual assault: being harmed by someone you're close with, and ending up in a painful situation because of a friend of the same sex's actions. We applaud her for sharing this emotional story to spread more awareness about sexual assault.

Don't Worry, Bachelor Nation: Danielle Maltby Approves of Wells Adams and Sarah Hyland's Relationship

0
0

Blame it on the past few months' crazy news cycle, but I'm already viewing the past season of Bachelor in Paradise as a far more innocent time. Ironically enough, the season that kicked off with sexual misconduct allegations on set turned out to be a little dull, sans for bartender Wells Adams finally going for it with longtime friend Danielle Maltby. The two shared quite the kiss when Maltby chose to leave the show for a job opportunity, and Bachelor Nation lit up with fervent shipping of the adorable-seeming pair.

Several months later, as the cast of Grease would say, fans' summer dreams of Adams and Maltby pairing up IRL "are ripped at the seams." After he and Maltby repeatedly said they could never actually date together, Adams has gone public with his relationship with Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland, and they're honestly pretty cute together. Although, of course anyone following the Bachelor franchise wants to know how Maltby is doing with the news.

"I'm so happy for him,"she recently said to reporters. "I've met Sarah—Sarah is amazing. They bounce off each other so well. They bring out the best in each other...the smile that Wells gets on his face is unreal. It's so cute."

Hyland has also made an effort to get to know Adams' friends, as Maltby even shared that the actress gets in touch with her when visiting Adams in Nashville. While anybody with great faith in Bachelor Nation's matchmaking may be disappointed, I'm definitely thrilled that Maltby and Adams have remained great friends even after their almost-summer fling.

I Took Dating Advice From My Teenage Brother & Here's What Happened

0
0

If you know me, you know I’m single. It’s just part of who I am. In fact, the other day at my cousin’s wedding, one of my relatives asked if there’s “anyone special” in my life. Before I could even answer, another relative chimed in and said, “Oh, you know Hannah. She’s dating her books.”

I couldn’t even bring myself to be offended by that because it’s so incredibly true. I realized, maybe I should put myself out there a little bit. Try dating, just to see if anything happens. So, naturally, I turned to my 15-year-old brother for advice.

Now, if you know me, you know my brother’s the last person to whom I would usually turn for dating advice. Actually, if you know me, this is the point where you’re probably saying, “Wait, she has a brother?” Yes, I have a brother. His name is Sam and he’s a sophomore in high school and you haven’t heard of him because he’s always either working out for soccer or doing recreational math, so he doesn’t have much time for me. Rumor has it he’s pretty suave with the ladies, though. (Okay, I 100% made that up.) Regardless, he was thrilled to be my love doctor, as is evidenced by this text message:

Step 1: Meeting someone

In order to fall in love with someone, you have to find someone to fall in love with. I go to a school with almost 50,000 students. It should be easy enough to find someone, right?

Sam’s suggestion: “Comment on Michigan’s page on ESPN that you’re looking for a date.”

I was not thrilled about this idea, because ESPN requires you to use your Facebook when commenting, meaning everyone who checked the page would see not only my comment, but also my first name, last name, and profile picture. But, what can I say, I guess I’m a fool for love.

Sam told me to add some personal characteristics, so I replied to my comment, “I’m a mediocre height, usually wear my hair in a bun, vegan.” Unfortunately, even this didn’t do the trick. Nobody replied to my comment to ask me out. Nobody even liked it. And we ended up losing to Penn State. Absolute heartbreaker, all around.

Step 2: Learn to play 2K

Obviously, the second step in every relationship (after meeting the boy) is playing 2K with them. If you didn’t know that, then that’s probably the cause of all your relationship problems. Sam made it clear: “Learn how to play 2K and FIFA and throw around a few names and act like you know what you’re talking about. Never call it NBA 2K. That’s weird. It’s just 2K.”

I took this deep advice to heart, and decided to call upon my closest friends for help. “I need someone to teach me how to play 2K for an article,” I said in our Snapchat group chat. I should have known better. The trash talking ensued immediately. Who’s the best at 2K? Who’s the most worthy of teaching me?

The trash talking continued for what felt like days, and nobody ever did teach me how to play 2K. Thanks, boys. You’re the reason I’m single.

Step 3: Go on a date

Because of the failure of the first two steps, when Sam gave me advice for an actual date, I didn’t have anyone who I could actually treat to a date night. Luckily, though, I have four wonderful roommates. So, naturally, I texted my roomie group message and I asked if anyone wanted to eat a romantic candlelight dinner with me. Lili hit me with the “I think you’re a nice girl but I’m really not looking for anything right now.” Allison just said, “Please don’t light all the candles because with the number of candles we have, that will look more like a cult ritual than a romantic dinner.” But Isabella and Shannon were in. I had my dates. I quickly had Sam text me all the details of what I needed for an A+ date night.

Food: On my way home Monday night (date night!), I stopped to pick up our food. Unfortunately, upon looking at my bank account balance, I realized that pizza would not be an option (note to self: can I even afford a relationship??). I did, however, like his suggestion of chips and guac. I even made a stop at Chipotle to pick them up.

The reactions to the chips and guac were okay:

Isabella: I really like these appetizers.
Me: Those aren’t appetizers. Those are the meal.
Shannon: Hannah, you need to remember that you’re trying to wow two girls who just got out of very serious relationships.
Isabella: And, honestly, it’s working.

Sam also said to put some fruit on the table, but we didn’t have any fruit, so I poured them some mango fruit punch. This was an absolute hit until they realized it wasn’t white wine (at which point they asked, “Wait, we’re drinking chasers?”).

Music: I stuck with Justin Bieber’s Christmas music. This was definitely a solid choice, and I really impressed them with my ability to rap every line of the Busta Rhymes part from “Drummer Boy.” 10/10 will remember to do that next time I’m on a date (IF and ONLY IF I’m okay with the guy falling in love with me on the spot).

Conversation: Sam gave me a list of questions to ask so that I would seem cool but also get to learn a lot about who my dates are as people.

Me: Who’s gonna make it to the NBA finals?
Shannon: Wait...that’s basketball, right?
Me: Yes.
Shannon: Okay, just wanted to make sure it wasn’t baseball. What’s baseball again? PGA?
Me: No, PGA’s golf. Baseball is the MLB.
Isabella: Modern Languages Building?
Shannon: No, baseball.
Isabella: Oh, well, anyway, the winner at basketball is gonna be LeBron James.

Clearly this conversation starter wasn’t the smartest move on Sam’s part. But then again, if I were dating a guy, maybe it would have worked out a little better. Maybe he had assumed I wasn’t going to be dating my roomies.

Me: Is Jordan the GOAT?
Isabella: Jordan who?
Shannon: Yeah, is he that quarterback you told me about?
Me: No, Michael Jordan.
Shannon: Oh. No, Michael Jordan’s not the GOAT. Michael Phelps is.

0 for 2 on the questions, Sam. Luckily, third time’s the charm.

“Is Drake better than Kanye?” I asked. This one stirred some real conversation. Shannon said that you have to respect Kanye because he’s built such an empire, but Isabella argued that Drake is more talented. The conversation continued for some time. Make a note of that one. Drake versus Kanye is a solid conversation starter.

Overall, here is my summary of taking dating advice from my brother: I am still single and I still don’t know how to play 2K. To any of my ladies out there who are looking for that ~special someone~ I highly recommend that you do not consult your 15-year-older brother. Might I suggest Bumble? You’ll thank me later.

President Trump Didn't Invite Congressional Democrats or Progressive Jewish Activists to the White House Hanukkah Party

Normally the holidays would be a time to put differences aside and celebrate the joy of the season, but President Donald Trump seems to think differently. According to the New York TimesTrump did not invite Democratic members of Congress or Reform Jewish leaders and progressive Jewish activists who have previously disagreed with him on issues to the annual holiday celebration. The snub became evident at the party on Thursday, soon after Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a political move that appeals more to those of Jewish faith.

Although the Jewish public figures not invited to the Hanukkah celebration may disagree, Jews who support Trump were reportedly happy to commemorate this momentous time in Israel's history at the White House party. In addition to the formal event, the Republican Jewish Coalition also hosted an after party at the Trump International Hotel.

"Hanukkah is a time for Jewish families around the world to celebrate the miracles of the past and the promises of the future," Trump said at the initial party. "We are proud to stand with the people of Israel and renew our enduring bond."

While Lee Zeldin and David Kustoff, Congress's two Jewish Republicans, attended the White House bash, no Jewish Democrats received invites. The cut to the guest list was definitely noticeable—only 300 people were invited, while the White House normally hosts 1700 guests over the course of two Hanukkah parties.

"It's deeply unfortunate that the White House Hanukkah Party—a bipartisan event bringing together Jewish and non-Jewish leaders alike to celebrate the Festival of Lights since 2001—has turned into a partisan affair under this administration," said Representative Nita Lowey of New York.

Snubbed Jewish leaders include religious and political figures who have publicly criticized Trump in the past. Rabbi Rick Jacobs, the president of the Union for Reform Judaism, blasted him for his response to the Charlottesville white supremacist march, while the progressive pro-Israel group J Street was likely frowned upon for its strong support of President Barack Obama's nuclear deal with Iran.

"I am not aware of the political affiliation of any of the guests, but I do know that this year was meant to be more personal than political," said First Lady spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham, who works with Melania Trump's office to supervise White House party planning.

Morton Klein, the president of the Zionist Organization of America and an invited guest, didn't bother acting blase about excluded people. "He did not invite people who have been hostile to him," he said of Trump.

Well, happy holidays, indeed.

HC Wake-Up Call: Follow-Up Emails Related to Trump Jr.'s Meeting With Russians Were Discovered, Republican Rep. Resigns After Sexual Harassment Accusations & Krispy Kreme Donut Beer Is Now a Thing

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

Follow-Up Emails Show Previously Undisclosed Link Between Trump Jr. and Russians After Their Trump Tower Meeting

CNN reports that the publicist who arranged Donald Trump Jr.'s 2016 meeting with the Russians sent more emails to a Russian and a member of President Trump's team later in the summer. Publicist Rob Goldstone sent out emails that were discovered by congressional investigators, but the messages were never sent directly to Trump Jr.

While Trump Jr. has claimed that the meeting focused on Russian adoption once it was clear that the Russian lawyer he met had no information on Hillary Clinton, a new email shows that Goldstone encouraged then senior aide Dan Scavino to create a page for the elder Trump on a Russian social networking site. The suggestion was reportedly pitched by Goldstone at the end of the Trump Tower meeting as a "cute marketing idea."

A Republican Rep. Will Resign After Sexual Harassment Claims

Following the news that the House Ethics Committee would investigate sexual harassment claims made against him, Arizona Republican Rep. Trent Franks will resign from Congress on Jan. 31, CNN says. Franks admitted that he discussed "fertility issues and surrogacy" with two female staffers and made employees feel uncomfortable, but said he never "physically intimidated, coerced, or had, or attempted to have, any sexual contact with any member of my congressional staff."

"In the midst of this current cultural and media climate, I am deeply convinced I would be unable to complete a fair House Ethics investigation before distorted and sensationalized versions of this story would put me, my family, my staff and my noble colleagues in the House of Representatives through hyperbolized public excoriation," he said in a statement.

While Franks' resignation shortly follows those of Reps. Al Franken and John Conyers, he is the first Republican in recent months to announce his stepping down.

Krispy Kreme Flavor Comes in a New Beer

Nothing says "guilty pleasure" like a Krispy Kreme donut, and now that sinful delight will be paired with another potential vice: beer. Delish reports that two Florida breweries have partnered to produce a Russian imperial stout brewed with Krispy Kreme donuts. This is a combo I never knew I needed, but it sounds cool! Breweries Hidden Springs and Arkane Aleworks brewed one batch with two dozen glazed donuts and another with two dozen cream-filled ones. The goal was to create a "roasty, chocolatey" flavor in the beer, which will be available via draft and bottles at Hidden Springs in January.

What to look out for...

I don't know about you, but I've been looking forward to a Friday night binge of Season 2 of The Crown all week. The historical drama returns to Netflix with the new season today, and given the royals'recent exciting news, I could definitely go for even more exploration of this iconic family. If you need me, I'll be watching the show in my bed until Monday morning.

5 Reasons Why It's Acceptable To Job Hop In Your 20s

The term “job hopping” typically has negative associations. The concept of bouncing from job to job is sometimes linked to instability, lack of direction and an inability to hold a job for a decent period of time. It also plays into negative stereotypes about millennials, with people claiming that young workers don’t have company loyalty and are too indecisive when it comes to choosing a career path.

Don’t let these sentiments get in the way of your decision-making. There are some truly beneficial reasons to job-hop, and your 20s are as perfect a time as ever to take the plunge.

1. You’re not beholden to anyone else financially

For many of you, your first couple of years post-grad doesn’t consist of marriage and having kids. While these might be life goals of yours later on, it’s absolutely acceptable to focus on your career in the early part of this decade.

Since you don’t have a family or spouse to help support, your salary doesn’t need to be your highest priority right now, with the exception of obvious burdens like student loans. Take this time to try out different jobs and find what you’re passionate about. When that time comes that you have a family, you might have more pressure to stay in your same job for a couple years to reap the financial benefits.

While you're still just supporting yourself, you also want to make sure that your current salary works for you and your needs. If you've been at the same job for a year and are severely underpaid or can't pay student loans, but your employer won't adjust your salary, that is a justifiable reason to move on to another job.

2. You want to gain new skills to boost your resume

Depending on the industry, you might find that switching from one company to another allows you to gain different experiences than you might have had staying in the same job for a couple years.

Sydnee Lyons, a second-year graduate student at Florida Atlantic University, reflects on how job-hopping in between undergrad and grad school helped her to grow. “I collected a number of very different skills and experienced that I still rely on now in my grad program,” she says. “Job hopping helped me understand so much more of the real world than I would have had at one single job.”

By starting fresh at a different company, your tasks might change based on your new team’s needs and goals, which will only help you grow and gain a better perspective of how you fit into the working world as a post-grad.

In some cases, it's not a choice to want to get more experience elsewhere, but rather a necessity in order to move up. Alexandra Blessing, a PR professional, agrees. "The job market is complicated," she says. "Frankly, college grads apparently aren't even experienced enough for entry-level positions because most employers consider 'entry level' employees to have 1-3 years of professional experience after college graduation."

3. You’re having a career crisis

By the same token, job-hopping can allow you to aim closer towards your goals while figuring out what it is that you want to pursue.

No one has everything figured out in their 20s when it comes to their career. There is no harm in bouncing around a bit if it means moving one step closer towards what makes you happy. Like with college internships, you’ll find what makes you tick and what you despise with each role—these lessons will only help you succeed later on.

Shira Kipnees, a teacher who graduated in 2015, believes that an industry change early on is normal because it's difficult to understand the working world unless you're fully immersed in it. "When you graduate college, you really have no idea what the real world is like. Once you've spent some time seeing what makes you happy and what doesn't, what you're good at and what you're not, you can decide a career."

As long as each job-related decision you make is purposeful and strategic, it’s normal to take some time in your 20s to “find yourself” and take risks. If your first job is unrelated to your newly identified passion, stick it out for a year if possible to make the role appear more legitimate and purposeful on your resume.

4. Your health is at risk as a result of unhappiness in current role

You need to listen to yourself and fulfill your needs. Your health precedes any other aspect of your life, after all!

If you find that your current job is causing anxiety, feelings of depression or affecting your sleep, perhaps it’s time to rethink your current situation. It’s one thing to dislike your job, but it’s another to be miserable to the point where you’re dragging yourself out of bed each morning.

Even if you haven’t been at your company for a full year, it’s important to assess the situation and make decisions that will positively impact your overall well being—even if that means jumping ship. Many people are unhappy at work, which isn't an excuse in itself to jump, but if the negatives overtake the positives to a large degree, then either stick it out while applying for other jobs or quit if it is truly unbearable to stay.

5. You’re looking for a different work environment

Let’s say that your first job is working for Fortune 500 company where you’re a small fish in a big pond. You may find yourself having an itch to work with a smaller team and take on more responsibility. Why not try a start-up?

You’ll never know whether you like a certain work culture or environment unless you dive right in and make the jump. Your surroundings can, in many cases, make as much of an impact on your career satisfaction as the type of work you’re a part of.

The people you’re surrounded by and a company’s culture will vary, so by job hopping you will expose yourself to different opportunities that allow you the time to find a place where your values and there’s are closely aligned.

Contrary to how it is sometimes perceived in our society, job-hopping is not always a bad thing. Rather, appreciate the time you have in your 20s to explore, get your feet wet with different tasks and absorb everything you can while you’re still young. You only live once, so why stay in the same role forever when you can expand your horizons?

Ashley Graham Just Had an Unretouched, Hot AF Lingerie Shoot

Ashley Graham is truly an amazing woman. As probably the most famous curvy model right now (fact: she hates the term “plus size”), she has been on countless covers promoting body positivity. In a recent shoot with Vogue Italia, the model posed for some lingerie pictures and posted them on Instagram completely unedited, besides some cool filters, of course. Unretouched, meaning no smoothing out stretch marks or photoshopping skinnier thighs. Now that's badass.

It's obvious that Graham wants the world to know that she is comfortable embracing what some would consider "flaws," and that everyone else should be too! In her memoir A New Model, Graham recounts a time where she almost gave up her dreams of being a model. Her mother advised her, “It doesn’t matter what you think about your body, because your body is supposed to change somebody’s life.”

Considering that Graham has now changed the game in both the modeling industry and the body positivity community, it's obvious that it's not just her body––it's her attitude too.

Not only are these shots amazing, but they remind everyone that Graham is not going to compromise herself for anyone. Not even Vogue!

Try to Contain Your Excitement, But Fenty Beauty Might Be Releasing a Dark Blue Lipstick

Since Fenty Beauty launched this fall, Rihanna has been killing it, releasing more products in the last season than most brands do in a year. After a successful initial line, holiday collection and iconic Stunna Lip Paint, the cosmetic brand reminds us that 2017 isn’t over yet with the possible release of yet another gorge product.

Rihanna teased fans with an Instagram story of a black-blue bullet lipstick. All we know so far is this: It's going to be a traditional bullet lipstick formula as opposed to the liquid formula we have already seen from the brand. The Fenty Beauty logo is embossed on the top of the product, and we're so excited for all the potential ways to Instagram this pretty little tube.

While Rihanna hasn’t even swatched the shade yet, fans are speculating that she wore the shade in this zoomed-out Instagram photo:

sturdy.

This isn’t the first time that the singer has been seen sporting black lipstick. After wearing the shade on numerous occasions, it's obvious that she’s a fan of dark, moody colors.

Taking inspiration from Rihanna, you can see that dark lipstick can be worn in ways that don’t scream “high school goth.” If Riri has inspired you to try out this bold lipstick, but you can’t wait for the Fenty launch, try NYX's In Your Element Lipstick or Kat Von D's Studded Kiss Lipstick for now. Hopefully she'll add this blackish-blue shade to the existing collection of lipsticks and glosses soon!
